    It took my parents over a week to cancel our Direct TV subscription they kept bouncing us around, putting us on hold and refusing to cancel it. With streaming you just need to click few buttons.

      I might actually make a part 2 for this video with how problematic cable is and the cable companies intentionally make it difficult to cancel your cable subscription so you give up.

    Another example that Teenick airs nothing but Henry Danger 24/7!

    I remember when I was little, Mom said when we get our first color TV, we are getting cable. I lived just west of Pittsburgh near the airport in a flight path and airplanes flying in would cause the picture to flutter on the 1959
    Philco. We got color in 1971 and cable where it was like $7 a month. Back then you got all Pittsburgh channels plus some from Youngstown, Wheeling, Steubenville and Johnstown. We had the Air Force Reserve at that time where they flew in the old C-124 Globemaster II with piston engines, those were murder on OTA TV.

      $7 a month for cable TV in the early 70s?!

      @@ArtieRaccoonReviews Yeah , I remember seeing a bill from 1971 and it was like $7 and some change and for a few dollars extra, they had cable FM for your FM stereo. I lived in Moon Township and the Coraopolis area west on Pittsburgh near the airport and cable was becoming popular because of the planes flying around like the 1940's era C124 piston engined monster planes and the F-102 interceptors. As I said before, the only outside channels we received was the adjacent markets plus we did have a local weather channel as well where it was a basic camera setup on a rack where it moved back and forth across the gauges for temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, etc and it was only black and white. I remember 1978 was a big year, we got Superstation WOR out of New York City and HBO in June of that year. I remember watching my first HBO movie, Marathon Man, with Dustin Hoffman. By 1980/81, we started to get MTV, USA Network, CNN, Cinemax, Nickelodeon, A&E and a could of others. If you had the 8 channel box, you were in fat city. I remember many a late night where if I stayed at my buddy's house, we'd sneak down to watch the bold rated "R" movies where they were getting close to "X" rated, we used to call Cinemax, "Skin--a-Msx." We also enjoyed Benny Hill on Cinemax and WOR as well. HBO went off the air around Midnight until 1981/82 IIRC.
      Our cable company was local, it was called "Astrovision" which was founded in 1966, again, it was a huge deal because of all the airline traffic. WE got it in 1971 when we got color. A local family owned it, I graduated with one of them in 1985. They sold the company to New CHannels, out of North Carolina, about 1984/85 maybe, it is a little murky but I remember I was in high school. In the early 1990's they sold out to Time Warner. We went to Florida to see my relatives in 1999 and over the two weeks we were gone, Time WArner sold out to TCI and TCI sould out to Verizon where it is now. When we got back home, Mom and I thought, WTF? Another local company up in the Western PA area was Adelphia, they were in Altoona PA IIRC.
      BTW, a side note about Pittsburgh OTA channels then, we had two PBS stations, Channel 13, WQED and Channel 16, WQEX. WQEX broadcasted in all black and white until their 1953 vintage transmitter died in 1986 so in Pittsburgh, even as late as 1986, we had a black and white only channel. WQEX was more avant garde, surreal at times but basically it was a black and white only version of a free Brit Box over the air. I used to watch Dr. Who and Black Adder on it. I felt like I was in 1953. ;)

    Idk i think i get as many (if not more) ads on youtube as i do on cable. In both cases the content is censored and 90% trash.

    • @ArtieRaccoonReviews
      @ArtieRaccoonReviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      TH-cam used to be excellent until the first 2016 Adpocolypse, then it was downhill from there. The censorship is out of control and people censor very basic and inoffensive words like "kill" and "bomb" and it is absurd.

    • @mattwolf7698
      @mattwolf7698 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No we don't, it's nowhere close, cable would put on at least two ad breaks, each at least three minutes long for just a half hour show. I'll happily take TH-cam occasionally putting on two 20 second ads (they are usually shorter than that) over those cable ads. And if you watched a movie that was over two hours it would have over an hour of just ads in it.
      I remember DVRing the Harry Potter movies and I couldn't believe how many ads I had to fast forward through. I'm glad I had a DVR as I couldn't stand to watch much stuff live on cable even as a kid.

    I'm actually glad to see cable TV dead! The cord was FINALLY cut in our household back in 2022.
    It's too expensive, there's nothing to watch and the annoying commercials go on forever! >:(

    Sling TV actually let’s you choose your channels. Just choose the orange or blue plan and choose other channels like Disney XD or FXX. People should just convert to that.

    • @ArtieRaccoonReviews
      @ArtieRaccoonReviews  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a way better business model. Also instead of cable providers, you should be able to watch the channels directly from the companies that own them. It might be against antitrust laws but who cares?

  • @sf-dn8rh

    If you live in a valley area over the air antenna TV is garbage. My area, if your lucky, you get a weak CBS or METV. Nothing else and to top it off the repeaters ota uses, guess who runs em, xfinity. Cable is the only way to get a clear picture anymore, safely.

    • @ArtieRaccoonReviews
      @ArtieRaccoonReviews  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is why ATSC 3.0 needs to roll out, there is too many structures and natural obstacles interrupting the signal. The only problem with this is companies like Nexstar are taking advantage of this in a nasty way by DRM encrypting their channels.

    I had xfinity cable and internet from 2021 to beginning of 2024. The monthly fees was getting ridiculous almost 200 a month. I cut the cable but still have xfinity internet at a much lesser price. I stick with streaming that is more convenient. Hopefully cable services will end and become obsolete!
