6 of the Villa players from last night Tielemans - Free Kamara - Free Ramsay - Academy McGinn - £2.5m Barkley - £5m Rogers - £8m I'm not saying Villa haven't spent money, but a large part of the squad has been built without investing a fortune, smart recruitment combined with Emery improving every player he coaches. That group of players would fetch a lot more than £16m
@@mattylamm No, not at all, all of the squad are great value whatever we paid for them, given the success. But, these 6 in particular for a total of £16m is an illustration of shrewd business from the owners and fantastic coaching from Unai.
Watkins Konsa Cash Buendia Championship aswell So Emery has developed and made players grow where as arteta buys luxury players which over two years regress and he sells and bins them How many of the young talent that haven’t hit the heights under arteta
Dibu loves Villa. He's a world cup winner in part because he's a Villa player. When he couldn't get a start for Arsenal, he wasn't starting for Argentina either. He needed a regular start in a top level league to get that place in his national team and we wanted him as our uncontested first choice keeper. That was obviously a big factor in his decision to join the club. It looked for all the world that he was always going to be second choice at Arsenal, they signed at least two other keepers to be their first choice while he was there, even after successful stints covering for injuries.
Dibu Martinez is the world's best goalkeeper at the moment and it's not even close. When it gets down to nut cutting time you would want no other keeper behind you than Emi. He is the sole reason that Messi finally achieved international success with Argentina winning both the Copa America and the World Cup. He's a big time player for the biggest of occasions. Name me another keeper you'd rather have during extra time of a world cup final, you can't.
On Barkley, as a Villa fan he was a hit initially but then his performances just went downhill, quite dramatically. A lot of it was attitude, poor fitness and in leaving us he went on a personal journey and his resurgence is on him and he proved himself at Luton. Proud to have him back.
Yeah he was electric when he first come and his link up with Jack and Ollie was great. His performances dropped drastically around Christmas that season and when Jack got injured he became a passenger and not worth the £30 million that Chelsea were asking. The change of position to a deep lying playmaker was a stroke of genius. I don't know who's idea it was or even if Barkley liked it but he's phenomenal in that position. He's way over 6 foot, rarely loses the ball, has fantastic press resistance and an eye for a pass. He is incredibly intelligent when reading the game and I have yet to see him out of position since he came back. Unai Emery trusts him to do the job when Amadou is ineffective or just tactically wrong for the game in hand. I think I prefer Ross to Kamara at the moment because he has a little more to offer when keeping posession and going forward. Bouba does get caught on the ball every now and then when being pressed but Barkley is a lot more comfortable when receiving the ball from deep. Having said that I would rather have Kamara when we are under the cosh due to his defensive awareness. One thing is for sure, our squad is absolutely stacked now that everyone is fit and firing. Why can't we push for the league or win a trophy this season? The only team that I can say are head and shoulders above us are 115 FC and they are currently without their talisman Rodrygo. I feel we are on a par with Liverpool and Arsenal
Smith decided he liked his own midfielders, didn't want to buy Barkley (or use him, hence the 'infamous' bottle (bag) kick, and bought Buendia for similar money in the summer.
If he was going to, he would likely have done so. The long contract means it's weighted towards the club. Either takes big money, or he stays. Win win.
@@Davies2710we gave him the chance after everything that happened at Arsenal and helped him to develop into one of the best in the world, his loyalty to Villa is akin to Vardy and Leicester. Also, I really hope I don’t eat my words but I believe he will retire at Villa.
Its interesting to hear the criticism, time will tell how the new CL format will work out. What I am enjoying is that every game counts no redemption in a second leg.
Emi Martinez signed a new 5 year deal a couple of months ago till 2029, he's committed his future to Aston Villa cos they're on the up & he loves the club. Villa won't be dropping off,so Emi Martinez will not be leaving Villa anytime soon, we're building something special at Villa & with Unai Emery as manager who also signed up for another 5 years this summer we can achieve success moving forward & sooner rather than later.... up the fuck'in Villa!!! Emi Martinez the world's number 1...⚽💜💙💪🔥✌️🤫
For small clubs and middle teams this is way better. Brest playing Salzburg, Sulburg against Prague. Feyenoord playing Girona and Benfica. There are way more games that you can actually go for a result while keeping the excitement of playing a few top clubs.
Emi Martinez only played 15 games for Arsenal. Even including all of his loan spells to different clubs while at Arsenal, they only come to a total of 71 appearances. At Aston Villa, he has already made more than double that, with 152 appearances, so far. No doubt, that number will eventually dwarf his games for all other clubs, with Martinez already extending his Aston Villa contract (for the next 5 years) until 2029 (the same as for Unai Emery). Villa, Emi and Unai all belong together. UTV!
The same old rubbish talking points. Emery can't manage a big club. His micro management upsets the big players. The fact is he inherited a bunch of wankers from Wenger.
Regarding the League Phase over the Group Stage discussion, I actually prefer having 8 different teams to playing 3 home and away. You get 8 fresh matches which is exciting for me as a Villa fan. I think it's healthier for weaker teams too as they'll play 2 games against teams in a similar Pot to them. 10-11 should see you finish in the top 24 which every team at the beginning will have some belief of achieving which is nice too. It'll be interesting to see how it functions as we enter the final two games. I'm assuming because the position influences the prize money, we might see fewer dead-rubber games too.
its the champions league... it should be a league, like this. i think this is so much more exciting, playing 8 different teams. No group of death for anyone. no playing for a draw learning your opponent and hoping to win at home. just go and play for the win. Anything can happen. And the top European teams haven't had the best starts as of yet. Should just make it, you play everyone once, then do a play off between the top 4 or 6 or 8 or something to generate a final.
These guys never sound genuine when they talk about Villa. They just seem sound as if they would rather talk about some other team. I could be wrong but it's not the first time I've heard them talk about Villa and felt you just a little bias aren't you all...
The new CL Format will become the European League. As I see it, it will run for the entire season as midweek games alongside the Premier League, and other National Leagues.
Looks like Emery works his best with middle weight teams instead of heavyweights like PSG or Arsenal. Sevilla,Villarreal or Villa dont have big egos, but quality in wait for somebody to lift the moral.
He won a treble and quadruple at PSG and still has their highest ever ppg. I'm not saying he's their best ever manager by any stretch, but the narrative that he did a bad job there is nonsense
@davidstringer8256 You know what he means mate psg, arsenal are usually in Europe and have big budgets unlike a villa, Sevilla etc emery is suited at building up clubs better which is true
Nice to hear some Villa chat but it always comes with an undertone of slight disrespect in my opinion. Our owners are ambitious that's why they've given Unai the keys to the club and sooner or later people will realise that Aston Villa are coming for the big boys whether they like it or not. UTV
