Kimi's Kitchen featuring Kimi Werner and Megan Godinez. Presented by

- Kimi Werner meets up with Megan Godinez to learn how to throw net, a traditional Hawaiian practice of gathering food taught to her by her father. Pounding surf, sharp lava rocks and the pressure of catching dinner are some of the challenges faced in efforts to catch little fry fish to bring home for dinner. But it's the lessons learned through this practice of patience, persistence and timing and learning to walk the line between two worlds of ocean and land that make this a very special tradition worth sharing. Mahalo to OluKai for supporting us telling these stories.

Fried Whole Fish with Chili Pepper Water:
Clean fish by removing scales and guts. Rinse and pat dry. Score each side of fish with knife and season with salt and black pepper. Pan fry in medium hot oil, until golden brown on each side. Serve with chili pepper water.
Chili Pepper Water:
5 fresh Hawaiian chilis smashed, minced or ground up (can substitute for other spicy peppers, like (1) habanero, (2) jalapeño, etc)
2 cloves of garlic, smashed, or minced
Add vinegar, shoyu and water to taste, based on your own love for salty/tangy balance.

Two good friends cooking fresh and local. Doesn’t get any better. Good job, ladies!
When she called it Physics, I immediately liked her.
Same!
I know Kimi can hang, but Megan is an absolute unit. What a legend.
This was so homestyle, it just brings me back to to da day! I'm a Tutu now and feel so blessed to have been raised Hawaiian style by my Daddy. Kanikapila on the weekends, dancing hula for the family, climbing on the roof to get the dryed fish, truly heaven on earth! Mahalo and Aloha from Maui!
Oh my Lord! She is a Filipino. I knew it right of the bat. Nice to meet you "Ante" (with Filipino accent) Meg.
We're winning just that they even share this life style with the world. I personally have never made the same chili pepper water twice, I think it's a very adaptable recipe and performs well with experiments. Little bit of worsteshire, fish sauce, soy sauce, along with ginger, garlic, rosemary was the recipe that got the most hits from friends saying best chili water ever.
Excellent video! Nice to see traditions passed down! My dad learned how to cast a net when he was stationed in Hawaii. He taught me the same way you threw it!
Happy see Kim's video. with beaches , ocean, fish and a friend who joined the show and a little buddy so cute.
Sweet and Superb! In the 1990's when I lived on da Big Island, every Sunday an old man from da Philipines made lunch at Spencer Beach Park. It was such a groove to hang there with the Kane and Wahini folk and talk story.
Another great episode! Mahalo for sharing another amazing Kama’aina, her story, and cultural connection. I look forward to the next one and many more to come. I wish I lived with you all on the islands. You are blessed! Mahalo for sharing your blessings. 🤙🏽❤️🐟🐠🐠
Well done video! Luv your statement bout the net being sorta the connective dynamic between the 2 worlds -ocean & us. (Something like that) -great understanding & way to put it.
Yeah! Kimi is back. Missed you, your crew, and those instructive cooking Videos.

Love it Kimi! I think I learned more in that episode about cast net than I have in my years of trying 😂😂😂. I have no problem with fishing and spears but cast netting is another art. Much respect

Love this so much. These are some bad a$$ women! Great video 🤙
Cool episode. Love the cooking episodes. Curious, why doesn't Megan have a hand line so she can control the net after the trow? It will also close the net on retrieval. I'm sure she know that but she must have her reasons?

Good to know that shes a Filipino
Great vid
Aloha Kimi. If I still lived on Lanai, I could show you a place at three stone or nana hoa that had plenty.
Aunty Megzzz! Yessah
Keep it up keep it up you are doing good job you are about to getting paid from TH-cam
That’s a great skill right there ladies but I think something is missing with your cast net which is a rope that holds your net after you cast it so you don’t have to chase it and also have a control after you throw it in the water.
One great episode. Hey what video tells us cooking time for these great pan frying meals?
Megaaaaan!
YAY❤❤❤❤❤
I feel like we're all proud Internet aunties and uncles when Buddy knew the name of the fish
Aloha Kimi. Megan is BA!
Well, now I know I was not a weirdo. I drank the shoyu too , when I was little , when mom was not looking. Lol. ✌🏼
Had to laugh at the; "Don' trow Molokai." _(And, I was waiting for you... to throw Molokai.)_ I could just see it flying that way. And I would have laughed even more, if you had, and then; caught the most fish.
Ps. Ever tried fried Kole with a sauce made from; Shoyu, Molokai Kiawe honey, garlic, and Hawaiian peppers? _(Good with Karaage too.)_
Pps: Molokai has some *really good* net fishermen. So, there's two kine _"trow Molokai."_
There's BUDDY!
Sick, grind time
@kimi_swimmy 1:51 sorry, but ladies, I'm fully straight but I got really distracted and so did mr. cameraman by how GORGEOUS Kimi is looking!!! Wow, Buddy's grown out of your body and you look INCREDIBLE !!!
Winnahs!!!

Hi kimi
“Another one”
-Dj khaled
Hi Kimi 😊✌️
I love how you ladies mentioned how your father taught both of you how to hunt for your meal. That's what's missing with today's children. Fathers are not there to teach the children how to be good adults. Women, please choose good men to procreate with. You ladies get to breed the next generation of humans. On a different note, deep fried fish is one of my favorites, but be aware of the oil you use to deep fry those fish. Seeded oil or vegetable oil is extremely dangerous to our health. Use an Air Fryer, it's so much healthier to enjoy those delicious fish.
I really miss the old style of video. Not trying to hate. But it feels very different and too tv like. 😢
Old farts.
Like #, .Good afternoon from Yipma Baruya TH-cam channel, Papua New Guinea. I enjoyed watching your contents, thanks for sharing. May God bless you
