  • While most Floridians would chuckle and laugh at the idea of calling this place a beach… people in Texas don’t really have much of a choice. Maybe its all the chemicals?

"Southern Life" , lol. You drive a few miles through the poorer parts of town and talk down about a city you obviously know so little about? Doesn't seem very southerner to me. Galveston is a beautiful place, historically and visually. The island is very shallow (for the most part), which in turn causes the sand and sediment turnover to be relatively high and make the water seem "dirty" as you would say - Half a mile off the coast the water is clear blue.

THANK YOU!! I despise this video and the guy who created it. The two people that are talking throughout this video are extremely ignorant, uneducated people who are undeserving of being "southern". Galveston has a rich and full history. Also, the water is just brackish from all of the sediment laden freshwater that streams in from all the local bayous and rivers. If someone were to create a drinking game where players took a shot of liquor every time the color of the water was mentioned, the players would have alcohol poisoning less than halfway through this video.

And literally you don’t know where you’re going that’s the reason you went through all the old parts of Galveston there are so many nice places and nice homes here in Galveston you have to remember this island has been here since the very early 1900s so yes it has a lot of old buildings that’s called historic buildings just in case you didn’t know that.

Also, the refineries do not expel mercury so there is no way the chemicals at the plants would change the shrimp's mercury content. Gulf shrimp are known as some of the best shrimp in the world and it comes from all of the nutrients in the water that is stirred up by the currents and the large outpour from the Mississippi river hundreds of miles away. So, the exact thing that causes the water to be less clear is also the thing that creates the nutrients for gulf shrimp which also brings around tons of game fish. Beach; sediments that accumulate along the sea or lake shores, the configuration and contours of which depend on the action of coastal processes, the kinds of sediment involved, and the rate of delivery of this sediment. There are three different kinds of beaches. The first occurs as a sediment strip bordering a rocky or cliffy coast; the second is the outer margin of a plain of marine or fluvial accumulation (free beaches); and the third, of fairly peculiar character, consists of the narrow sediment barriers stretching for dozens or even hundreds of kilometres parallel to the general direction of the coast. These barriers separate lagoons from the open sea and generally are dissected by some tidal inlets. Certain sediment forelands, such as spits, points, and tombolos (which connect an island with a mainland), also occasionally are called beaches.

Coming from New York, Galveston is an improvement over Coney Island I can tell you that. It’s a great, spacious, peaceful, not too crowded beach full of regular families.
Sure it’s not as pretty as Florida but the south Florida beaches I used to love have been ruined by overdevelopment. Fort Lauderdale beach is in the shadow of high rises now. I’ll take Galveston any day.

It beats Myrtle Beach? Woah I’ve only been to Myrtle once and it looks 10 times better. That water and even the sand look terrible. Myrtle also is looks like it has more things to do, and cleaner. I think South Carolina has beaches that look like that with the sand and water all muddy but not Myrtle. Even Virginia Beach looks better. The beach itself looks almost like a Northern California beach, not in a good way. The city seems nice though.

We own a rental home near New Smyrna beach. I know Florida well. Your video shows a lot poor areas on Galveston island and then you trash the town without any knowledge. There is a lot more history and great places in Galveston than a majority of towns/cities in Florida. How about you make a video about how Florida is overrun with Burmese pythons that have decimated native mammalian populations in the everglades.
Or how about how Florida already has 20 million people living there, and then about a hundred million tourists who come every year. Most of these folks are crammed into a 35-40-mile-wide strip around the state’s coast or along the Interstate 4 corridor near Disney. You put that many people in that close proximity of one another-and they’re from so many different backgrounds and cultures and so forth-they’re bound to start ramming into each other’s cars, attacking each other with machetes, that kind of thing. Lol.
