I LOVE my local library so much! They have an annual subscription which is £5 and with that you can take out up to 20 books a time, and you get free unlimited holds from all the libraries in the area. For a fiver!! 🤯 it’s also really modern and comfy so it’s really nice just to hang out with my laptop and Costa 😊 it’s definitely my happy place

I worked in a public library for 20 years, and I still go to the library once a week. I place lots of holds (there is no fee for holds). I usually have at least 20 or 30 books out at a time, but of course I can't read them all! We can renew four times if there are no holds on the book

The library is my happy place! Go every week! Reserves are free. 15 books at one time. Loans are for four weeks, and we can renew four times. If there are a few reserves, can can renew for a week. No fines since covid.
I hardly buy books anymore, only ones that the library dont have. Even if i see a book i would like to read in a charity shop, i check my library app first.
It worries me when i hear libraries are closing - please keep using your local libraries

It’s always hard to pick between books but especially library ones with all the pressure of return dates. These all look really good.
The Secrets of Hartwood Hall is honestly such a great book and genuinely think you will love it. Perfect for your DDM May thingy too.
I hope you enjoy every that you get to 😊

Ducks was a great but difficult to read graphic memoir. It won the Canada Reads book in 2023. The author’s experiences as a female working in the oil sands a place that employs 95% men is both shocking yet not surprising. Shines a light on an industry/company that needs to take better care of the women that they employ.

I use my local Library that is only about 5 minutes away from me . I do not have to pay anything to put a book on Hold. I also have a County Library that I have used in the past but I have to pay 50.00 per year to use the County Library. I have not paid this year yet.
Right now I am reading my own books.
Checking out 19 books from the Library all at once almost is a lot of books.
The most I have checked out at one time from my local Library is 7 Books.
I love going to the Library ❤️🔰❤️
    Take Care & Happy Reading

I use the library loads. It's just gone up to 90p a reservation here and the late fees are high too. While I understand that it helps with running costs I do think it's quite a lot. Particularly when other counties charge nothing.

Our library only allows a 2 week borrow with no renewal, unless it's an audiobook or ebook through Libby. I'm always jealous of your libraries Lauren.

  • @kimswhims8435

Ducks is excellent, it's the only one of your stack I've read.
I'm also ambivalent about Soldier, Sailor. It's going to have to win the Women's Prize before I even think of borrowing it. Still, It does seem very popular.
I've got about 12 books out from the library at the moment, I tend to read almost exclusively from the library, despite the huge number of books on my shelves.
Graphic novels are great to borrow, expensive to buy and I usually only read them once. I've got a couple of new releases, a couple of non-fiction books, a poetry collection and the rest are novels. Love the library 🙂

Love going to the library! I take my girls every few weeks since they were toddlers. And I always get books out too. I do a mix of library and kindle and charity shop for my reading. I had to return Soldier Sailor before I’d started it so I’ve reserved that again. I’ve got Ordinary Human Failings on kindle and really enjoying it!

The library is free and if the book is on the shelf, it can be booked out for free. However if the book is not at that library they can get it in for you from another library if it’s local it’s often free, but if it’s more than a couple of miles it can cost £1 to get it transferred, or if a book is already on loan or new and not in yet and you want to reserve it so that once it’s returned they mark it for you that can cost as well it’s only 0.50p at my library.

I use my library but only borrowbox for online ebooks so I don't have to worry about getting to the library. If you have a kobo you can download the library ebooks to that using a laptop and cable so don't have to read them on a bright tablet screen which gives me a headache.

I find it funny that you have to pay to bring in your books at your library. In Canada, it's free to put books on hold and to check them out. At my local library, we can sign out 100 books, put 100 on hold at any given time, and we have no late fees. I wouldn't be able to afford to get any books from the library if I had to pay for my library check outs, lol.

Megan Nolan is a fantastic book, but the blurb lies. It's not a crime book. I am salty that it didn't make the shortlist it was one of the best books I've read this year. The library system I have access to is shit, basically. Most reservations are months in advance.
