ixRADIOACTIVExi I think it's like getting the precise color scheme and radiant to her hair and eyes to get the right "diamond" color not too bright or thick, but just right...maybe..?
Both from the perspective of modelling and shader programming, I would probably rather want to do her hair than the others. Fancy looking things like rainbow gradients can still be really simple technically, and they often leave you a lot more artistic license. Simple looking things often have much stricter requirements to adhere to a certain style, and it can get much more tricky to get a 100% match for those so they don't look "off". Making a ton of iterations by trial and error is perfectly normal for the process as well.
For the eyes and mouthline, those are both separate pieces of geometry that they adjust with the rotation of the face to match how it would look if it were drawn. Furthermore, the shape of the face also gets deformed with the camera angle, otherwise the actual 3D look of it would appear off. That's not to say that it is entirely done in 3D. Certain scenes will be redrawn in 2D if the details call for it, like gems shattering or close ups, or even the mouth and eye shapes.
I Knew it! There's no real way you can just use mouths and eyes like that just regularly placed onto a CG model! They even somehow made that awkward-looking side mouth thing work in CGI!
Do you know how? Vtubers are all the rage now but i dont think their models change depending on camera angle. Same with the botw and genshin models. How do you design a model that changes with camera angle?
It's really hard to get it right. There's a lot of stuff in 2D that you can't get away with in CG, namely frames A lower framerate looks a fuckton worse in CG than in 2D. Houseki falls prey to this, and is really only complaint.
It probally because most cg anime did not make anime on pure cg. They emplement cg on a 2d anime which the reason some cg look bad and really out of place. HNK on other hand make purelly on cg which make 2d cg problem never happen and the fact the gem is so easy to cg and on top of that they look awesome in cg which make it even better
CG is very expensive to do on this scale. The vast majority of anime studios have a low budget to work with and have to cut tons of corners even with 2d animation. Unfortunately CG just isn't very viable at the moment unless the company you work for has tons of money or was created for the purpose of popularising the use of cg animation (Studio Orange for example).
@@JuicedLeaf No, it is not: CG is cheaper. All studios have approximately the same budgets: 15-18k dollars per episode in a standard inexpensive series, and about 30k in expensive ones.

Just finished the season, brilliant; Now for OP's question. Really it's played up for artistic flair but here's some basic science. I myself don't know much on the refractive index but If I understand correctly there's a bit of a spectrum (pun intended), 'cubic zirconia' is really colorful when looked at directly. Whilst diamond shouldn't be too colorful but still disperses light (fire). The "whites and grays" you're referring to is the (brilliance) which is the light that isn't dispersed by the crystals geometry.
A person: sir, phos... B person who make phos model: let me guess.. she/he do something that make me need to change her/his model? A person: yes... And seem like there's no end to it B person: phos?? Why can't you stop suffering??!
According to my research, a real diamond shouldn't shine with the rainbow ON the gem and instead it I guess you would say it reflects the rainbow. So Dia would possibly be considered a fake diamond. (Sorry if this bothers anyone, but you can look it up and see for yourself if you don't believe me.)
purely realistic glassy would kinda be boring for something like diamond so they had to come up with a stylised appearance for the hair that had vibrant rainbows
I’m curious if any chance they’re gonna make another anime from Ichikawa’s works they better make it CGI. Her art style is perfect for making CGI anime out of.
I think Diamond is the prettiest, but her design has always bothered me so much because it shows a fundamental misunderstanding about how diamonds work. Why is she multicoloured? She's coloured like a crystal, or a fake diamond. Real diamonds are easily distinguished from fake diamonds by the very fact that they only reflect pure white light, or, the light that their diamond is, a yellow diamond will only reflect yellow and so on. Crystal, glass, and other stones that look like diamonds refract rainbows. It's one of the easiest ways to distinguish a fake diamond. Her design is pretty none the less, but she should be called Crystal, not Diamond.
Diamonds have much more dispersion than most other gemstones, certainly much higher than glass or quartz (I assume that's what you mean by "crystal?") It doesn't have as much dispersion or as high an RI value as moissanite, which is a common substitute for diamonds, but to say that diamonds don't split light into its component colors at all is demonstrably false.
When you look at a diamond, it should only sparkle white or gray which is "brilliance", it will only flash colour, it will cast coloured light onto other objects which is known as "fire". This is stated on just about every jewellery website and store I've ever been on. That's at least what I've seen, and what our local jeweler told us when verifying a diamond ring for us. My diamond only looks white when you look at it, but when you shine light on it, the light it casts on things around it has rainbows. So, even though Dia's design is pretty, her colour palette should be white and gray, and the light around her should be white and rainbow. "The way diamonds reflect light is unique: Inside the stone, a high-quality diamond will sparkle gray and white - known as brilliance - and throw off flashes of color called fire." Russell Shor, Gemological Institute of America

So they ARE 3d models! I thought it was all just really good animating when I got a phew eps in but when I started this was what I thought
Indeed. I'm glad they went the CGI route. There's no way you can get this amount of persision, detail, effects, and texture with hand-drawings.
I am pretty sure that making Dia hair are more harder
Because you know...
Her hair is Rainbow like
Diamond Rainbow
Maybe
