This is an example of teaching at it's finest! A person learning to draw doesn't need to only see.."this is how it's done!" We need to know the why's, and what the thought process is. I love how you give ideas, to "nudge" the brain through the process. For this - I thank you soooooo much! :)
Sketched two of them and gifted it to my mother for her birthday because she really loves birds. She was super happy and impressed. Great work man! Thanks!!
i just bought a bunch of fine liners and a sketch book because of you! Doing some pretty good ones so far! Thanks for the inspiration. Love your style... keep those vids up! Greetings from Germany
I like how you explain things by visually representing them, i've always thought of drawing as really intimidating and overwhelming, that is until i discovered your channel. -thanks
keep up the great work Alphonso- i am a serious youtube art vid junkie but i think you have some of the best vids out there because of their breadth and clarity
Your teaching skills are off the charts amazing. I have been trying to draw for years and now it feels fun that I have had such good instruction. Thank you!
Can you do a step by step tutorial on how to draw birds? For example, start with the basic forms and work upward. I would REALLY appreciate that. Keep being an excellent artist
Thank you for your inspirational videos. Particularly enjoy all animal, birds, eyes and fur references. I have learnt so much from your tutorials and love your book! You are so right, just draw every day and I take my sketchbooks everywhere with me now. Keep up the great work, thanks from Australia!
A tip when drawing birds; passerines have three toes in the front and one in the back, all birds in the parrot family have two in front and two in back.
You’re an amazing talent! Thank you SO much for sharing it with us. I’m learning so much from you. I enjoy the way you explain and break it down. Please keep them coming!
Hi Alphonso! Your ink-pen tutorials are the best! Could you maybe consider re-doing some of your old videos like this one and do better quality one and more detailed explanation of the strokes you used? Thank youuu, best!
Hi Alphonso! Your videos are just great, and they got me drawing so quickly!!! It's quite unbelievable! I've got a suggestion to make however: what about posting some videos on how to get your pencil sketches done? I find it that it's a minor problem when trying to follow your videos: the pencil sketches are already done, and you jump straight into the pen stage. But for me, who is just learning how to draw, even sketching on pencil is a struggle :D It would be cool to get one first minute or so of the video on how to sketch the subject we'll be about to draw :) Thanks again for you work! Love it!! Edla
Love your sketching Alphonso and the way you come across is very helpful to those of us trying out what you are doing! I am wondering how you differentiate the "value" from the straight up dark and light "colors" in the bird? I have a bird black on the top and wings but orange on the breast. How can I use the lines to present the bird with both?
Hi thanks so much. You can think of the orange part as a gray. The lightness or darkness of the gray depends on the value of the orange in contrast with the black. So a layer of generously spaced lines should enough to convey a sense of gray
This was perfect. Thank you so much for posting, I found you today and subscribed within a minute of the first video. Awesome tutorial! As for music, I love it the way it is, peaceful and beautiful.
Awesome drawings! Its these types of videos that are so good, PEN & INK DRAWINGS! If you dedicated your channel to the pen and ink lessons, and timelapses i think your channel would really get noticed. Keep up the great work, I hope to see more pen and ink work in the future!
I'm working on a drawing of my Pete cockatiel and everything is fine until I get to the feather textures, the wings and tail is fine, but how do I show the short head feathers and the belly, I have tried doing the small hatching lines to indicate that it's short but I don't have enough room to make it look natural
Alphonso... I am stuck on making nests.... Like weaver bird's nest by pen... I am not understanding how to go about it at all... Looking for your guidance as a tutorial

Don't add music -it's disconcerting,I am concentrating on drawing and your strokes Thank You
please upload a video of how to draw birds outline..........because shading is no use till we did not know how to make the base of a drawing....the base in this video is how to draw the birds........but anyway the shading is awesome.....it is looking like the real furs and feathers of the bird......is it compulsory to use fine liners only....cannot we make it with ball point pen.........
Actually not "how to DRAW a bird" but "how to copy on trace paper someone elses bird and make it look like your own" . My daughter (5th grade) do this at school. Man, you can draw so so good! Why you post such trace paper scams? Sometimes I dont understand you.

Hi, do you have a website where we could get the line drawings please?
I'm working on a drawing of my Pete cockatiel and everything is fine until I get to the feather textures, the wings and tail is fine, but how do I show the short head feathers and the belly, I have tried doing the small hatching lines to indicate that it's short but I don't have enough room to make it look natural
And head is supposed to look lighter m like white or yellow
Omygoodness I am liking your pen!! It's marvelous

Diego Lage de Oliveira :-) thanks. no worries
Amazing as always!
But what kind of texture do I do if I want to make a black bird? Like a raven or crow?
Darken most part entirely black, and only show highlight part
Fantastic lesson! Thank you so much.

Jedidiah Avelino coming
Also with pen and ink with the bird subject: is less more?

please upload a video of how to draw birds outline..........because shading is no use till we did not know how to make the base of a drawing....the base in this video is how to draw the birds........but anyway the shading is awesome.....it is looking like the real furs and feathers of the bird......is it compulsory to use fine liners only....cannot we make it with ball point pen.........
+Mukeah Kumawat good point and yes, you can definitely use a ballpoint pen
You are amazing
thank you
Thanks much
As a makeup artist how can i recreate this bird look on someone?
+Nnenna Ndukwo think of the tools are used to draw with on someone
+Alphonso Dunn then just treat them like a pencil on paper
great video! learned alot of things! though the videos quality is a bit bad. But i guess its just an old video :)
yeah its old
i assume you are using some references to draw the outlines?
Some yup
So basically try not to use closed lines? I’m going to attempt a Hawk in pen on plywood.
you can vary where you open and close the contour. but generally open is good for feathers
Professor, how about black birds such as ravens? I mean, rendering a whole feathery animal in ink is very daunting =/
I will cover this soon : )
you are the best =)
You should consider adding music to the silent parts in your videos.
consider that suggestion considered
Sweet
Tq
Thanks man i drew a beutifull bird for my bird house!
Vasco Mata yayyy :-)
thanks a lot :)
paulo aguirre no worries
l need your bad ass art pencil. I use a freakin no.2 pencil and it *sucks*
a no. 2 is just as good, trust me
A no.2 mrchanical, yes. But a regular wooden no.2 pencil
Just gets unsharpened every 30 seconds.
I often only use a No.2 pencil, I kinda draw heavy to, but I also draw rotating the pencil so it stays sharp longer.
Sorry! but I need to know how to draw the bird not shade
Oh ok
Alphonso Dunn hi love all your lessons, do you have anything on a basic bird drawing thanks
lmfao
can you draw a cheetah that would be awesome
: )
subbed :)
Thank you
It is not fair you did not draw birds before us.....
No, no, no Alphonso. You need to DRAW THE BIRD. The shading is only secondary.
Sorry! But I want to know how to draw the bird... not to shade it
Please.....
+Mukeah Kumawat lol good point
360p, PERFECT
Lol
Actually not "how to DRAW a bird" but "how to copy on trace paper someone elses bird and make it look like your own" . My daughter (5th grade) do this at school.
Man, you can draw so so good! Why you post such trace paper scams? Sometimes I dont understand you.
