"There is not and never was an India,” were the words spoken by former British civil servant John Strachey in a series of lectures he gave in Cambridge in 1888. Unfortunately, this view was not limited to him. Many other officials and political thinkers believed that if India would ever become independent, it’d fall into chaos and anarchy. 75 years later, we have proved them all wrong. How did we reach here? Despite the many problems that an independent India has faced, we have not only managed to survive but we have taken strides in many fields. In this video, we discuss the steps taken by India to ensure that the country was able to address its most pressing concerns. And in doing so, we have managed to resolve many of the problems that’d threaten the unity of our country.

I think MMS's first term was decent but he failed to exercise his authority in his second term and demonstrate to the people that he is indeed in charge. We all know why he wasn't allowed to do his job properly, unlike his years as FM under PVNR. People like a leader who is upfront and visible. MMS didn't grasp the power of TV and social media. At the end of the day, like it or not, the PM's role is a public-facing, highly political one, not a bureaucratic one like FM or Defense, etc.
Also, MMS rode the fruits of economic reforms from the Vajpayee era and didn't continue the momentum in his first term, leading to all kinds of crises in his second term (rupee fall, 2012 power crises, policy paralysis, failure to pass GST and FDI in retail). I'll give him credit for the Indo-US nuclear deal (again in his first term) which at least removed India from a kind of 'nuclear apartheid'.

His run as a PM was disastrous. His contribution in 1991 crisis is legendary but you cannot let that slip as an excuse for failures of UPA 1,2. Remember the Commonwealth disaster of 2009,such a shameful thing for India. Incompetence of India for World to watch while China had a great olympics a year ago. Don't be too emotional see people for what they are and what they achieved. Don't tell me also how India achieved a growth rate of 9℅ during 2006-8. At that time 40+ counties in world had 7 % rate so that wasn't an achievement. Open your eyes beyond this Bjp-Congress binary.

Imagine being born in low caste, no right to proper education, no right to even drink water from public places. Imagine the pressure created by the whole country not only the high caste but the same caste people to do not go against culture. But a single man, changed the thousands’ years old system. Like most of share our love for old classic Bollywood... no matter from which part they are from, they might have seen the movie in their respective languages yet they have seen it. I meet people from the North, the South, the North-east.. It's wonderful how India still existing as a nation. Many were expecting us to fall in to pieces. We achieved some milestones on the way to 75th anniversary. India have a lot of potential
But still we are the poverty capital of the world with 83 millions living under poverty , we are one of the most unequal society. It's sad we are destroying our land and water very light heartedly. We shouldn't blame anyone. Take responsibility and improve Ourselves.
What I noticed is we Indians have zero civic sense.
    Also I remember a quote :
love is wise, hatred is foolish. In this world, which is getting more and more closely interconnected, we have to learn to tolerate each other, we have to learn to put up with the fact that some people say things that we don’t like. We can only live together in that way-and if we are to live together and not die together-we must learn a kind of charity and a kind of tolerance, which is absolutely vital to the continuation of human life on this planet.
Put some more love in life.

I think we should introduce critical thinking in 5-10 standards. where you teach students to think objectively, teach about logical fellacy and psychology. Teach them how they can think more rationally and stop themselves from being brainwashed. Bcz even if people learn in school, they don't really grow as person. this is a very necessary inclusion in the curriculum. we were taught about this in 1st sem where there was only 1 class per week. And we treated it as time pass class, where as this should be one of the most important subject in our education.

3:27 There is a mistake. At time of independence Malabar was part of Madras province of British India. It was Travancore which initially refused to join Indian Union. An attack against Sir CP, Dewan of Travancore and its aftermath made Travancore to join Indian Union.
