1960 Tonka Sanitary System Garbage Truck Restoration

  • I purchased this 1960 Tonka Sanitary System Garbage Truck on eBay November of 2020. It was in obvious need of restoration. I was super happy when it arrived and a little surprised at how fast the action of the dump arms worked. In today's world this toy would have been recalled almost immediately do to the danger of it. This one took a little longer than normal and I was thrilled with how well it turned out.

Thank you for rescuing these classic toys. I had Tonka trucks as a kid. Those things were built to last. Toys are junk today.

THAT DUMPER HOISTING SPRING. The sheep flew, and sent ME. I've never burst out laughing at anything on your channel until that. I did NOT expect it to function that swift. lmao

These videos should be shown in schools and colleges to help inspire younger people in what can be achieved with tool skills. Instead, they all seem to be directed into management, to have meetings, drink latte and all without actually doing anything. I can't match this level of skill but I am so glad I can appreciate it. Thank you so much Chip Channel.

I only discovered this channel 1 or 2 days ago and I love it.
It isn't just restoration, the modern techniques like media blasting and powder coating mean that the restored toy is better than when it was new

There is four things I love about your restoration,
    1. The sheep in the junkyard
    2. The use of the sandblasting to remove the old paint
    3. The use of powder paint, instead of tin spray paint
    4. The way that you can make something that is old and rusted look like new, or how it looked like it was just rolled of the toy factory floor back int the day.

Your restoration videos are so relaxing to watch. Not like other channels. Dont get me wrong some of them can pull one hell of a restoration. But alot of them dump oxidizing liquids and what not on whatever they are restoring before the video to make it worse then it was. Dont get me wrong some of them have talent. But this tops the charts. Real restoration. Restoring old toys. The wear and tear and rust are real. Not made worse on purpose prior to the video. You channel has real personality and character. Keep up the good work.

Fantastic job, like always! Would not miss any of your videos, the sheep, and of course, "The Quality Inspector", the whole junk yard and, of course, your stable of cares and planes that Hoovie would never match. Worried about the index finger, followed the changes in band aids, the stitches in earlier videos looked serious, I hope it is ok now.

😮I just realized there's two mutant sheep in the junkyard! One eye, and a sheep whose head is upside down. Might want to run a groundwater test there buddy!🤔
The Trash Truck looks good as new. Awesome job like always!👍

The first of the sanitary trucks was 1959 them in 1960 someone was hurt by the truck dumping action. Tonka had started the 1961 trucks when they had to stop the sales of the sanitary trucks, The 1961 truck is rare and. It has white wall tires, but is the same as 1960 model. The 1961 bumper is changed. You do the tonka trucks and all the other trucks really well. thank you for your site.
