Here's an idea: modded co-op, all of the players start in different hibernation chambers anywhere on the map, and all players must ascend together. Communication is forbidden, and you cannot have a preestablished meeting point.

The issue of not seeing other players can be mitigated by the quantity of players. The thought process behind this idea is "Not knowing where your allies are or communicating with them would provide excitement and relief when you do finally encounter another player."
Hmmmm how about start with a partner randomly and your partner can only communicate with you using discord and if you see another player you can group or seperate/leave them be and this can be good too and if a player ascend they will no longer seen by the player instead they show there names on the top of the screen showing "[player name] has ascended to this world" and they can either leave or they can spectate players but they cant interact items so they even fly or travel fast room to room and teleport to the player and watch him play thats all and thanks for reading!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this is what a battle royale should be. I never really enjoyed any battle royales before, but THIS actually reminds me of stuff like the Hunger Games. My only complaint is that there weren’t any hostile creatures. It degraded “the Rain World experience” and would (at least for me) really make the mode better if random lizard encounters were just as much of a threat (and a tool) as the other players. Still, this is by far the best take on the battle royale genre I have yet seen. This is great and I regret not finding this video sooner.
When PUBG and fortnight were both really big games I told all of my friends, (as a joke) that Rain World was the first battle Royale, and now it’s the best!

The limitations are a shame...my favorite form of rain world combat is hitting people with rocks and getting creatures to eat them. If there is ever a breakthrough in technology that would rock, but for now this is pretty spectacular. Great work, to you and the creator.
Someone has gotten Rain World working server-side, so creatures and everything else could be synced. It's not been released though, and the mod is 'mostly cancelled.' My hope is it'll get repurposed and we'll get Rain World online, just without whatever bells and whistles they imagined initially.

I continue to be impressed by what people do with this game world. I love the idea of a deathmatch game mode with more players where you have to deal with hunger and cycles.
This is awesome. The fact that everyone else is actually a human and you have standoffs and fights of opportunity makes this fit right in to the Rain World theme. The hesitation shown through your and other's actions is tense to watch, love it.

I like how quiet and brutal this is. Feels kind of like the actual Hunger Games, cautiously watching from afar-- you make one slip up and CRUNCH! You're gone. It's cold, tense, and unforgiving. I'd love some sort of multiplayer within Rain World, encountering strangers, being uncertain of their temperament... Forming a tenuous relationship, gradually learning to trust and rely on each other... I understand thematically, Rain World is meant to be an isolating experience; you're all alone in the world, at the bottom of the food chain, with nothing left for you here in this world, you search for a way out... but mechanically, having Journey-like multiplayer would fit so well with what's already going on in Rain World. It'd be amazing.
That showdown with the deep blue slug cat is intense. Your both observing each other and navigating yourselves into positional safety. The vibrant contrasting colors embody the conflicting combative spirit of both of ya. Sensing each others auras n shit
You should do a purely survival based battle royal. Where everyone has to survive cycles of dangerous animals in order to be the last one standing. Or a competition that Is point based, such as whoever has the least points in a cycle is eliminated, or there is one long cycle where whoever has the most points at the end wins, maybe with a slight bonus if they end up actually hibernating. Edit: stupid auto correct.
The creatures had to be intentionally removed because they don't sync with other players, whatever creatures you see on your side of the game are completely different (and may not even be on-screen) for someone else.

I mean gonna be honest, the third round was pretty messy with the voice chat and everyone talking.
They NEED to make some kind of Odyssey mode where its you and your mates going through the story. All together, hunter difficulty, permadeath.
But maybe make it more straightforward a path and only like 30 minutes long so it can be done in one session
And they could make permadeath optional for us noobs

Practice with survivor and get to know the map first. Knowing where to go is one of the best things you can have.
