vd Merwe is one of 4 South African born players playing for Scotland in the world cup. England, Ireland and Japan has also South African born players in there RWC squads
How do they become eligible to play for Scotland? Is it like football where if you live in a country for like 7 years you can play. Or if Scotland is part of their heritage? Lmk cus I’m lost
Also, the reason you wont see moodie, arendse and kolbe playing for south africa at the same time very often, is because they all play winger, of which only two play on one team. So they have been rotating the three (4 actually, including mapimpi, who played against the all blacks in that game you reacted to). They are trying moodie in a dif position, so arendse and kolbe and him is technically possible now, but generally he is still a winger.
USA has a rugby team, they failed to qualify for the Rugby world cup in France 2023,but will be hosting the 2031 world cup,, so lots of development happening in the country
Van dear Merwe plays for Scotland but is South African raised and born..they have 3 South Africans in their team and iRELAND ANOTHER 3 SA players they happen to be the main scorers too!
You asked about positions so here is a VERY generalized and simplified explanation: 1-3: front row forwards. They are the power of the scrum. Usually stout strong players who aren't as mobile as other players. 4-5: locks. Tallest players. Run the line out. Usually the physical enforces on the field. 6-8: loose forwards. The more mobile players in the forwards. Protect the rucks. (This is the hardest to explain because they're so versatile and teams use them differently but I'll leave it at that). 9: scrumhalf. Passes the ball the most. Passes the ball from scrums, lineouts and rucks. 10: flyhalf. The general and rugby's version of quarterback. Facilitates the attacking plays for the backs and usually kicks for goal too but doesn't have to. Pulls the strings. 11 and 14: wings. They're the fastest players and have to be good at finishing. Usually you go for smaller quick steppers or bigger players who can run over defenders. They score the flashy tries which is why you see so many in these videos even if they're not usually the most valuable players. 12 and 13: centres. Their individual roles differ slightly, but in general they must be fast but perhaps more physical than a wing. They're the most important defenders on the field and must have a high rugby IQ to read both attacking and defensive plays. 12 will usually be bigger with a focus on gaining ground on attack. 13 is maybe smaller with quicker feet and usually seen as captain of the defense. Again: generalization. 15: fullback. Often can play wing too and some can play flyhalf because they need to be able to kick well. Must also be reliable on catching high kicks. Fullback should be a rock on defense while also being able to make the last pass in an attacking play. Often gets the most assists. Jersey numbers are linked to position and not the player which is why you'll see the same player in multiple numbers across different games. Hope that helps
And for your own interest: most people would agree that there are four teams who could win the WC this year: Ireland, Soutb Africa, France and New Zealand. Unfortunately, because of the seeding, only two of those four can make the semi finals. So two tournament favourite will go home early.

We as South African’s call Arendse “mini-cheslin” , he resembles so much of cheslin’s skills and agility. We really have a well functioning team this year and are truly geared to defend our world cup title. Be prepared for some amazing plays and tries in this RWC.
The main difference between NFL and rugby is what is expected of the player running with the ball. In NFL your goal is to hold onto the ball at all costs. In rugby you don't want to be tackled with the ball as this slows down the attack so you may pass the ball, try to run through or around your opponent, kick the ball for someone else to catch, kick the ball so you can catch it or kick for touch. If you can't do any of these things then you will hold onto the ball and be tackled. This makes it difficult for the tackler as you are not sure what will happen and often results in missed tackles.
Cheslin and Kurt-Lee will be starting on the Wings on Sunday against Scotland. It will be an Epic game, since Scotland is top 5 in the Rankings. But I cracked myself when you said We will bring the Cup home 😂😅. Lit!
Yup. USA got past Canada, then fell to Uruguay, then Chile, then finished second to Portugal on points difference in the four-team last-chance “repechage” tournament for the very last spot. Portugal got a draw with the USA Eagles on a LAST-SECOND penalty goal, which gave them the top spot ahead of the US, Hong Kong and Kenya.
And the USA is ranked 18th in the World Rugby rankings, which is still ahead of three teams that qualified: Romania (19), Namibia (21), and Chile (22). All 17 teams ahead of them are at the World Cup.
Canada at one point was becoming a solid tier 2 team. Then corruption, in-fighting, mismanagement of funding & refusing to change a failing development system ruined it.
Marika korobete is like a new weapon made today to destroy any threats coming from any angle. He put mapimpi bk on his flight bk to Africa with that left shoulder tackled in full flight. Cheslin always a threat on his left and right steps. Hey you know what? Korobete and cheslin is African product. 😅😅😅😅.
Love the content. It is possible for all three the South africans to play in one game. Cheslin in Fullback , Canan in Right wing and Kurt-Lee in Left wing. I personally think that this will be the most dangerous backline we will ever have as a South African supporter
A ball kicked out if outside your 22 and is kicked straight out, the line out is spotted from where you kicked. If it bounces first it gets spotted where it goes out. If in your 22, it gets spotted where it goes over the line. No matter what.
In rugby, the jersey numbers denote the position on the field. Nr 9 is the scrumhalf, 10 the flyhalf, 15 is the fullback, 1 to 3 are the props, 11 and 14 are the wings, 12 and 13 the centres, 6 and 7 the flanks etc

The numbers correlate to the positions so that’s why they change numbers, the starters wear 1-15 and then the bench will wear 16-23. Wingers are 11 (left wing) and 14 (right wing). Love the content by the way!
USA does have a rugby team but they didn't do well enough to qualify for the world cup... There are 4 pools of 5 teams that can make it the h rugby world cup which is equal to a total of 20 teams...
To explain the positions: There are 23 players on each team, 15 on the field and 8 subs. The 15 on the field are split between 8 fowards ( they fo the heavy lifting such as scrums, line-out, most of the rucks. Etc.) and 7 back-line players ( they do the running and kicking) Fowards are numbered 1-8 and backs 9-15 and the subs are numbered 16-23
USA do have a national team. Unfortunately they didn't qualify for this year's tournament. Covid hit USA rugby quite hard and they've played very few games in the lead-up to the qualifiers. So Unfortunately they were knocked out by Chile. You guys should find your local teams and give them some support ;) There are plenty of rugby in USA, just now well advertised.

If you kick the ball play doesnt stop no matter how many times it bounces. The other team can collect and run it back. The time only stops if the ball bounces out. Then the game resumes with a timeout. The rules regarding kicking out a more complex but, to simplify, if you kick straight out (no bounce) then the opposition have a line out in line with where the ball was kicked. So it has to bounce before going out. (There's an exception to that rule but I won't get into that now)
50 - 22. If a player kicks the ball from behind the 50 meter line and it bounces out of bounds behind the 22, the team that kicked it gets to throw the ball in at the line out.
Interesting side note to Bokkes win over Scotland: They neutralized the three South African-born players in Scotland’s team very effectively: van der Merwe hardly got his hands on the ball; Malherbe dominated Schoeman in the scrum, and Nel came in as a sub when “Shoe” left and was no more effective. Pronunciation tip: it’s approximately “fun derr MARE vuh” for van der Merwe’s last name.
Out of the field of play is like pushing the other team back up the field! They get the throw in but you have the chance to turn them over or get the ball from them in their half. The more accurate the lick down field the better! When the guys are free to run over the try line (score) they get to kick over the bar for an extra 2 points the ball is put at right angles to the try line so you try to put as close to the middle of the posts as you can 20 teams (Countries) contest for the cup
16:32 Then it's a Lineout. They'll restart basically closer to where the ball went out. His team may have possession provided that they had an advantage prior to kicking it out. Otherwise, the opponents are the ones who'll throw the ball in. Moodie is 6'3", 200 lbs.
South Africa has 4 boys in this video ...van der merwe is South African who plays for Scotland. there are many South Africans that play rugby in Europe for better contracts. Currently Scotland has 4 South Africans in their 2023 world cup team.
USA usually go to the World Cup but they lost games they should have won during the qualifier so they lost their spot to Chile this time. They'll be back. There are 4 pools at the WC of 5 teams. So 20 in total.
A line out forms where the ball goes out of bounds. Directly out of bounds results in a line out back from where the kick was taken (unless the kick was taken inside the 22 of the kicker). If the ball bounces before going out of bounds then the line out forms where the ball went over the out of bounds line. Scrums mainly form because someone knocked the ball on or gave a forward pass; and in other cases for certain free kick or ball unplayable situations. Hope that helps. Springboks to win RWC2023. Mooookie!
No, we're not in the Cup this year. First time in a long time for the USA to miss it. Historically, we're at around 15th with the men but two bankruptcies in a decade and moves like misappropriation of funds from the catastrophic injury fund armature players are required to buy make them well deserving of the drop. Thankfully the Women and 7s programs have managed to avoid such incompetency. The recent formation of an American professional league (MLR) should help put things back together. Yes, kicking for territory is possible two ways. If the kick lands in play and then goes into "touch" there will be a Line Out to put the ball back into play at that point. If the other team put the ball into your 22 you can then kick directly into "touch" and still gain the territory. In both of these cases it is the other team that will throw the ball in. If you are awarded a penalty kick you may kick directly to "touch" to gain ground and you get to throw the ball back in.
There are 20 teams in the World Cup. The USA does have a team but they failed to qualify this time. We have been in decline, falling down the rankings ladder, over the last 6 to 8 years or so. Rugby USA have recently gone bankrupt twice and were even caught misappropriating funds from the Catastrophic Injury Insurance fund paid into by and required from every armature player in the country. Thankfully our Women's and 7s programs have remained untainted by this infection.
The positions on the can change. Backline players are 9-15 and if your on the bench then you playing number woods be anything from 20 - 23. 16 - 19 those are usually occupied by forwards ohe bench 1 - 8 are the starting forward numbers in
Marika - All his tackles here are illegal and should be sent off. Player needs to wrap his arms around the player, can't shoulder charge, has to tackle.

If behind the 22 m line, the ball can bounce outside the touch line. If over the 22m line it shall the ball bounce inside before outside touch line
Srums are only if the ball goes forward in a pass or a player drops it forward. They can kick the ball and it doesn't bounce out it's play on.

USA has a Union Rugby Team and a Seven's rugby team with some super stars like Carlin Isles and Perry Baker
There's no Fiji in here. Ok
Appreciate the comment family ✊🏽
The positions on the can change. Backline players are 9-15 and if your on the bench then you playing number woods be anything from 20 - 23.
16 - 19 those are usually occupied by forwards ohe bench 1 - 8 are the starting forward numbers in
Where the ball is kick out a line out will be held and when the ball is knocked on by a player then a scrum will be held.
Let's bring it home Bokke 🎉😊
From a penalty to out of bounds its still kickers ball so you try and get it out as close to the goal as you can
They should have added Josua tuisova to this list
Marika - All his tackles here are illegal and should be sent off. Player needs to wrap his arms around the player, can't shoulder charge, has to tackle.

All the South Africans in the video are wingers part of the back three. Which is your left and right wings and the fullback. Interestingly all of them are from the beautiful province of the Western Cape with Cape Town as the main city.
You boys need to watch a full game. So much your missing.!
