FISHING FOR WHITE STEENBRAS / HARVESTING AND COOKING BLACK MUSSELS / SOUTH AFRICA

Hey everyone! Here's another fishing adventure that I really enjoyed and hope you do too. Catching this beautiful species is always exciting, the beautiful White Steenbras, they need to be 60cm to keep and 1/person per day. Good to see you on the rocks - beautiful steenbras caught!
Here in UK they call that sinker setup a 'rotten bottom' - basically the sinker rigged to a much weaker line.
I love black mussel - both smoked and steamed in white wine and garlic.

What's your thoughts on the daiwa ag 6000 spinning reel? I'm thinking of buying me that for surf fishing.

It's a good reel, and I have no issues with it. It all depends on the species you are targeting. For large species you might be putting some strain on it but if you play it well you shouldn't have a problem. 🎣🎣

@Itznobody_ well the biggest I managed to catch was a 68cm Steenbras. Just had to play him well. It depends on the distance as well, if you cast far it takes more reel ins than a 8000 or 9000 because of the smaller spool🎣🎣

I don't think you know how to measure a fish: You measure it from the nose to the fork of the tail, not the tip of the tail

FYI - Total Length is measured from the most forward point of the head, with the mouth closed, to the farthest tip of the tail with the tail compressed or squeezed, while the fish is lying on its side.
EDIBLES: For the purposes of SIZE LIMITS, it's TOTAL LENGTH that counts.
If you want to do the ORI or SASAA length to weight conversions, then if your fish has a forked tail, then it is FORK LENGTH that counts. No forked tail? Then it's Total length.
But to determine whether a fish is SIZE or not, it's TOTAL LENGTH!
