    I used to ride my buddies 76 kx400 that his dad built. We were 16 and having a blast, he always wanted to ride my newer cr125 so I would take his kx400. That bike had one of the most eager motors I've ever experienced on a dirt bike. It has power everywhere almost like a 4 stroke.

    Jammin' Jimmy! Man does that bring me back! The Supercross at the Pontiac Silverdome. Fighting it out with Bob Hurricane Hannah! I think there was a controversy over Weinert using a paddle tire! Ahhh' the good ole days!

    Jimmy Weinert was a cool dude. He was our riding coach back in the day at South of the border MX facility in South Carolina. Told us he was the reason paddle tires were banned in racing.

      Why am I lad? Look up the story on Jimmy. I didn't believe him either till I actually heard it from other sources

    Cool bike. Was racing motocross in 71 at a place called Shilo in Maryland. Jimmy Weinert was there on a Maico and blew everyone away. First time ever seeing a pro in person, same for most. What a memorable day.

    Yes indeed, even as late as 1975, wide handlebars were the way to roll.🙄 How can I be so sure? Easy, I was there as a 15/16
    year old member of society heavily influenced by this relatively "new" form of motorcycling called MOTOCROSS. In retrospect, the very first US National Motocross Champion was Gary Jones in the year nineteen and seventy two(1972). Which interesting enough, is also the same year of the very first Supercross event.
    I am also 99.9 % sure that the KX came stock with the "cross bar" on the handelbar. As did most likely every other off-road motorcycle to come out of Japan.
    Thank you for allowing me to say/write what's on my mind.👍🏼 Carry on the good work Kenny.🥰

    Blew up the engine in my 250 Elsinore. My friend owned the local Kawasaki dealership and just happened to have a KX 450 engine. A little cutting and welding, what could go wrong? Nobody could beat me to the first turn, and then they didn't dare pass. The most amazing tank slappers had me all over the track. Actually won the race and then retired that bike to be a hill climber.🤣

    Oh wow! This brings back memories. I didn't have the kx 400 but I did have a 1975 kx 250 that looks almost identical to this 400. But also I'm kicking myself for letting go of....are you ready for this....a 1974 KX 450! Yes a 450! ☹️☹️

    The only thing I remember about Kawasaki Motocross in the 70s is Jimmy W and a bunch of hyped production bikes you'd hardly ever see on the local track because they didn't have what it took to win.

    I would probably freak out, if you ever found a late 70's or early 80's Kreidler Van Veen 50cc GP bike...

    • @DetroitMicroSound
      @DetroitMicroSound 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, I would take the train out to you guys, just to see it, and everything else you have goin on out there in person. (Seeing a real, non-replica, Van Veen, at the peak of their performance, in the late 70's/early 80's is a long time bucket list item! I don't ever expect to ride one, because they are pretty valuable bikes, but to see somebody fire one up, would suit me fine enough!)
