We ALL went to Marblehead, Massachusetts High School, the year most of us graduated, we all went to the famed Black Flag Paradise show the Summer of 1981(Dez Cadena was singing, only just before DC's Henry 'Garfield' Rollins joined the band)the show that John Belushi was present, the Summer of 1981. That show would launch us into the the then forming original Boston Hardcore scene with SSD(econtrol), etc.
I've been buying thrasher since I was 12 years old, I used to skate, all day every day for the most of my early preteen to teenage years, and honestly those were THEE MOST HAPPIEST DAYS OF MY ENTIRE LIFE, although transworld *cough cough* played a crucial part in it too, THRASHER was the MF shiznit, the Real Deal Holyfield! All due in part to Mr. J. Phelps no doubt, he is probably undeniably one of the most influential inspirations of the history of skateboarding from doing boneless handplants on the street top all the way to the technical backside 50/50 nollie smith grind to darkslide impossible Manuel out new school sh*t. HE WAS THERE FOR IT ALL! The Skate world owes its progressiveness in part to Phelps editorial endeavors of documentary aspects of the sport. God Bless his Spirit, may he be doing slappy's with Jesus playing a dope game of SKATE up in heaven. We are going to miss you bro. Real sh*t. I wanted to ride for CJ, but ended up riding for FTC. Jake was always cool and loved to just talk about skating and you can tell it was his life. I'm not sure why he gets a bad rap. Through him, I met guys like Bryce Kanights and Moe from Thrasher.
