  • Camera bags are an obsession of mine, and the new Pilot from Wotancraft might just be one of the best messenger style camera bags out there.

That is a helpful review. I am quite interested in this bag. One question for you: Is the shoulder strap long? I am 6’5” (almost 2m tall). It is a drag when the strap is too short. Thanks ahead of time.

Scott, how many Velcro partitions come with the bag? I see on the web site that they sell these. That made me wonder if, like the external pouches, velcro partitions are an “option” rather than included as part of the bag. It seems you can really customize these bags with the various options available.

    Hey @Scott Dumas
    Great review.
One question.. you mentioned that you put your iPad in that back zipped pocket.. how big is your iPad? Cuz I have 11 inch iPad Pro, so I wonder if it will fit in back pocket.. if so I could use the whole capacity of the main compartment.
    Thank you in advance!

This was two years ago and perhaps you are still happy with it. I want something smaller than my 'normal' bag, the LowePro Protactic 450 AWii. I also want something that flexes as it lays against my hip. I will not have a laptop or tablet, just cameras and gear. Does it have a nice comfortable flex? Thanks for your reviews!

Can the pilot 10l fit a Sony FF body + 70-200mm GM attached vertically? I'm actually looking to use it with a Canon R5 + RF 100-500mm which is about the same length as the Sony setup.

Does also the Trooper M is fitting the 15" MBP ???
Actually I want it to able to ad-hoc /emergency transfer my Lenovo T14 (33 X 23 X 1.8) when not fully loaded of course (max one body with small lens) , ..but not for regular laptop transfer usage

Great review buddy, I'm glad I'm in Taiwan near Wotancraft so I can go give it a try. I'm thinking if the 7L would work for my Leica SL2-S and the panasonic s pro 50 1.4. I have a bad list back so trying to minimize as much as possible

How comfortably does the 15" Macbook fit in there? Is there any extra space? I'm interested if this bag will fit a Zephyrus G15, but it's very slightly larger than the Macbook in every dimension (355 x 244 x 20mm for the G15 vs 349 x 241 x 16mm for the Macbook).

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  2 ปีที่แล้ว

It's a tight fit already, so that might be pushing it. I don't like using it when I also have cameras and lenses in the bag in all honesty. It's not impossible, but not the best for that.

@@ScottDumas Thanks for the reply. I wouldn't be carrying my laptop at the same time as my camera gear. Basically I intend to use it for my laptop and some other basic stuff as a carry-on bag (and day-to-day bag). My camera and lenses would be in my Pelican 1510 during the flight, and then after I arrive, I can switch the laptop to the pelican case and the camera + lenses to the bag.

Thanks for watching :) I would say it's somewhere in between depending on which photo you look at in which lighting, but it may also fade/wear with time, I know that's generally how they design their bags is with nice and attractive aging of the material in mind.

I so much wanted to purchase one of those bags, and when I had the opportunity of seeing one in person at a Leica store, I realise they were made of a fake looking canvas which was actually cheap plastic fabric.

@@etiennecosnefroy6120 The bags look like canvas but in reality they are plastic bags. No one ounce of canvas. They are meant to look the part but are stupidly overpriced. Nearly $500 AUD for the 10L.

Very good review. But when I see this kind of shoulder bag, with +5kg on one shoulder (water bottle, 3 lenses, 1 body, small equipment, laptop, weight of the bag + pouches...), and having to carry that all day, you have to love photography...

I've actually downsized so I've been shooting with Sony mirrorless and it makes that much easier haha. But, the Wotancraft Pilot backpack fits a pretty rigged out A7S3. I've gone through TONS of bags for my larger Z Cam rig in the past though- backpacks, shoulder bags, video rig bags... there was a Manfrotto video bag I liked but I can't remember the model name and don't have it anymore. It came in a few sizes though and I'd definitely recommend looking into it.

My opinion after a 2 week trip to italy. For that price NOT a nice bag and why?:
-Top cover flap is allowing rain to get in, due to the fold design .
    - Strap quick release is in the way to mount a camera clip, quick release is opening very easy. Shoulder pad twisting when bag moved from front hold to back.
    - internal velcreo separators / organisers, very stiff pore to set up. Laptop compartment 😅. Front pocket and rear pocket no external padding feeling damp very fast. Price the same as my Billingham bags but not quality.

@@goo0h I got in touch with them and should have one before Christmas so I'll be sure to post about it when I try it out... but I assume it's faster and easier access. Sometimes, this hook style clip can be fiddly and get stuck, mostly if the bag is packed tight. Not a huge deal at all- and actually probably a good thing in terms of anti-theft, so I'm looking forward to seeing how the FIDLOCK works and if it ends up being too vulnerable to pickpocket style theft.
