  • From the film "Meet Joe Black", starring Anthony Hopkins (as Bill Parrish) and Brad Pitt (as Joe Black a.k.a. Death)
This is the scene in which Joe Black first learns of the phrase "death and taxes", and was quite displeased by such unflattering comparison.

Are you saved? If you died tonight would you go to heaven or hell?
The Gospel, which means the Good News is the news that God Almighty, the Creator came in the flesh as Jesus Christ to take away the sin of the world. The one God is a trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Son came and laid down his own life to save ours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for our redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him. Although God's creation was created perfect, having no death, sickness and disease, the creation became corrupted through Adam and Eve in them disobeying God. In this rebellion the creation became fallen through the curse of sin and mankind became separated from God. This world is fallen, but God offers reconciliation to him through his provision at the cross. Ultimately God will restore his creation to perfection when he returns but those that who reject his offer of redemption will remain condemned by their sins and go to hell.
      1 Timothy 3:16 KJV
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: GOD WAS MANIFEST IN THE FLESH, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
      John 1:1,14 KJV
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and THE WORD WAS GOD. [14] And THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH, and dwelt among us,
      1 John 3:8 KJV
He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
      Hebrews 2:14-16 KJV
Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; [15] And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. [16] For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.
      Isaiah 9:6 KJV
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty GOD, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

...what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: [9] Not of works, lest any man should boast.
      1 John 1:8-10 KJV
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. [9] If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. [10] If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

I like how "Joe" acts almost supernatural. Joe is human but he is still death, still immortal, still beyond the physical. Joe is sitting at the conference table and while saying almost nothing but a request for tea and cookies the audience can see Joe sees Drew as small, miniscule, transparent. In some ways Joe doesnt understand humans yet he knows all about them. He knows their lives almost better than they do. We don't know how much Joe knows but we do know that he is operating from a level of perception far beyong we physical humans. The dialogue is ordinary, but the emotional and spiritual subtext of the exchange is fascinating. The acting is done very well. Ive probably watched MJB 100x qne its still captivating

Like that whole into the Spider verse movie why does it suddenly seem like Miles Morales is moving now fluidly? It's because in his spiderman coustume he's going 16 frames then 24 frames then 48 frames to in the climax 60 frames when the other Spidermans are still doing 48.
Like it isn't slow mo exactly or that ridiculous but what your eye sees is him being clumsy... And the other spiders being more fluid and unless you know animation you wouldn't recognize that's why and it's obviously intentional.

Simple, yet memorable.

Watching and dissecting this film, I wonder why it didn’t get better reviews. At first I wondered if death has been around for a millennium, why does he seem so childlike and awkward. I believe he has been around that long, but as death, an all powerful, other worldly entity and now experiencing his existence as a mortal being, with all its flaws, and fragility. I think I’m starting to appreciate how good this movie actually is. And it helps that Claire Forlani is so beautiful!

      @antourte1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The biggest flaw is Claire Forlani is beautiful but that's all they seemed to be relying on for her character. There isn't really much there when it comes to the romance. Every other angle in the movie has actual compelling drama or comedy to it, but the romance story is just "these two are pretty and cute together", because Forlani is not well-developed and Pitt is, well, not actually playing a human person.
Anyway I still love the film but I could see why that hole in the writing would lead to poor reviews for what is billed as a romance.

Interesting (and great!) observation of body language there. I believe you are totally correct, because even though I can imagine Drew needing to be standing when his boss arrives (in "theory" of a good padewan that has true respect for his master), he still maintains a standing position, thus becoming dominant posture after both Bill and Joe have seated. Also Interesting to note, the most dangerous person in the room just wants to have a nice cup of milk and cookies, and I don't think he feels Drew's attitude until he comments about how he provided the milk for Joe. At which point Joe gets a (oh, you wanna be like that huh) look, that makes me as the spectator feel like I need to start praying for Drew's soul. :)

I'd like to share my humble opinions for the sake of this great movie, the acting in it, and the story. Being ashamed may be an initial thought; but consider this: If death came to take you, and he's just walking around in someone else's body, being nice to you and seeming to help; a being that has access to everyone's mind, because he has to know when (and where) to "get" them. It would be such an odd feeling being in the presence of death, I would imagine, that being ashamed of anything death caused or did, might be an emotion that would be overlooked in the moment for other "surreal" ones. Like, exactly what Bill did. He was like....ok we're done. bye yall, come on Joe....Joe, come on right now. :)
