Yeah, I have been in a situationship before. I just got out of one in December 2022 last year.
To be honest, it was a guy 3 years older than me whom I met at uni in 2019. I got ghosted for 2 and a half years.
Then I made a mistake by responding to his messages when he chose to reconnect with me again in June 2022.
That is where my situation with him became messy because we were only texting (sometimes sexting) but never get to see each other in person like before.
So in the end, we had a fight and cut communication just like that. He was a narcissist so that justifies why I officially cut ties with him since 27th April 2023

Why is commitment scary? I get very upset at people who are afraid of commitment because they are afraid of missing out. It is precisely such mentality that creates problems for society and themselves. Because they're constantly comparing. Comparing their current partner to others, and this mentality will permeate into other aspects of their lives and they'll be comparing their grades, their incomes, their lifestyles, their housing, their cars, their phones etc etc. See where they're going to end up at with this? Whatever or whoever you're comparing, there will always be something or someone better. You'll never be truly happy.
Why is there a need to be afraid of missing out on others? Does your current partner make you happy? Do they accept you for who you are? Can they accept your flaws? Do you generally have more good times than bad with them? It doesn't matter if you're in your 20s or 30s or whatever age. The advantages of settling down earlier, with a compatible partner, is that you both start to do life together, with the strength and union of two, at an earlier age. You tackle life's challenges together earlier, get a flat earlier and be free of your mortgage earlier, have kids earlier and have the energy for them, potentially avoid the higher risks of gene degradation and in-born disabilities in your children born during your younger years, a better chance of having grandchildren and perhaps even great-grandchildren, and many more advantages, too many to list all. If you're still looking out for a better partner, then you shouldn't be in a relationship with your current partner at all. You're just wasting their time and holding them back.

The host + two guys kept the convo real and demonstrate open embrace of life's lessons. Other young people need to get out of the mindset that life is like a textbook with known endings.

I don't feel like becoming exclusive with someone is settling, but building. There is a lot to explore, there can be depth and unexpected things even with only one person.

Personally, I feel the term situationship is what you would call friends with benefits. I think people came up with such a term because they didn't want to be associated with the less desirable vibes of saying that they have a friends with benefits relationship with such and such, so rather than telling people that, "oh, I'm friends with benefits with him/her", it sounds nicer to say, "oh, we're in a situationship". It's just playing with words, if situationship is even a word.

You're right! It's like getting all the benefits without saying I'm needy, so that I'll think better of myself

If you like a person and want commitment, but the other don't and suggest a situationship, have some self respect, talk it out and if no resolution, leave.

I wonder how does a situationship ever get to “love” because you never know when you or the other party is going to walk away. I think love takes time and effort to cultivate. Even in a committed relationship, it may take months for both parties with the same goal in mind to actually slowly learn to actually truly love each other.
