That La Lune looks very interesting, I have been spending a lot of evenings with my jnat, I would love to try a different natural stone. Thank you for sharing
La Lune - finally another new European stone! very nice and accurate review! Nicolas Rollin is the only one person that give us new opportunities to try new kind of stones... Black Shadow, La Lune and many other kind of wonderful hybrid coticules. Bravo Nicolas! 😊🇮🇹
La Lune - great review brother, i have been looking at this Stone for a while, since i want to begin honning my own razors. Thanks for the oppertunity to win the Stone and thank you for taking the time to make this review.
Hey Robert! Thanks for sharing your open opinion on that project and the La Lune stones, youre personal evaluation is well appreciated and thanks for sharing you‘re video. I love to see that a early idea and wish of many people and me came true. Nicolas is doing an awesome job, as many others beeing part of the community do too….i added La Lune only for mentioning purpose and not to take part on the free give away
I've found that working on a La Lune, I got the best edge by maxing it out and then adding a few drops of dish soap and maxing it out again. The edge was fantastic! I would suggest going from the 8k or a more refined synthetic stone straight to the La Lune.
@@RobertOrtiz1015 baby oil on last session(maybe 40-60 strokes each side,no pressure but keep blade on hone) on my la lune, gave just as good or better than yellow thuringian shave! like cotton balls are takin off the hair on ma face! insane
These do awesome with a slurry from a really fine coticule too. I have a lpb bout I use on my and it will take any harshness out of it. I haven't recieved my new one but on my vintage it can get a little harsh if I over hone on it, even with oil.
@@RobertOrtiz1015 - I wish Robert, but I'm not a very lucky person. I'm in need of a few more stones, so it would be great if I did win. Love your channel bro.
Are you Shure you get the real "la lune" , because Nicholas had also ather 2 Stone with similar colore , the "Red Blood" and the other Is similar of a vintage "rouge de salm"
I have a real "la lune" with the Nicolas Rollin sticker. The slurry on that stone should never be done with a diamond blade, not even with a 1000/1500 diamond blade because you will ruin the sharpening surface. practically the abrasives of the stone are "rounded". the slurry must be made exclusively with its boute. it is an ultra finishing stone, so if you find scratches on the bevel it is because a good pre-finishing of at least 8k synthetic was not done. if the pre-finishing is done well it leaves a very efficient and sharp edge with a mirror polished bevel. I have seen that for an even better result I always work with strop passages.
Honing experience is quite different! Ultimate result similar to a nice hard thuri... especially if you put some dish washing soap at the end and finish like that... its a capable stone
Ohh brother... being a natural stone... grit ratings are out of the picture. If i had to give it a rating i would say that it would be a finisher stone from 7-10k range depending on how you finish.
@@RobertOrtiz1015 just fyi, websites estimates 12-15k area, i own a 8x 2.5, for several months and would agree 12-15k area,, comfortable edge, which can be tuned mire sharp or smooth, usage dependent,, i use mine as finisher, and for touch ups, easy 16x glycerin water mix, before each shave, easy on razor, thuri like edge with hints of comfortable sharpness,,,( it is not a thuri, but can provide hints of thuri like,,,

Agree! You can do smiths honing oil as well since its water soluble

I've got one of the newly mined one on the way. I want to compare it to my vintage one. The old fast one I got eats steel like crazy.
La Lune - Beautiful stone. I was reading about them about two weeks ago, I'd love to have one.
Well good luck! You might win this one ;)

Well done video Bobby! I’ll have to try one out. 😉
Its an interesting stone for sure
oooo man what an interesting little stone 👍👍👍👍
Surprised me alot
I've been trying to find one of the vintage La Lune stones for a couple years now, would love the opportunity to try one of these newly mined ones
They are nice! The old one are scarce indeed
La Lune - looks like a very interesting stone. Wonder how much further it would take a les lat edge.
Checkout Calebs review as well... link in description... we both believe that it could finish at a high level depending on slurry thickness and such
I would like to try a la Lune for sure. I'm sure it would be better than my Shapton 12k.
It will be a different edge for sure. Synthetics are great for consistency but natural-stone edges are smoother ... for the most part
Interesting stone that LA Lune how does the edge compare to a coticule?
I like it... i think it’s smoother than many cotis! Some cotis are hard and can provide amazing edges tho
You should try finishing on the LL with water and glycerine. Worked out very well for me.
Interesting trick, it's the first time I hear ... It must be tested!
Yes! The stone won’t absorb so you can also do dish soap or smiths honing oil since it is water soluble. It does take the edge further.
Hi Robert. Where can I get one...???
Ohh man... I think griffinshavinggoods and sharpening supplies carry them still
Hey man, great vid 👍👍do u need to soak the la lune before using it?
You dont

Thanks for the La Lune review. I have been considering this stone. How does this compare to something like an Escher? Thanks!

can you two stone hone with thos?
I wouldn’t recommend it
La lune!
La Lune - interesting! Hi Robert was that slurry on the Gouken 4k made from your diamond plate? Cheers mate.
Yes indeed! Diamond plate is my best friend
I am new to honing. Would you suggest the La Lune as a good beginner finishing stone?
I wouldn’t… no. I think synthetic stones are best fir beginners due to the consistency the offer.
Do you know what grit it is.
Ohh brother... being a natural stone... grit ratings are out of the picture. If i had to give it a rating i would say that it would be a finisher stone from 7-10k range depending on how you finish.
