    I bought 2 drift passes with Casey's promo codes. Found Mt. Snow because of Casey's early vids spreading positive vides and building the culture. It happens, that's business. Take pride in what you built and move on. Luckily I moved near Killington this year and Woodward was firing all year. I'll cover your hotel next year to start writing the next chapter here. Hell Woodward will probably cover it.

    Vail bought out Big Boulder, fired park crew and got rid of parks to make it more “welcoming to other customers” even thought the mountain is known for being Big Boulder PARK and having parks on all the trails. So sad to see the impact the cooperate machine is having on the industry. #bailonvail

      @@CaseyWillax True. There are many pros and cons of the mega resort buy offs. Pay increased for most instructors at Park City...as much as $5/hr above the regional rate, and with incentives it was a huge win for that demographic. Vail instructors fare even better with the business slick and well maintained facilities attract. As far as being a true professional at their resorts...pay, 401k matching, generous sick pay, and insurance packages really pay off for those dedicated to the industry. As someone who has worked for 7 different resorts their pros have outweighed the cons for me.
      The particular situation you speak of was a whole different enchilada. Covid reservation policies are agreed upon through local municipalities not the direct policies of the resort.
      Truly hope you have a better situation next time. Contacting ski and ride school can sometimes help as they have the best guest service peeps that can address issues in person. As you can tell I have worked for this department for many years and have helped many people have an amazing day or month long vacations. You are also right that the people really make a reaort and genuinely hope most of your local crew is maintained within their positions. Even Vail lost MANY positions due to covid and I hope those people get their jobs back...some already have so there is some light. Again...hope your next visit lives up to expectations!!! Peace and shred!!!

From locals commenting about parking, not being able to open on time, almost never having the back side open and the rude workers. A lot to say about this one. Vail bought out my home mountain a few years back (Stevens Pass), wish I could say our experience was different. Service has declined on every level since we sold, the mismanagement of perfectly healthy ski resort has been mind blowing. You'd think at minimum a massive corporation could keep their resort staffed, but between busting Ski Patrol's attempt to unionize, treating lifties like shit and de-prioritizing terrain park crews, they can't even do that. I bailed on multiple powder days this year after either sleeping in my car or driving up at 6am because Vail could literally not find enough staff to run lifts and/or having no patrollers to do avi work, again, directly caused by Vail's abhorrent labor practices and shit pay.
    Stevens Pass will always be home and I'm riding there no matter how disfuncional the management, but it's brutal to see the effect Vail is having on the culture, so many scenes around the country being damaged.

    • @UrbanRubble
      @UrbanRubble 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

There are only a few decent resorts near Minneapolis and they bought one them, laid off all the good folks, then jacked up the prices for tickets. It's just insane. But you're right. Boy do I feel your pain, I’m 55 yrs old who’s been boarding for 36 years starting at the Mt BAKER and Stevens Pass. Let me first say MT BAKER will never give up their family resort to any corporation, but Stevens sold out and for that Vail has created the absolute worst experience ever on any mountain.
    Between old school patrollers, groomers and lifties quitting I have never seen the length of lines midweek, only half of the mtn is open, some of the lifties they are assholes and the groomer drivers they have now leave hazardous curbs on high speed groomers.
    Even though my year was cut short due to a previous knee injury, I was glad to not be up there. My buddy sent me a pic of the lift line on the backside which consisted of at 500 people at one chair and when I look at the line I look at each one of those people standing there as one of their $111 lift tickets not riding. Believe me Vail received plenty of pissed off emails from me and my circle of spit. Not only was the lack of employees felt on the hill but also in the parking lots, the number of cars that were trapped in their spot for hours was insane, I could only imagine the amount of cars that were hit by someone just trying to leave.
    What I stressed to Stevens and Vail in my emails is that it must be nice to run a business that not matter the price of lift tickets or the size of the crowds, people will still patronize your mtn for the love of the sport skiing or boarding, or as we’ve seen recently forcing people to the backcountry either skinning or sleds putting themselves in greater danger. I had a sled for that reason but I found myself worrying too much of the potential hazards.
    Up here in the once great PNW as with I’m guessing most resorts what we need is more terrain/acreage added, when Stevens is putting out the LOT FULL signs an hour before the resort opens that a real problem. The sport(s) will shortly become a rich man only sport AGAIN, when we started boarding 36 yrs ago skiing was dying so resorts dropped lift tickets to $10 AND allowed snowboarding, then with the explosive popularity of boarding resorts were able to expand with lodges, new chairs, new groomers, more terrain and reliable staff, but I see these resorts (except BAKER) increasing the lift prices to thin the crowd.
    I’m hoping that the worst year in our 36 years of riding is directly connected to the “ virus “ and the midweek crowds will go back to normal or I guess it’s time to buy a new sled or limit my riding to a couple cat/heli trips.

      i'm in my 40's and live on east side of the mountains about 30 mins from stevens and worked there as an instructor from 2002-2012, my experience and everyone i know has the same views on vail as you do....they've literally ruined the mountain, i don't even ride there anymore save maybe one or two days a season now and i ride at least 100 days every season, at my age and with my family the days of doing ski ascents of mountains like adams and shuskan are pretty much over, i really hate what vail did to stevens, i find myself more willing to drive down to brianhead or other UT or MT resorts than drive the 30 mins to stevens. lol....seriously f that place and what they've done to it.

    I was never a fan of Vail buying Mt Snow. Can't wait until we start seeing those little yellow vest's of the fun gestapo show up on every run. Vail went more insane than anyone with this cororna bs. The reservation thing was so stupid, nobody else did that and it worked out fine. The fact they wouldn't even let you on the mountain when it was literally empty is infuriating. The attitude of the window people was also less than accommodating. Really adopting the "F U We're Vail" attitude at my home mountain, how great.

    Same thing happened to Boston Mills and Brandywine here in Ohio. Vail comes in and everything goes to shit. The parks were basically nonexistent and never upkept, Severely understaffed, food prices skyrocketed, lifts closed even on busy days, ski patrol being overly Dicks about everything. We may be buying a pass to a different resort and driving 30 mins extra just because how bad it was this year.

    I wonder why they sold to Vail in the first place? Ski resorts are tough to make money, in the red all year then might make a profit the last couple months of winter if the weather cooperates.

    I used to love Vail resorts. I've commented before on Beaver Creek (my fav mountain), Vail, Keystone. It's becoming a fight between Vail and Ikon resorts conglomerate. I don't like it. It takes small mountains and jacks up their prices to be within a few bucks of large mountains (BC example). After 15 years of shredding every year, this was the first year that I didn't go up. Had reservations, just didn't go. I won't be renewing my epic either. I love snowboarding (boarding in general) but at this point its more expensive than surf trips.
