This is a comment that's been repeated but I'll answer this again. Yes, that's sort of a solution but travel mugs are either tacky plastic or lined with metal. Someone else suggested IKEA mugs with a tiny handle at the very top and they sort of look OK, and they would work, but I'll be honest - not crazy about them.
@@NoPunIncluded it would not be too difficult to carefully cut out a slot as you were mentioning. I would scribe lines where the cut was going to go and use either a brand new very sharp mini hacksaw blade and brace and just manually cut it carefully, or use a motorized dremel type cutting tool with the aluminum oxide disc cutting wheel and carefully, slowly cut down as far as ya think it needs to be. The wood would be fairly easy and use a chisel to cut out the chunk ya dont want the rest of the way but then the remaining metal piece would need to be scribed along the inside horizontally where you want the bottom of the slot to be and then depending on the type of metal i would try and carefully bend the metal at the scribe line where you want the lowest edge of the slot and the metal could be carefully broken off smooth and then would just require some filing to finish all the edges. Or if the slot doesnt need to be very deep, a larger grinder wheel (like 8 cm diameter X 1-2cm thick) could be used in a drill and a slot, carefully , slowly ground out to the depth ya need. Then just a little filing to finish smoothing. A furniture repairman should be able to do it for you i would think, if they were comfortable with doing a custom mod like that.

Sure, and that's a great solution, but that's starting from the premise of already having a table in the first place. Once you leave the land of Ikea (and even within it) furniture in general is pretty expensive, and wood furniture is typically even more expensive than that. So it depends on perspective. If you're already looking at regular boring normalman tables at around $800, you may as well look at a convertible gaming table for slightly more
@@z-beeblebrox More like for double the price. The 6p version comes in at 1300 GBP with the top and without accessories. Considering I got my IKEA table for 150 GBP and it can comfortably seat 10 people if need be and still looks almost new after 3 years of daily use, I don't think being able to pause a game in progress AND settling for a smaller table is worth 1000+ extra pounds.
@@z-beeblebrox I paid $15 for a thrift store dining table, took the top off, bought maybe $15 worth of parts to make a bottom and attach it, and used wooden scrabble tile holders to make the original top fit back on without sliding around. I've recently spent half that for a real nice 1x1.8m table with a smooth resin finish. I would love a gaming table like this and seriously considered it, but decided I don't need to cover up my games if I don't have kids so a nice flat surface is all is needed.
They make a tea/wine attachment, they show it in their kickstarter video, I make these with my tables. I've been making my own gaming tables for a couple years now, I raise the table slightly, and then add a skirt around the bottom of the table with slide through rails which will hold the leaves under the table that can be pulled out on either side as a table for manuals or laptop etc. I also move the card holder grove out from the table edge so you can see the bottom of the cards.
Im never going to buy a superduper game table such as this, but ya made it very entertaining watching you talk about it and enjoy it. I just appreciate nice woodworking as i do it for part of my business and so its interesting to see about these different tables gimmicks and features.

I've always wondered why they don't make these a rotating table instead. Like something you can flip over and have the game side down when you're dining, with a solid dining side. They could use simple latches to keep the tabled locked, and then release the latch and have the weight of the table rotate itself like meat on a spit roast. I suppose the only disadvantage is that you can't keep your games on the table across multiple days - but if you're already using it as a dining table also.....
Here in Canada, you can buy an air insulated glass with a silicone top that has a drinking hole. It's like a glass and silicone version of a medium takeaway coffee cup.
As a person looking for a coffee table replacement that we use for board gaming and that I live in the US that statement of only in Europe just crushed me.
hi Steffan, we have a few US requests in regards to Megan table. We are coming to two Us conventions, PAX Unplugged and PAX East. If you're OK with collecting your table from these conventions, then there is a possibility. We have only a limited number of tables which we can offer that way. Obviously, it will dramatically limit the shipping cost as well.
if you're in the u.s. you've got a number of other similar choices! try looking into Wyrmwood, Table of Ultimate Gaming, or BoardgameTables - all common presences at the north american board game conventions - among others. visited a former coworker in Seattle a couple years ago and would almost swear they were just unpacking this exact same table model - including the interlocking topper, accidental card rail, and removable surface.
Besides the lovely trimmings, these tables are just too damn small. For some reason I always picture trying to play Lisboa or Twilight Imperium on the table and say to myself 'nope'
Yes, but if you have a small space it's perfect. A lot of people don't have room for a big table anywhere. He mentioned all of it in the previous table video about why it had to be a certain size, and had to be able to cover the game area. Besides, if you're playing a game of TI, just grab all the tv trays around the house and set them up for your tech boards :P
I have a Jasper from board game tables dot com and it has been pretty for everything. Yes we've even played 4p Lisboa comfortably on the playing surface. The ONLY games we've had to play on the topper which unlike this table actually increases the area of the table is Heroes of Land Air and Sea because the playmat is massive. Even Rising Sun with its playmat was fine for a 5p game on the game surface. If I recall correctly that game surface size is 5'*3.5' which becomes roughly 5.5'*4'' with the topper on. For an $1100 table shipped I can't recommend it enough. The build quality is excellent and the finish on the table looks great. The ONLY knock I can make on it is it doesn't have any tech upgrades on it like the charging ports but it has rails for cupholders, extended trays etc. Honestly I don't think I could even utilize the charging ports because of where its positioned anyway.
This is exactly what I thought. It’s beautiful and everything but too small for some of my games. I suppose for the larger ones you could leave the lid on but that defeats the point....
Put a stack of coasters or a piece of foam into the cup holders to make them shallow. Problem solved, especially if you never have to worry about spilling.
Hm, I saw a table where the boards would be stored inside the table. Basically slots at the underside where you could slide them in. Not sure how well that works for people with long legs...
