Village has more wow factor in VR, it was a fresh new experience & story, it was more interactive and some of the in-game VR cutscenes were just jaw dropping. RE4: VR mode is just fantastic though, it's the ONLY way to experience RE4R imo. Flatscreen version is just a clunky cumbersome flat graphicd' affair that fails to reinvent the wheel the gamecube original, and for me personally, doesn't live up RE2R or even RE3R.

Nice review! Glad people are liking RE4R VR Mode. Hopefully Capcom keeps making more VR content, because I would love a PSVR2 upgrade to RE7 or RE2. Personally, I'm firmly in the boat that interactivity is super important, so I was somewhat let down by RE4R's VR Mode. But I suppose it's probably best if they're optional. Like how grabbing items works, where you can press a button or use your hands. But to me, having button presses being the only option for certain things is sort of like the inverse of forced motion control sections in flat games. Options are the bread and butter of VR.

    • @VirtualResidence

Great video. Currently playing - and loving - this game on PSVR2. My biggest "wow" moment came early when the sun in front of me was making it difficult to see some detail in the village: I instinctively put my hand to my forehead to shield the sun's glare - and the effect was exactly as per reality. Just sensational! Maybe not a perfect VR version with all those 2D cutscenes and third person moments, but that's not a gripe: This is still a stunningly good VR game.

@@VirtualResidence I hear ya. PSVR 1 was my introduction to VR as well back in 2016. My only quibble is the lack of Sony VR titles for PSVR 2. The tech of the PSVR 2 is tailored made for hybrid games like GT 7, RE 4 and 8. Sony is sitting on a treasure vault of titles - past and present - that VR gamers are begging for them to give the Hybrid treatment too. I've heard that it most likely wont happen due to London Studios parting with Sony or something. It's such a shame, because the great white encounter is one of the most impressive VR show cases for VR as a whole, period. A 2K per eye resolution boost, and shooting for 90fps with a PS5 Pro would do wonders.

    You’ve made some great
Points. As a VR gamer I’m fully aware that whilst more interaction is fun, it can also be a little narrative breaking. I don’t think Leon Kennedy would be picking up plates and smashing them on the floor or balancing cutlery on a candle. In other words - I agree with your argument. If you were in Leon Kennedy’s boots for real you would probably only pick up the things the game allows you to pick up. It’s a fine balance but actually I think Capcom did a great job. Here’s hoping RE7 comes to PSVR2 also.

I don’t know if people aren’t purposely talking about it but I’ll say it.
With the PSVR2, it’s not going to look like a 4K clear view as it portrays when you’re streaming it. There’s a grainy image overshadowing the graphics on all games.
It’s almost like watch a movie that’s in 1080P but looking at it on an old school TV, so the picture quality isn’t rendered as high as it could be.
No one seems to be talking about this.

@VirtualResidence, no worries! You may have added an annotation, but I might have missed it as I tend to listen to TH-cam while doing other things.
Yes, the typewriter storage takes weapons and attachments, as well as first aid sprays. However, it does not take herbs.
Since first aid sprays carry over from playthrough to playthrough, you can play on standard difficulty, buy a bunch of first aid sprays for cheap, send them to storage, and then have a surplus of emergency first aid sprays in the new game plus. This is great if you're in a pinch on hardcore later and are strapped for cash (pesetas)!
I really do wish grenades could be sent to storage too.

Great review and completely agrre with your view on controls and interactivity. For me i am more into the visual aspect, enjoying games from a new perspective, i don't feel like I'm there and having to deal with the clunkiness of tgat interactivity so prevalent in many hames just ruins my expérience. Personally i yend to avoid games that don't have a quick one button press for reload and things like that. And honestly my dream would be to just be able to play flat games in VR mode with a regular control. But that's just my opinion and what i like. Borderlands and skyrim nailed it for me on psvr1 and tgats what i played most, sane here on psvr 2 the resident evils, gran turismo and nms is basically all i have bothered playing after trying a few experiences and just not being able to get in tge groove.

See I totally get what your saying, I think its perfectly reasonable for games to include controller based VR experiences and motion based.. Like i really like manual reloading, but i never have a problem with Firewall Ultra or RESI 7 on psvr1 which uses more of a flatscreen control style. IDK the VR community can be really rough on games for not being "a specific way".. I think its also why we don't see a ton of platformers or 3rd person experiences anymore, and It makes me sad because its just another undeserved genre in the market.. thank you for the comment!

    • @NeonPizza80s
      @NeonPizza80s 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I'd give it a strong 9 or nearly a 10. It SMOKES the flat screen version 10 fold. It's strange. I've been a big RE fan since the original 1996 PS1 game, but RE4R on a TV was a bit of a bore, cumbersome and a total slog(And i loved gamecube RE4 in 2003) The VR version however is outstanding and 100X more enjoyable to play.
My only nitpicks would be not being able to disable tunnel vision when crouching, the 2D cut scenes(They should of had 3D depth applied to them), and some of the stealth 'behind the villager' knife take down animations looked a bit janky at times, causing you to see through character models. Regardless, so many gamers will be missing out on this and it's such a shame.
Couldn't stand playing the flat screen version. It's too derivative, doesn't reinvent the wheel and feels like I'm going through the RE motions. It plays horrible with the analog stick, and even the gyro aiming wasn't implemented that well which makes it all the more frustrating to play when multiple villagers are surrounding you. In VR, you can take them down quicky and naturally with those 1:1 incredible motion aiming controls, and allows you to quickly zip around with your body and head to see what's going on all around you. Although, the scubidiver/blocked FOV limitations can mess you up. :P On a TV? Good luck, it's a clunky mess and makes the game more difficult, but in a bad way.
RE2 & RE3 Remake were an absolute blast to play on PS5 in high frame rate(120fps) mode, but i didn't like RE4 Remake too much. In VR it feels like a brand spanking outstanding experience though.

I wonder how the VR2 Version looks compared to the PS4 Standard Version. If that qualitylevel is surpased by VR2 - basically any PS4 Flat-Game should be possible on VR2 in terms of performance. The titles are there, they just need a VR-Mod. I know, they are already known and played - but it would be a good way to keep the VR2 in the minds of players. To push the HQ-libary of games - to keep positive news about releases going.

  • @NeonPizza80s
    @NeonPizza80s 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

I've been a big RE fan since the original's debut on PS1 back in 96, and i absolutely loved RE4 back on Gamecube, but the 'flat screen' version of RE4 Remake was a pretty big let down for me. Clunky cumbersome analog stick based cross hair aiming which had me constantly fighting with the controls, the Half baked sloppy gyro motion aiming implementation feels nearly broken, the entire experience is tarnished thanks to modern 4K TV OLED motion blur and inherent black crush if you're playing in SDR, and even though they did a good job at fleshing out the lore and characters, there was no 'reinventing the wheel' this time around.....
The PSVR2 version however is an entirely different ball game, an absolute beast, and a trillion times more entertaining, especially the village and castle sections. It's incredibly immersive, the motion based gun play is far more natural, intuitive and so much more fun, while the stereoscopic 3D properly allows you to differentiate objects, walls(etc) from the next rather than environments looking like wallpaper on a 65" OLED TV. And because you're now IN the game, you gain a whole new appreciation for the environments, which you'll stop every now and then just gawk at, just the little details that you'd normally miss out on with the flat screen version. FS version has zero wow factor, that's reserved for VR mode.
I'd give the Flat screen version a 5/10, and the VR version a solid 9. Like the original GCN RE4, RE4R looses a bit of steam once you make it to the island. The castle imo, always felt like it should of been the final location. I also felt like the Scope/zoomed in aiming with the rifle and machine gun felt too jittery and sensitive, didn't like the forced tunnel vision effect 'when crouching', the 2D cut scenes should of had stereoscopic 3D and the Jet Ski Motion tilt controls were pretty awful during the grand finale. Yet cruising around in that boat during the village's cave section was an absolute hoot. You really start to lose all appreciation for the flatscreen version when you play it in VR.
Mind boggling how IGN slapped VR mode with an 8, but the 'going through the motions' clunky flat screen version gets a 10.
The VR version truly makes you feel like you're partaking in something special, it felt like an adventure, where as the flatscreen version just felt like another video game.

Some of Village's VR cutscenes were just jaw dropping, the entire experience felt seamless, environments were far more interactive, it had more 3D pop(Lycan's felt like they were right up in your face etc etc, yet in RE4R the 3D effect seems slightly toned down) and what made it all the more special is that it was a NEW entry in the series, and nobody knew where the story was heading. Loved the cast of enemies and the larger than life theatrical performances. It was like Resident Evil had a baby with Guilmero Del toro. :P
RE4R is more monotone and drab, and we all know what ultimately happens in the end. But the gun play mechanics and knife parrying are an absolute blast. It's incredibly fun! and probably IS the best looking VR game to date.

Never fully understood the vr immersion thing falling solely on the devs. It's not really the devs job to immerse you in their world. Sure, they can try to make immersion as frictionless as possible. I get it, cutscenes where control is taken away from the player suck and manipulating every virtual object is amazing and does indeed go a long way in aiding immersion. But ultimately its up to the player to use their imagination to play the role and immerse themselves. We have to make some concessions about these kinds of things if we want epic adventures in vr. There's already so many variables to consider in a flat game let alone including all the many variables certain vr features create as well.
Lil bit jealous of the psvr2 owners getting RE8 and RE4R.
RE7 in vr with motion controls would be incredible (heard Preydogs mod is great, though it requires a solid pc to run). Would be a dream (nightmare?) if RE7 came to psvr2 and quest3

When you’re practicing, everything is cool, heck you might even show off how great your reload skills are.
When the heat is on and you have like 8 enemies chasing you on professional and you run out of ammo, all of that training will go out the window as you scramble and forget how to reload lmao 🤣.
Reminds me of my early days in the military and we had to do combat training with sim rounds and people shooting at you. You forget the easiest stuff under pressure lol

Good video but the background music gets annoying at times.

Thank you! and sorry.. I just want to explore a little further, was it the volume or just music altogether? I usually like music for the moods of my content, but i also try to mix it quite low, so any further constructive criticism only helps me thank you!

@@VirtualResidence It was just very repetitive and at times distracting. Other than that I thought the rest was good and I subscribed. Nice to come across one of the few who comprehend constructive criticism. Keep up the good work.

While Resi 4 VR is awesome at all it can´t be AAA VR per sé cos VR Version is only put ON a allready existing Resi 4 Remake with only an ADDITIONAL VR Mode in mind...see its not made for vr but it also added VR thats very good but not as interaktive as an "only" VR Resi has to be....

You should watch the rant part of my video.. In my opinion the level of interactivity doesn't make a game better or worse.. most of the time to much interactivity makes a game clunky or monotonous.

i think if u CAN interact with more objects...so if u have the option to..it imerses me more then just try to pick up the skull but well nope its static...i dont say you have to interact with everything but the pure "u can if u want to" option in your head is a nice thing...see HL Alyx...you can interact with so mutch stuff, do u have to? No but if u want u can so that makes the game more imersive and suck you a bit more into the world cos u dont feel like a doll that only can walk the lvl....@@VirtualResidence
