No wonder all roads leads to Fitz, cause that's where the source of strength is.

When secret service walked in there , making room for fitz to do his sexy power walk , I squealed . I'm so glad he came to ground her and to speak some wisdom . This hug was almost nostalgic, taking me back to the many times he's been there for her, and the few times she let her guard down and let him comfort her . He's home ❤️👌🏾 even though Huck woke up , he's not out of the woods yet . I low key wanted Quinn to get to Abby faster when she jumped over that table and at least give her one good slap for putting Huck in this situation 😒 blah, blah, blah, forgive , forgive , forgive ....if Abby changes her ways I'll see . I was so pissed last night when this scene got interrupted, I swear there's some conspiracy going on against Olitz Lol. Last night I was pissed at Fitz for saying she needs to forgive her but now that I watched the complete scene I don't know how I feel, I say let's follow Hucks lead if he forgives then cool.

This episode of Scandal is the best episode of any show I've ever watched on television. I had all kinds of emotions about this. My favorite part was when girlfriend turned around and crazy ass Quinn was standing there, where's Huck; and when Olivia asked Abby, where are you going? I mean Abby was a hostage. And then that scene where the three of them were like, why we have to watch Abby! And then when Huck was trying to get out of that car, man I was cringing and crying the whole time. Huck is my man. My two favorites were Columbus Short's character and Huck!!!

We deserve good things and it sucks that black woman don't get their happily ever after, that they have to be strong all the time, that they have to only rely on themselves so they don't appear weak. It was revolutionary to see a black woman in a place of power and she wasn't dismissed for it. It was revolutionary to see a black woman on TV who had a man who loved her without demanding anything or ridiculing her. A black woman who had her life in order, smart, intelligence and resourceful and Shonda destroyed everything. Now it's like watching a train wreck after they brought in the stereotype of the abusive father and abusive boyfriend. Because this is the norm now and it sucks.
Shonda destroyed this character, or did she destroy what you wanted to see represented for black women? From the first episode, Olivia told us "I'm not normal" but we gloss over what that might mean as the story unfolded. As black women, most of us have our lives together, live our lives every day with normal events occurring and a good many of us find good solid love in our relationships. Normal would have seen all that you said...a black woman with her life in order, smart, intelligent and resourceful. While we were all enraptured with the magic of Olitz's love for each other (THAT I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT GET ENOUGH OF) and we loved how much Fitz loved her in a pure way, the fact from the very beginning was that their pure love could not blossom fully because they were having an affair. We forget that in the real world, none of us with say a woman who does that is a woman who has her life together, but this was the power of Shonda's writing that pulled us to be on the side of the mistress. Fitz was married to a monster but the fact was, he was married. On top of that, Olivia agreed to commit the crime of rigging a presidential election and we learnt this from the beginning of the show. Seasons 1 & 2 of the show are my absolute faves, but we have to honestly ask ourselves what woman who really has her life together would sneak around with a married man and agree to commit such a crime. So later when the abusive father and boyfriend came into the picture, it made sense because her personal life was revealed to be anything but together from the very beginning of the show. We don't like to admit it but only a true creative can get us to lay aside our normal judgements of that type of person and instead root for them for 1 hour every Thursday. I think we need to let artists, especially black female creators like Shonda, create freely and appreciate the much needed entertainment they provide and not confuse that with what we know happens in real life with black women. But I am still amazed at what we conjure up when we see what we want to see rather than what actually is.
Have you ever seen" the take " on the strong black woman. We have this narrative of the take charge strong woman. While it's nice it doesn't allow for ambiguity we as the audience just.want liv to be a good person and save the day but a perfect person isn't real. Olivia was generally good but she could be corrupted. She could make mistakes. To me that is far more important then showing a woman who has all her ducks in a row.

And I understand an artist should be able to portray life, that's fine but Olivia pope is a politically powerful black woman in Washington and has someone who loved her 100%, I don't get to see that often on tv. Olivia could have so many storylines than what shonda did and its was disappointing did me. I've seen so many shows that represent black women this way and it got old fast. It feels like even in a fantasy world, we can't escape it. I don't mean to send a temper tantrum that I didn't get me way or something but I was just disappointed. How to get away with murder is another show that did the exact same thing. Abusive parents, abusive friends, abusive lovers. Recycled stories.
Kell Harris I LOVE the take. One of my fav channel and I was so happy they did that episode. But Olivia making mistakes wasn't really my problem. Them showing she could be human, even though she has to pull herself together wasn't the problem, season 1 and 2 showed that but as soon as her father showed up..... it was like flashbacks of stereotypes for me. Every seAson started feeling like Olivia was just reliving trauma from her childhood and it was affecting every decision she made because her parents still control or affect her life negatively. It just got repetitive fast and it's an overused story when it comes to black women, and I'm sure many still liked it but not me... for me, season 1 and 2 Olivia was great. She was human, made mistakes, took charge even when it hurt, did bad things for 'good-ish' causes and was vulnerable with ppl she loved. That's a multidimensional character. I'm all for artist talent and Shonda is super talented but again and again, It's like she starts out so great and then .... idk

As a black woman, I too like to see black women portrayed in a positive light, enjoying love and genuine connection. The need for tv being an avenue to escape is also understood. I have never been as captivated by a show as much as I was with Scandal because it did provide that escape for me. All 7 seasons of it (ok, except parts of season 3 because at least one of those episodes when Olivia was in a really dark place with Jake, and it touched on self- flagellation, that in all my re-watches, I could never watch again *shivers*). Prior to Scandal, I could hardly find a show or movie where a black woman was not only the lead, but a powerful one that was gorgeous, intelligent, respected, accomplished, understood the word fashion, financially free and in love with someone worthy of her. The recycling I'm accustomed seeing was black women having maybe some of those traits, but without the love of someone worthy (or hard in her search for that someone). And even worse, the series/movie always ended with this black woman not only losing the person she loves but we NEVER see that person consistently stay in love with that black woman and never give up on her. What made Scandal different for me, is that even though Olivia seemed to be stuck in the same spot due to abusive parents, abusive friends,] abusive lovers, this black woman's value was consistently elevated in a way that was in your face by the love of her life. He performed acts of love, some of which were extreme with the distinct impression of this deliberate theme from Shonda of "just in case you were not clear on the value of this black woman" and all of this while this black woman was out there being a whole mess and just spiraling trying to find herself: -that love sent an entire country to war to try to save her when she was kidnapped, -divorced his blue blood wife while while he was a sitting republican president to try to be with her in the open knowing the backlash he would get from the racists in his party, -he never diminished her for having an abortion and not telling him about her pregnancy because knew how lost and alone she must have felt to have made that decision, and he respected her right to choose, -he came when she called him after she murdered her kidnapper and literally helped her bury the body and shielded her from criminal prosecution, -he gave to her a family heirloom (doux bebe) that he should have given to his wife when they were broken up and not even together at the time -he poured millions of dollars into building a home for her when he only thought they had a chance (he didn't know for sure but he did it anyway)... we know the list goes on. And Fitz did all of that while he was uncovering all of these abuses that she had endured/was enduring because she was never too abused or damaged for him to love. We do not truly know the strength of anything until it is tested. Fitz loved Olivia during season 1 & 2 and knew some of her mistakes and shortcomings professionally (defiance etc.). But he did not know about who she was in her personal life, her upbringing, her triggers, who her parents were and how those parents shaped her. This for me is what made the way Shonda portrayed this black woman so revolutionary and why many of us got hooked. We know in our reality there is a harshness that black women cannot escape but so many of us still find good solid love that we enjoy but we don't get to see that on TV. Scandal changed that but I think some of us missed that fact. I'm hope you see where I am coming from and hopefully watch the show again with different eyes. I'm sorry if I rambled and if this was too long but I could not stop writing...

I actually liked this episode .and especially this scene . the way missy reacted to abby in this episode kind of the way abby acted with missy in episode 401 when harrison died . remember how they got into it in front of the white house when missy first came back from wherever rowan sent her and jake .then jake at the funeral supposedly to comfort her . this time fitz is there at the hospital to comfort her 😍 because of huck and plus he knows she's mad at abby . then there's her and abby holding hands and crying at the end just the same as they were at Harrison's funeral. all in all good episode because huck survives . quinn showed abby that she was quinn bitch 😁. im also laughing at the fact that jake couldn't do anything to calm missy down and get her back to business. it took charlie and fitz to do that . jake is right there and who does she give at the hospital? From the first episode, Olivia told us "I'm not normal" but we gloss over what that might mean as the story unfolded. As black women, most of us have our lives together, live our lives every day with normal events occurring and a good many of us find good solid love in our relationships.
Normal would have seen all that you said...a black woman with her life in order, smart, intelligent and resourceful. While we were all enraptured with the magic of Olitz's love for each other (THAT I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT GET ENOUGH OF) and we loved how much Fitz loved her in a pure way, the fact from the very beginning was that their pure love could not blossom fully because they were having an affair. We forget that in the real world, none of us with say a woman who does that is a woman who has her life together, but this was the power of Shonda's writing that pulled us to be on the side of the mistress. Fitz was married to a monster but the fact was, he was married. On top of that, Olivia agreed to commit the crime of rigging a presidential election and we learnt this from the beginning of the show. Seasons 1 & 2 of the show are my absolute faves, but we have to honestly ask ourselves what woman who really has her life together would sneak around with a married man and agree to commit such a crime. So later when the abusive father and boyfriend came into the picture, it made sense because her personal life was revealed to be anything but together from the very beginning of the show. We don't like to admit it but only a true creative can get us to lay aside our normal judgements of that type of person and instead root for them for 1 hour every Thursday.
I think we need to let artists, especially black female creators like Shonda, create freely and appreciate the much needed entertainment they provide and not confuse that with what we know happens in real life with black women. But I am still amazed at what we conjure up when we see what we want to see rather than what actually is.
Have you ever seen" the take " on the strong black woman. We have this narrative of the take charge strong woman. While it's nice it doesn't allow for ambiguity we as the audience just.want liv to be a good person and save the day but a perfect person isn't real. Olivia was generally good but she could be corrupted. She could make mistakes. To me that is far more important then showing a woman who has all her ducks in a row.
GladiatorSlims I understand your point. I really do, but I don't want reality in every show I watch. I'm living reality. Tv is escapism. And I understand an artist should be able to portray life, that's fine but Olivia pope is a politically powerful black woman in Washington and has someone who loved her 100%, I don't get to see that often on tv. Olivia could have so many storylines than what shonda did and its was disappointing did me. I've seen so many shows that represent black women this way and it got old fast. It feels like even in a fantasy world, we can't escape it. I don't mean to send a temper tantrum that I didn't get me way or something but I was just disappointed. How to get away with murder is another show that did the exact same thing. Abusive parents, abusive friends, abusive lovers. Recycled stories.
Kell Harris I LOVE the take. One of my fav channel and I was so happy they did that episode. But Olivia making mistakes wasn't really my problem. Them showing she could be human, even though she has to pull herself together wasn't the problem, season 1 and 2 showed that but as soon as her father showed up..... it was like flashbacks of stereotypes for me. Every seAson started feeling like Olivia was just reliving trauma from her childhood and it was affecting every decision she made because her parents still control or affect her life negatively. It just got repetitive fast and it's an overused story when it comes to black women, and I'm sure many still liked it but not me... for me, season 1 and 2 Olivia was great. She was human, made mistakes, took charge even when it hurt, did bad things for 'good-ish' causes and was vulnerable with ppl she loved. That's a multidimensional character. I'm all for artist talent and Shonda is super talented but again and again, It's like she starts out so great and then .... idk
@@tinaloye2014 I do understand your point as well and it makes it clearer here that for you, Shonda did shatter what we would like to see portrayed for black women on tv. As a black woman, I too like to see black women portrayed in a positive light, enjoying love and genuine connection.
The need for tv being an avenue to escape is also understood. I have never been as captivated by a show as much as I was with Scandal because it did provide that escape for me. All 7 seasons of it (ok, except parts of season 3 because at least one of those episodes when Olivia was in a really dark place with Jake, and it touched on self- flagellation, that in all my re-watches, I could never watch again *shivers*). Prior to Scandal, I could hardly find a show or movie where a black woman was not only the lead, but a powerful one that was gorgeous, intelligent, respected, accomplished, understood the word fashion, financially free and in love with someone worthy of her.
The recycling I'm accustomed seeing was black women having maybe some of those traits, but without the love of someone worthy (or hard in her search for that someone). And even worse, the series/movie always ended with this black woman not only losing the person she loves but we NEVER see that person consistently stay in love with that black woman and never give up on her. What made Scandal different for me, is that even though Olivia seemed to be stuck in the same spot due to abusive parents, abusive friends,] abusive lovers, this black woman's value was consistently elevated in a way that was in your face by the love of her life. He performed acts of love, some of which were extreme with the distinct impression of this deliberate theme from Shonda of "just in case you were not clear on the value of this black woman" and all of this while this black woman was out there being a whole mess and just spiraling trying to find herself:
-that love sent an entire country to war to try to save her when she was kidnapped,
-divorced his blue blood wife while while he was a sitting republican president to try to be with her in the open knowing the backlash he would get from the racists in his party,
-he never diminished her for having an abortion and not telling him about her pregnancy because knew how lost and alone she must have felt to have made that decision, and he respected her right to choose,
-he came when she called him after she murdered her kidnapper and literally helped her bury the body and shielded her from criminal prosecution,
-he gave to her a family heirloom (doux bebe) that he should have given to his wife when they were broken up and not even together at the time
-he poured millions of dollars into building a home for her when he only thought they had a chance (he didn't know for sure but he did it anyway)... we know the list goes on.
And Fitz did all of that while he was uncovering all of these abuses that she had endured/was enduring because she was never too abused or damaged for him to love.
We do not truly know the strength of anything until it is tested. Fitz loved Olivia during season 1 & 2 and knew some of her mistakes and shortcomings professionally (defiance etc.). But he did not know about who she was in her personal life, her upbringing, her triggers, who her parents were and how those parents shaped her. This for me is what made the way Shonda portrayed this black woman so revolutionary and why many of us got hooked. We know in our reality there is a harshness that black women cannot escape but so many of us still find good solid love that we enjoy but we don't get to see that on TV. Scandal changed that but I think some of us missed that fact. I'm hope you see where I am coming from and hopefully watch the show again with different eyes. I'm sorry if I rambled and if this was too long but I could not stop writing...
has anyone else noticed that when fitz said that he forgave her she had the same facial expressions as she did back in season two episode when he sat on the couch and told her to watch him choose her and watch him earn her ?

Where is the confident, compassionate, softer Olivia that fans once loved? There's even talk that Shonda raked Tony over the coals when he asked her simple question regarding the show with her smart-ass response being, "I don't tell you how to act, you don't tell me how to write." Was this the reason Tony was the ONLY cast member missing from the 100th episode Scandal "celebration"? I cannot stomach Shonda anymore she's a real...

I just started watching and I can't stop myself of thinking how abusive and disrespectful is their relationship. They promise each other love and next minute are having sex with someone else or screaming at each other. So painful to watch how abusive is romanticized in this series.

I read on one of those sites that does the reviews for scandal, that Tony said he's come to accept the fact that Fitz and Olivia aren't getting back together. Now I don't know if that's what Shonda told him or he's just speculating. I'll try and find the site and post it. but yeah I was disappointed when I read that.

coop4olitz oh so that's how you've been keeping up with what's going on on scandal . you've been taping it . well all I can say is that I hope the writers give us olitz . in my mellie voice I would hate to think that we went through all of this for power and a cheap screw. I actually liked this episode .and especially this scene . the way missy reacted to abby in this episode kind of the way abby acted with missy in episode 401 when harrison died . remember how they got into it in front of the white house when missy first came back from wherever rowan sent her and jake .then jake at the funeral supposedly to comfort her . this time fitz is there at the hospital to comfort her 😍 because of huck and plus he knows she's mad at abby . then there's her and abby holding hands and crying at the end just the same as they were at Harrison's funeral. all in all good episode because huck survives . quinn showed abby that she was quinn bitch 😁. im also laughing at the fact that jake couldn't do anything to calm missy down and get her back to business. it took charlie and fitz to do that . jake is right there and who does she give at the hospital? FITZ!!!
