Yes, part of it was taken in Tai O (crossing the river) but the rest on the way to the Po Lin Shi monastry.

Mr. Rogge, Very very thank you from my bottom of my heart, these movie bring me back to my happy childhood in Ngong Ping, every pieces of the places, mountain, rocks, trees, Mr. Brook Antony Bernacchi, even some of the people in the movie I may know. Most happiest and warmest period in my llife. I miss my father and each person I have met.

Wow ! These are REALLY vintage footage of Lantau Island. I guess even before the Yaumati Ferry service to Tung Chung from Hong Kong Island one service every two hours ! I still remember the good old days school picnic to Mui Wor and Guai Pei Wan.We often made jokes sending someone to Chi Ma Wan. I can still remember !
Thanks for uploading these most precious footage of the long almost forgotten past .

No, it was me, Michael Rogge. Of course there was no video at the time. It was taken with an obsolete 9,5mm movie camera (Pathescope)

I also failed to realize the first time around that 1:29 is the untouched Chek Lap Kok island. Stunning to see it in it's virgin form and I would bet that this clip is a rarity in that respect.

My father might be knowing the people and monks, whom appeared on your film , but very sad that my father has passed away just before a few months ago from this film posted, otherwise I could ask him.
The people on your film from 1:13, may hired by 貝納祺,Brook Antony Bernacchi, working for his tea garden. Some of them may possible still alive.
Your films are my treasure. Thanks a lot again, Mr. Micheal :)

Condolescences with your father. He saw HK change drastically in his lifetime. Remarkable that you mention Bernacchi. For a long time I tried to recollect the name of this politician/reformer. I stayed in his landhouse on Lantau around 1953.

Mr. Micheal, Thank you so much for your responses.
The house is still there, Mr, Bernacchi has developed his tea garden and horse farmer, he hired worker, and helped to build the village for the worker, built school, water pool....
I am lucky that I have met him a few time and still have a few pieces of clear memories about him. He was respectable.
Mr. Bernacchi has sea school in Stanley too.
I have some stories and photos about the village, I am expecting your message, hkhk8888@hotmail.com

@@oct-re9vc it would be interesting if you could share some of the stories with us here on you tube .
I know that there's also a lot of parks and Gardens in and around Hong Kong from what somebody else has said in their videos... this particular Island here... is it all built up now ? Or is it part of the parks...? Can you tell me what it is nowadays .

I can't thank you enough esp for that clip of the old Luna Park in North Point where my mother took me as a child. It really brought back memories. I've seen stills but never a video before. Amazing! It blew me away. By the way this year's X-Harbour swim will take place on Oct 6th 2013 at 8.30 am.

Fantastic work! I live in Tung Chung and it's great to see how the neighborhood used to look w/o highrises and jet planes. Good that one thing hasn't changed... the ancestors of those water buffalo are still wandering the hills.

  • @rhenke
    @rhenke 14 ปีที่แล้ว

I have hiked up there a bit, but I never got to see the water buffalo., I saw some evidence of them on the trail beneath the cable car line though.

Do you have any video about Pui O in lantau? I heard from an elderly lady that it used to be attacked by pirates back in the days and then they used Pui O as their hiding places as well. Thank u!
