i went to western plains zoo out at dubbo in nsw years ago and that was amazing. huge in area each type of animal has its own enclosure no fences surrounded by moats.
First time I took the fam to Aussie Zoo Steve was riding a quad bike around, I called out to him he should be wearing a helmet, he just laughed and gave a wave. Such a genuine bloke.
My first memory of Steve Irwin was in 1981. On holiday in Port Macquarie, Bob and his barefoot kid put on a free snake exhibition in a local park. Got to start somewhere.
African elephants are larger than Asian elephants, so if you think those ones were big, you should see the ones from Africa! When I was a kid, Taronga Zoo in Sydney had elephant rides just for younger kids. They had two bench seats draped over the African elephant’s back, and the elephant trainer would sit at the front and guide the elephant safely around the special track.
African elephants have never been used as beasts of burden in Africa. So it is a very weird thing for Taronga to have done. Are you sure it an African elephant and not an Indian the largest of the Asian elephants, and it's seemed huge to little you?
Best memory of Steve was him on a talk show with Rove and the host asked if he drank coffee. His reaction was "No No heck no mate, top of my head would blow off!" (Search Steve Irwin Coffee interview)
10:50 I remember when Steve started becoming known not only here in Queensland, but around the world. He was always that same, knock-about bloke from when he was young, up until his tragic encounter with the animals he loved. Oh, and as for the crowds at The Zoo? We went on a quiet day. The stadium was barely half full. It was also when the tiger exhibit was undergoing refurbishing. I enjoyed the trained Macaws and other birds. That was cool. Oh, and the Irwins weren't there, other than mumma, so that may have something to do with it.
It’s so good to see the Irwin children grow up to become successful in their own right and continue Steve’s good work. He would be so proud of them… RIP Steve.
33 years ago I had the pleasure of being in the large arena watching Steve do the Chandler role. Much smaller operation back then of course because nobody overseas had heard of him. Great to see the millions the family earns is put back into buying more land to expand the zoo as well as conservation works.
Thank you Rob and Charlie for doing this Zoo and paying so much attention to Steve's legacy. Your video here really shows just how good Aust. Zoo really is and how special it is with the lengths they go to to protect, cure and treat injured wildlife, and help promote the growth in numbers of various species which are normally threatened with extinction by various elements, either by mankind hunting them, or perhaps by reduction in habitats, etc. It was a really good video with plenty of time spent on various exhibits. So thanks again for showing this zoo off to all, and for all the useful tips in how to best spend a day there - including the cost of food which I thought was amazing (SO expensive!!!). Thanks Charlie for mentioning that. I know now to eat before hand. I'll catch up with you guys again soon. GB
From 1989 to 1993.. probably visited the croc farm a dozen times. I went to the same high school as Steve and live in Eudlo, 3 suburbs away from him. He used to take about 20 or 30 people on a personal tour of his property for an hour or two. On Monday September 4 of 2006 at about 1:30pm I got a text that gutted me. I was teaching my class of 7 year olds and it was a sad day. I haven't been to Australia Zoo since. It's always the croc farm to me.
The great thing about Australia Zoo is that, while most other zoos around the world are for the purpose of making money for rich people (what place isn't designed for that particular purpose these days??), the money you spend at Australia zoo goes into conservation - buying up vast lands for the purpose of conservation. It might be nice to know that you're exorbitant hamburger prices went towards conservation.
The day he died. I was @ a doctor’s appt and it came on the waiting room Tv. Immediate devastating sadness overcame me - I cry every time I spend a moment too long remembering him. I’ll never get over it.
Love Oz Zoo. When I was there, the Irwins weren't 😢, but it was still just so good. I was lucky enough to see the Tigers climbing the trees and swimming 😊.
when I went to the Australian Zoo it was Bindi Irwin 9th birthday celebration that The Veronicas performed at. which I loved the other Zoo I loved was Monarto Safari Park in South Australia.
12:25 That one clip always puts a tear in my eye. We should all be striving and protesting to save our animals. Without them, we won't survive. No snakes? Rodent plagues. No bees? No food. No birds? No transfer of seeds. No crocodiles or eagles? Rotting carrion everywhere, breeding disease-carrying flies.
Another brilliant vid, I'd been waiting for this one! I know you were both looking forward to visiting the zoo and that it was a big part of why you went to the sunshine coast. So I'm glad that you weren't disappointed. I also loved what you said at the end about conservation and preserving species. Not all zoos are created equal and not all do the right thing. But Aus Zoo definitely does..
When Steve passed away I was packing for a trip to America. After arriving in America I was totally shocked at how big he was over there. After finding out I’m Australian, people were stopping me to offer their condolences
There used to be several small theme parks in that area: Irwin's Reptile Park, The Tram Stop, uh a bee thing, I don't actually remember the others. Most were free entry, or very cheap at most. Then Steve Irwin got famous, and the little wildlife park expanded and bought out all the other parks to use the land. It's a shame all the history and fun things that were lost. At least the wildlife hospital still does good work there.
This is the one I've been waiting for the most. Thrilled to see it was 30 mins long but still sadly felt like 5. I will get to Australia Zoo one day but for now I'll have to be content with Taronga and Sydney Zoos and Featherdale and Symbio Wildlife Parks as they are the easiest for me to visit. Great job once again Rob and Charlie. #ripsteve

Melbourne is the best everything according to them sports capital of the world best this best that the best thing to come out of Melbourne is the hume highway
No its not the best at all. Taronga Park Zoo in Sydney is far better with much more consideration for the animals and enclosures. Australia zoo has a high turnover of staff and constantly advertise for new employees. They also do not support local businesses, sourcing from China instead. Australian - No, are American. Well the world revolves around making money so if it's a method of making money to be able to do what they want to achieve then can you really blame them
@@CharlieandRob There are many other ways to make money in this world and I doubt those two kids are both so passionate about wildlife, they were guilted into it by their mother and didn't have a choice. If both or even one of those kids left Terri wouldn't have her goldmine that she doesn't deserve.
If they need to use their dead fathers/husbands image to make money then I don't know how they sleep at night. I have never seen someone as obviously fake nice as Bindi Irwin.
Lol. No.
$50 gosh and not the most you paid for that!
We just found out Robert wouldn't have been there as he is the new host of I'm a Celebrity get me out of here.
Yea Robert was the main one we wanted to see!

" Is Australia Zoo the Best in the World? " NO IT'S NOT , now that saved me 30 Minutes not having to watch this VIDEO
You could just watch the video anyway 😉
@@CharlieandRob Very good point .
At $250 for two pensioners just to get in ……
Well it didn't cost us anywhere near that
Nope..
No its not the best at all. Taronga Park Zoo in Sydney is far better with much more consideration for the animals and enclosures. Australia zoo has a high turnover of staff and constantly advertise for new employees. They also do not support local businesses, sourcing from China instead. Australian - No, are American. Royalty - No.
Wow you live up to your name dont you.
WANT TO SEE THE ANIMALS=====NOT YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's a vlog. It even says it in the title.
Never a fan of Steve Irwin.
Why not
🤮🤮🤮
Good afternoon from PAPUA NEW GUINEA
GB
Our pleasure. Glad you enjoyed 🙂
