The meta horror elements are gone, but the mental health issues for each character are still very much there. Act 1 is essentially just the normal DDLC game leading up to the festival. Acts 2 and 3 go in entirely new directions depending on which character you are romancing. There are unlockable CG photos, good and bad endings, and a pretty well written story. If you enjoy the characters and want more I'd recommend it. That said, I wrote this before DDLC Plus. I don't know that the Grumps are up for more DDLC now.
Until they played it I thought my friend misspelled hateful, and thought they were all angry boyfriends that you had to tame and make them nice people.
