idk if id say underrated. He is very well respected in the drumming community, even the people that don't listen to this genre.

Dave Garofolo He's a really great and tight drummer but not really in the top 3 or anything. His technique is pretty bad sometimes and he has admitted that even himself (you can see that on his blast beats and on the double bass sometimes). No disrespect or anything, I love August Burns Red and I love Matt. I just tend to look up to drummers who are kinda more versatile and with more groove, like Gavin Harrison, Matt Halpern, Keith Carlock, Marco Minnemann, JP Bouvet and so on.

That was amazing!! Might not have been note for note, but for as crazy and technical as this song is, it was phenomenal. The drummer was spot on. The guitarist was about 80% accurate but all of it was on time and relevant.

yeah, ive seen them 4 times, and seen multiple live videos of them on youtube, including their live DVD where he sounded bad. he shortens tons of words, gases fast, misses some words, and just the overall sound isnt good

Every time I've seen them, Jake's vocals have been on point. This isn't even close to how good he sounded just last week when I saw em.

I saw them two times. They were never so bad like in this Impericon Videos. It is nothing against Impericon, i have a lot of merch from you guys. But I think the Sound Engineer is not the best, so please don't believe in this videos. Go check out ABR live, they are so much better (in particular Jakes Voice)

JacksonJangou The audio from the video lies, though. You're just hearing whats going into the mic. You're not hearing how it sounds live at the concert venue, coming out of the PA, as it naturally reverberates in the room. I've seen them live 7 times, and everytime Jake's voice sounds awesome.
I've seen them probably 6 or 7 times since 2008 or so, and I don't think he sounds bad at all live, but that might be because of the live mixing in the venue that kind of "hides" it if you will. I've always said Jake screams like shit and is gonna hurt himself eventually with the way he does his vocals. If you look at a band like Parkway Drive for instance, they sound insanely good live, but all the live videos don't make Winston sound like shit. I think Jake might be awful at vocals and we just can't tell live, or we don't care.
You can't really judge a screamers performance, or an entire band for that matter, based on a youtube video. Regardless of the quality of the video, it will never come close to the experience of watching a band like this live. I've seen them live at Warped Tour and I can assure everyone that JB's vocals are amazing and the bands overall performance is the most tight, technical, and clean I've seen. Moral of the story: Don't judge a bands preformance by a youtube video.

Yes actually. Slipknot, Stone Sour, Suicide Silence, Parkway Drive, Lamb of God and August Burns Red just to name a few. His screams were in no way varied, he cut out half of the vocals for breath which is only acceptable if someone in the band backs it up, and he could not sing in tune or rhythm.

Back in my teens (Leveler era) I watched these videos and was afraid to see ABR live. They were my favorite band and I didn't want to be let down that bad. I finally saw them on the Rescue & Restore tour and was blown away. Jake sounded amazing! These videos do not do him justice at all. I've since seen them four times, and I plan on catching them each time they come through my area.

I never meant to say you have to look a certain way. Nor did i say it affects the way they play. I'm talking about the stereotypical look or how people think they should look. And on that basis ABR doesn't look metalcore, neither does PWD, but both are great bands.
That's what makes them so badass in opinion. It shows they aren't there to make some sort of statement, they just love the music and are good friends.

I understand constructive criticism in any situation... But seriously, in this day in age, we should all be thankful we get to see these live shows for free online... In some cases it's also why bands don't make that much $$$... You used to have to get their DVDs to even get close to these stages... A live show is first of all LIVE meaning open for technical difficulties... It's the whole point of LIVE music... I dunno... Get at me... Impericon sounds amazing...
Ok... im getting tired of people saying his vocals are sloppy... matts sloppy... okay SO FREAKING WHAT YOU WOULD BE A LITTLE SLOPPY IF YOU WERE SWEATY AND OUT OF BREATH!!!! Screaming requires alot of breath, and jake is running around getting everyone pumped up. Do you seriously think hes going to sound just like he does on cd???? Come on now their August burns red just shut up and enjoy them. Plus ive heard there better live you never know it could be the person thats recording it.
Lol the weak vocals have nothing to do with who's recording the performance or who does the mix. Those people only have control over the volume level and brevity of the instruments and their sound. Face it, Jake's vox live are majorly lacking. I've seen them twice and while both shows were fantastic, he couldn't hold a note, scream, growl, whatever to save his life. And yes, Matt is extremely sloppy here, but being sweaty or out of breath is no excuse for it. These guys are professionals. Missing a note or a beat once in a song is understandable, but to not be able to keep up with the music you've written and rehearsed a thousand times is criminal. It's time to stop being a blind fanboy and realize that maybe your favorite band isn't as great as you once thought, or maybe they need to stop mailing performances in.
Btw, the only member of the band I see holding up his end when I've seen them and on all of these internet vids is JB.

Nick Turmes I see your point about Jake being sloppy, he misses basically half of the song. But i disagree with you as far as your last statement goes, Dustin and Brent are extremely constant as well in their performance, JB is not the only one.
And I have a last question for you, can you point out were Matt is extremely sloppy, I'm having a hard time finding the weak spots in his performance.
You can say there sloppy, but only if your a musician that attempts this kind of music. What they play is pretty damn good and everything is scored from their recording. Playing this live this well is truly amazing. Yes its still not perfect.. but still damn great!
You don't need to be able to do it as well as them to criticize their performance. We all know what it's supposed to sound like, so it's quite easy to tell if it's off.

You try playing at their speed, intensity and the conditions they were in and see if you struggle... I'm not sure whether you have been on stage playing drums before but I have, and boy do you sweat because of adrenaline, nerves, temperature from the lights and what your actually playing but I agree, would've been incredible!!

When I'm in the car going nuts, I can't get more than two or three songs in before my voice starts going. They do this for an hour every/every other night for weeks. Just about every screamer's voice gets wrecked on tours.
Now this is a live video, instead of the typical live intro into studio version.
I love ABR. One of the few metalcore acts I still religiously listen to. I've seen them twice, and watched nearly every live performance posted on TH-cam, and I have to say Jake is terrible live. The energy so there, but the vocals are pathetic. We can make as many excuses as we want about his vocals being tired or him being sick, but that can't be the excuse for every time. I see bands live and on TH-cam that have much more difficult vocals, and they pull it off constantly.

2:55 goes so hard I wish they’d repeat that line. They staccato pick that riff behind some vocals for a few bars before that, but when the vocals drop out and the guitars start chugging behind that lick it’s so good.

just recently took personal lessons and did vid s from ZEN etc. even in the early stages one can see the different times of OFF vs ON in their tones as their vox cords adapt. Anyone whos done this knows no one is perfect all the time and im my opinion it takes very little air push to do correctly . injury comes from overzealous pushes air to get louder , I the PA do the work
This must be at the end of one of their tours, I know that after playing a ton of songs or at the end of a tour vocals can be shotty. I've seen them live about four or five times and I've been BLOWN AWAY every time, they always performed best. He must be having a shitty vocal day or not done his warm-ups enough.

That rhythm guitar needs to be more bassy like the album. He doesn't palm mute right in my opinion

Also NEVER compare an album to a live recording lol albums you have multi layered tracks split left and right of multiple parts to give in that thicker tone. The drums and bass are what give chugs that "bassy" sound... guitar is the mid range.

well, all the members are VERY Christian and alot of their songs are about christian things, but not ALL of their songs are just about christian stuff, so they technically arent a Christian band.....hope that helps :)
