I use auto white balance and Normal color 10 bit. The reason everyone seems to talk about D-log M is they are taking old camera settings and are applying it to today's amazing tech upgrades. I'm a retired portrait photographer and color is important to me. I may warm up my stuff but that's about it. This saves me tons of time. Great explanation and shooting. Have fun!
I purchased a DJI action 4. Although it would have been good in dark forest areas (due to its larger sensor) I didn’t like the quality of the footage in the daylight. So I returned it for a GoPro 11. Kind of wish I’d saved a little bit of cash now and gone for the Action 3 looking at your footage. Okay, it doesn’t have GPS like the GP11 and resolution may not go as high, but the OA3 is able to provide a wide FOV with so little distortion unlike the GP. I think the GP does go up to 148degrees but the trees seriously bend in at the edges with that angle!
Ugh yeah it's tough to find a good action camera for mountain biking. The massive distortion some gopros and insta360 have is really hard for me to watch. The footage captured by the ace pro 4 from redbull hardline looks pretty good though too
Osmo Action 5 Pro coming soon....Ive been playing with the settings a lot....where I live its pretty sunny every day...I use ND filters....resolution I use 4K/4:3 either 30 or 60 fps. Someone said you should shoot in 4:3 mode because in post you can change it 16:9 besides 4:3 is full frame mode. Gives you more options to play. White balance in manual mode 5500k. Exposure 1/200 100-400. EV -3. D-log 10M bit. FOV wide. So far that has worked for me. What I don't like is the DJI lightcut/mimo app. I never get high quality from the camera to my phone. Even my phone when filming makes better quality if I want to post to instagram stories. Now I haven't really uploaded any footage to youtube yet. But sometimes the apps make me regret buying the Osmo 4. I will try the GoPro and 360 to see....but perhaps the Action 5 will be even better. What helmet mount do you use on your full face? That is another thing I am playing with. I have open helmets and just not satisfied with the angle. It makes it look like I am floating in the air. With my full face I use a strap for now and the footage is much better. But its quite hot where I live and full face is not always necessary.
The reason the image is shakey, because the camera wont have enough frames to stabilize the image, that is why your settings are good for stabilization. The osmo action 4 at least has a bit bigger sensor than Hero 12, so it's already a bit brighter/better in low light. But same rules and similar settings work on gopro as well. "Cine-like Gamma can be used in M-mode video recording. Cine-like Gamma "D" is with gamma curve parameter making it look like a cinema (D-range is prioritized.)"
@@MTB_Corbin had to confirm since my memory isn't so good: "DJI Osmo Action 4: Image Quality. Inside the Action 4 is the marquee feature: a Type 1/1.3-inch sensor that can record video up to 4K 120p. It's more than 25% larger than the Type 1/1.7-inch sensor inside the Action 3 and larger yet compared to the Type 1/1.9-inch sensor of the GoPro Hero12." so yeah, it has bigger sensor.
I always shoot in Ultra wide unless the camera is looking at me then it's standard. All riding is Ultra wide though. No matter what camera you get, if you want a wide field of view, you'll have to deal with distortion. I like DJIs distortion much much better than insta360 and gopro though.
@@MTB_Corbin With my set up this is not a problem. Go Pro Hero 7 Black with PeauPro87 3.37mm lens, But it's wide only lens, But it looks great. Looks natural if there's distortion it's not noticeable. But no distortion with ultra wide would be superb. Peau Productions claim newer cameras have lens glued overly well that it can't be unscrewed without destroying the camera. But Hero 7 Black doesn't record in sub zero temps. But I need to upgrade. So far it's between DJI Action 4 and Hero 12. It would be interesting to see a distortion test by filming something with straight lines.
i want do the same, i have go pro 7 black,, is shaking on videos, and new go pro is expensive here in japan, and battery is issues too, some people saying magnetic mount can shake too after alot use, that is true?
@@spayrex_the ones I ordered came with the double sided tape which had a hole already in it. That was pretty helpful but regular double sided tape probably works fine too!
I ride in the woods as well. But on a dirt bike. Been messing with my settings...Have to shoot in Normal color though...Older pc and don't want to color grade. These are close to my settings.. will try them out. really good video but did you leave noise reduction and sharpness on 0?
Let me know these settings work for you and dirt biking! I’m curious about the differences. I’ll have to check on the sharpness and noise reduction… I don’t temember changing those on the camera but I do edit that stuff in post. Goal is to not make it as grainy but sometimes I fail at that lol
@@MTB_Corbin I tried these setting with color mode on normal, pov was wide. .they worked great for the conditions I was in last weekend. Really appreciate the info. th-cam.com/video/iyDcjPgvq7o/w-d-xo.html
Just video. Easier to color correct. Only want to do HDR if there’s adequate light which is tough since lighting conditions are so hard mountain biking
Your ISO setting is far to high, try to set it to 100 to 800 and you will be surprised even in dark areas or when riding from bright sunshine into a shady, dark area. The problem you have with too high iso settings is that the camera will make grainy images and those will negatively effect the stabilisation and your footage will look like blurry or shaky.
Great video. Straight up and to the point for us mountain bikers looking to set-up our DJI. Thank you so much!
I'm glad you found it helpful!

what about using a ND filter? should I change the settings from what you have?
4:16 was this in wide or super wide? It looks distorted which I don't want. I was minimal to no distortion. But yet have quite wide FOV.

Do you ride with camera upside down to get better angle?
Yeah that's the only way it works with the chin mount
If I don’t have a computer how can I change the color like you did on 3:35
Not sure, might just have to use a different color setting on the camera
You can use a phone app to edit and just turn up saturation.
Are you using action 3 or 4?
3
