From someone who has a samsung chromebook 4. It is worth the price. Ive had it since april 2021 and its lasted great. It cant handle gaming for periouds of time but generally is good. Has good speaker, small, can fit in laptop sleeves easily, secure, and more. Very customisable and overall a good laptop. Hope this helped!

The TN panel is definitely not the worst I have ever seen. I love this laptop because it looks great and is very light for a 15.6" laptop. I replaced the TN panel with an IPS glossy screen from Amazon for $90 (the IPS matte screen is about $65). Extremely simple to replace and took me about 10mins). Now, I definitely can do photography works on this chromebook.

Bought this for my child to use for online schooling. It worked pretty good and had very little " Hiccups". Only 2 problems that I really saw. First was that it slowed down when you ran a few demanding programs at once. for example the Chromebook would have trouble running when zoom was running and the teacher would have the kids run brian pop jr while working on a word document. The other problem was that the screen is always dark even thought the brightness was all the way up. Also you can never find a good view with the screen in any position. The screen is much bigger than the school Chromebook which is way better for the eyes. In my opinion this Chromebook was still way better than the school provided Chromebook. I would give it a 6/7 out of 10.

I purchased one for me with 128gb and for my daughter the 32gb. She has a Mac Book but used mine and wanted one just to take to school. I absolutely love mine. He is correct in that the speakers and the sweet spot for viewing. I take care of that with the volume master app or my Bose speakers. As far as the sweet spot I just adjust it for viewing. It does what I need it to do. It was about $400 for mine and $300 for my daughter's. I don't agree with this review because it's biased. Go get it. You won't be disappointed. Please note that this is not the computer for gaming. This is best for school work, paying bills, doing your taxes and streaming TV. I love mine.

    • @JimiandSamantha

      How is that review biased?
A few months ago,, I bought an Acer Spin 713 for $332 for my father. It has 64gb and an i3 processor, and a 2k screen with 3:2 ratio. I got one for my mother that is an i5 with 256gb. That one cost me $440.
Between that and the 4+ with the TM screen, they're not even in the same hemisphere.
$300-$400 is a LOT to pay for a chromebook with those specs and screen.
The issues and compromises would all be manageable for the $200 range, but $400 is considered the premium tier of chromebooks and the 4+ has only entry level specs.

@@pmshea63 if you can get it on the cheap, absolutely! I saw Target had it back in stock for like $249 or something crazy. Personally, I would NOT pay a penny over $100 for it. It works just fine for simple tasks, but anything above and beyond takes a lifetime.
I've been using it for about 3 weeks now. The screen is bottom of the barrel. It works, but the quality of the picture is subpar at best. It is super light and portable and the battery lasts forever! Considering you are only doing menial tasks on this, I guess long battery life should be expected.
Let me know if you have any specific questions! I'm happy to help.

Just bought a Lenovo IdeaPad 3 with 8gb of RAM and a intel celeron 4020 for 329eu (which is insane here in the Netherlands, most ultrabooks here are 1000eu+)
Used to code in arch linux on ultrabooks but battery life was always meh and have been coding mostly in c/c++ and python lately so after my old ultrabook was getting slow and battery getting even worse for the second time I decided to try a chromebook.
Must say I am very impressed. The battery life is just amazing. I can easily work the whole day and never even have to worry about charging. And the linux support works great (prolly because both based on debian)
    It's amazing.

Purchasing my Chromebook Plus was by far the best ever decision I have ever made. Yet Ever after the 1st gen Chromebook Plus and Pro, there just has not been a Chromebook (at a mid-lower price range) with the type of specs and design that suit me (2k+ 12-14 inch touch screen, super thin design and a 500-ish price tag). I've noticed that Google Docs and Sheets seem to be getting slower and slower no matter what Chrome device I'm on

    • @psdaengr911
      @psdaengr911 4 ปีที่แล้ว

They are measurably slower, IMO because of several things. Not in any order: Drive access time, Chrome OS footprint and feature expansion, Docs codes expansion, and any enabled Accessibility features, especially Voice input and the ASSistant. (Accessibility for the keyboarding-impaired).
I noticed the first large performance reduction in overall Chromebook performance came immediately after the Dec 2019 update, the next one when the brainless "ASSistant" was integrated. I got some performance back by disabling OK Google and more by progressively shutting off preferred input (voice), related information and finally switching off the Assistant entirely.
It would not be so frustrating if the Chrome OS ASSistant worked as well as the Google Home Mini ASSistant, if either worked as well as the same exact question is entered as speech-to-text into the Chrome browser Omnibox and the first listed search response is chosen. These are obviously three different "products" that MIGHT share some code and a all far, far from being reliable and useful if you have a +500 word business and tech vocabulary.
The question is whether the slight improvements in convenience are worth the slowdown you experience. If not, be aware that every open tab, app or window will slow the machine. Using a not-default mouse cursor size can lower performance so can enabling any experimental flags you see recommended in blogs. Under Android developer apps, lowering the Animator duration scale from 1 or 0.5 or disabling system-wide night mode can speed up Android apps. Having multiple Desktops open or using tab groups WILL slow Docs performance; it's better to use save open tabs as bookmarks and open a new window only when actually needed.

With laptop PCs screen is where smaller is usually better, especially for a given price-point for a machine I needed to use for hours at a time on my lap or portably, I would choose an 11" IPS screen over any larger TN/TF display. If I also needed to use it stationary at a fixed location desktop, I'd get a larger external monitor and possibly a keyboard - they are THAT much better and they will outlast multiple laptops.

Hey, I'm not a computer geek. I'm older. I bought a Chromebook to avoid Microsoft problems. Well I got into mirroring with my two year old Samsung chromebook. A budget model. After a week of trying to mirror this thing, I figured out how. Why Samsung didn't put hdmi in this thing is beyond me. So, now this thing with only two USB ports, the one that charges the battery also does the mirroring. Only one problem. I can't mirror for long because the battery dies. Thank you Samsung. You really had us budget people in mind. All I use a laptop and tablet for is simple surfing and emailing. Not much else but also as a TV. Pluto is great, and doesn't cost. Dishtv you dropped the ball. So, this is my second Chromebook. My first was an Acer. The keyboard died too soon so I bought Samsung this time, when Google stopped supporting it. Bummer. Oh well. I understand Google has to make money. Hey Google send some my way. I might be able to buy more Google services and products. How do people buy things without a job and money Congress, and Joe Biden? You throw money at the rich people, and not the people who support and keep the economy going. This makes no sense to me. Well, thank you Samsung, for no hdmi, and forgetting about us budget people. This is probably be my last Samsung chromebook. I believe I'll buy a used one next time possibly and gamble on it working without being supported. Oh well. One does what one has to do, beecause they have no other choice. George Carlin was right. Don't vote! F--k 'em, especialy when they fix the elections. Trump won and we all know it. Now they are trying to keep him from running again. I'm wondering why he's even bothering. Support AI and put them all out of business.

Long story short, I had to donate my own laptop to my daughter as she needed a windows unit for her school/college unit and get a replacement. As cost was an issue this seemed a good idea as it only cost me £92. Thus far I am impressed as I only need it for streaming, light document and cloud based work. I looked at several reviews and bought a Samsung. Its a few months old and it loses Wi-fi connection quite often, and no its not the router or other problems, its a hardware issue, and i am quite disappointed, cuz my ASUS was flawless for years until i dropped it :(

I just purchased a version built in April of 2023. I have tried to replicate the flex of the chassis shown in the video but just get a slight flex but nothing like this. Wondering if over 3 years Samsung went and reinforced the bottom chassis. Anyone have ideas on this?

I had an acer 11” chrome-book in 2015 that I used for community college cause everything was google docs. I still had a macbook but used it more for work. The acer chrome-book I had was so cheap it was $159 from best buy. It had a 1080 screen great build and display. I even had the HP 11” model that was white I switched to an it was amazing. Idk wtf happened with chromebooks there more expensive and built like crap now. You can find a macbook used for $400 and call it a day.

Are the speakers only on the bottom? It looks that way in your video. I ask bc I usually watch movies in bed and if the speakers are only on the bottom, I imagine the bed would totally muffle them.

I bought a couple netbooks during the years of 2009-2011. Everyone hates on them. Yet here they are again, just with a new name and a different OS! 1.5-2gb ram with an Intel Atom?! RIP Netbooks, hello Chromebooks!
Also a Raspberry Pi 4 has 2/4/8gb and a multi core ARM CPU. I bought a 4gb Pi 4 last year for 49.99 (99.99 with the kit including cables, SD card, etc). This Chromebook, the 4gb, currently goes for 229.99. Granted it's a bittttt (ok a GOOD bit) more portable, but at 1/2-1/4 the cost....
FYI I just got this Chromebook, the 4gb version, for free from Verizon. My biggest gripes so far are the TERRIBLE TRACK PAD, and bad keyboard (I'm a 100+ wom typist).
Trying to figure out how to put an better distro of Linux on here aside from Chrome OS. I'd I can figure that out I'll get some decent use out of it .

Ya, the flex in the body and the visible space when pushing down on the trackpad (original open-boxing) was not too good. I'll stick with my HP x360 14 from January 2109. :)

I once had a 15" Gaming Laptop with TN screen. 🤮Never again. I can live with cheap build quality and everything else cheap as long as the price is right. But I'll never again compromise on screen. I need to see what I'm looking at and not have it completely washed out the moment I move my head 1" to left or right and always fiddling with screen tilt to try and get the best colors. 🤮
