  • Welcome to a very comprehensive guide on how to use the Stanley FatMax S300 Stud Finder.
    Having read many reviews where people are frustrated with the lack of clarity on the Stanley Fatmax S300 Users Guide, I thought I would do my own video to hopefully clear up some of the confusion about how to use this product.
    I've completed tests for everything that the FATMAX was designed to do and even one that it wasn't designed for.
    If you have any questions, please feel free to leave them in the comments section and I'll do my best to answer them.

    Thanks a lot. I read the manual and was still a bit confused, but this video made it so clear. Thanks a lot.

    i'm pretty sure the only thing this studfinder can do reliably is metal finding.
    Because i went and bought another highly rated metal finder today (franklin prosensor t13). And all the locations the fatmax had said were the centre were way off. Also, the fatmax can't do live wire finding worth a damn. It literally says my whole house is a live wire. And yes I did follow calibration procedures exactly.

    Thanks for the video. I got one with cartoon instructions which are pretty useless. Have to find aluminum studs and the icons dont help. One icon is both wood and metal studs and another appears to be just for finding metal. Mine is a little different. 2 buttons on front and 1 on the side.

    Great for finding broken nails in recycled timber before ripping or going through my thicknesser 😁

    I need to know where the stud is to calibrate my stud finder so I can find the stud??? I just want to know where to drill 😭

    Definitely don't waste your money buying one, it is a completely useless piece of kit. You can run over a wall 3 times (apart from constantly saying there is live power) it will find the stud in a different place each time. I am unsure how Stanley could put there name to it, I think Coles Homebrand would be embarrassed selling it !

      I thought I was going insane, that is exactly what I found! Identifying live power the whole time and being totally inconsistent with finding studs was head wrecking. Bloody expensive device, I thought I was using it incorrectly.

    Can you accurately find the edges of the stud with this? I found my ancient one was good at this but I bought the S300 and found it confusing, except finding the centre. I sometimes want to know the width accurately.

    • @JustAwesomeCommercials
      @JustAwesomeCommercials  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Chris. No, the FatMax S300 will only find the centre of the stud. You can buy Stud Finders with horizontal lights that will give you the exact width of the stud. They're not that much more expensive if that's what you need. Cheers.

    Thank you. I could never work out why I couldn't read this device or use it properly...it was me, I hadn't removed the sticker from the front, so obvious, now I just feel foolish!

    Does the stud option detect water pipes or is that just the metal option or do both options detect water pipes as i dont want to drill dead centre through a water pipe?

    • @willnewby5204

      The only thing these pieces of crap can “detect” is a sledge hammer.

    Can it scan through rendered brick walls to detect 240V power supply?

    • @JustAwesomeCommercials
      @JustAwesomeCommercials  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Anthony. I doubt very much that it will be able to scan through brick walls. They are way too dense and too thick. You'd need to buy a much better quality scanner that can scan through that particular surface or a device specific to finding Live AC Power. I've just did a quick Google search for you and couldn't find anything. Can't you search for AC Power from inside instead of outside? That could solve your problem. Best of luck on your project. Cheers.

    Great stuff, Andrew. I just bought one of these and looking at Page 2 of the manual it appears the have mis-labelled the AC tracking Mode indicator and the Metal Scan Node indicator. Am I right?

      Hey Richard. I think you are absolutely correct. I'd have to find my manual, but I do remember noticing something similar. 👍

    Great instructional video. But the device itself is useless.
    It beeps at everything saying there is power... Even an interior door....

    • @JustAwesomeCommercials
      @JustAwesomeCommercials  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Pandamonium. The device is definitely frustrating to use. The Stud Finder needs to be calibrated EACH AND EVERY TIME you use it (as in the moment you let the activation button go, you'll need to recalibrate, even if you're scanning the same surface) which explains why it's finding an electrical signal in a door. I'd advise spending more on a better quality unit if you use it often. Appreciate the comment and best of luck. Cheers.

    • @kateskipworth9092
      @kateskipworth9092 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I find the same thing, goes nuts saying live power over a large area. But I haven't tried calibrating first so will try that

    Probably the 2nd worst stud finder I have ever purchased. The Ryobi stud finder was the worst. While the Franklin has been my last an still the best.

    These things are absolute sh1t!
    I was given one for free and now I am wondering what ever did I do to upset the guy who gave it to me.
    These devices really drag down the Stanley brand, if you dropped one of these from 1m I doubt it would even be able to find gravity and land.
    The best thing you can do with a piece of crap like this is pop it under your car wheel, drive over it, then pour some gasoline on it and set it a blaze.
    Do not buy these, if you have already wasted your money on one, look for the receipt and seek a refund immedially. If you still want the Stanley stud finding experiment just walk around the house with a hammer and smash random holes in your walls. For the optimal Stanley experience drill into some live wires. Am surprised Stanley isn’t facing law suits for bringing such dangerous and unreliable products to the market.

    This is the worst stud finder you can buy completely confusing to operate. Manual was useless and I just want something to turn on put against the wall and find a stud or should I say BEAM which this cannot seem to do without a million operations to perform.
