I really like that the creator has had a long-term plan since the beginning. It absolutely shows. There are far less throwaway storylines/episodes and even the twists, while initially shocking, do make sense because they've planted "seeds" along the way.
@@OReily08080 I don't feel like the creator has the whole story planned out from the beginning, and the biggest proof of this in the story of Laurel, aka Randall's biological mother turns out to be alive. That twist didn't make much sense.

And the Laurel storyline didn't surprise me because I found it suspicious that they skirted past her and figured they'd circle back at some point. And even though it felt less relevant that other plot points, it still served a purpose to push Randall forward and reconcile with his past.
My husband passed away around the time that This Is Us aired and I have to honestly say that this show has helped me immensely and I’m going to be so sad to see it end!
It truly is! But... You must pay attention to every line. You cannot miss a beat! I do want to see it again. All at once, episode after episode. Be surprised what you missed, or at least I realize I have. There are some great series out there, but nothing touches this one. I sure hope they change their minds about ending it. The world needs it. So many lessons every episode. 💘🌺
I sort of lowkey expected that Maddison and Kevin won't end up together no matter what and that Kate would either have a divorce and or die based on what we had seen in the flash-forwards in the last seasons, but HELL, THIS WAS STILL A SHOCKER!! Don't know how I feel about it but I am just mad that this season was two episodes less!!
@@peachygal4153 Yes, that was my thought. That transition to Gregory seemed kind of abrupt, albeit it's a few years from now. I suppose they'll give him some back story to flesh him out from just being the sarcastic "I didn't want to hire you blah blah blah" guy.
When we saw the dress at the dress fitting. I knew lol On tv, if they show the future bride in a wedding dress before the wedding, she's not getting married.
When I saw Madison reaction to Kevin's last question, then that night while in bed she's watching alone and for me the doubt started to creep in. Like I know he loves me because I'm the mother of his children, but is he in love with me? So that's my 2 cents. I'm absolutely in love with all of the characters. The will be bittersweet, yet all good things have to have an eventual end.
I think when Toby made the comment about their children it broke something in their relationship. For Kate a man has to measure up to her father as far as loving his children whole heartedly. Jack was a devoted husband and father and Toby wanting to take a job that would keep him away from them proved he wasn't that same kind of man. Kate wants and needs someone who is 100% devoted to them. Just my impression of the characters. I feel like Kate can handle not being his top priority but won't accept the children not being his top priority.

I was soooo shocked! I had to rewatch the ending! I mean when I saw Kate in the wedding dress I figured she and Toby decided to renew their vows and remarry, just like Jack and Rebecca did. I never expected her to marry another guy! Although I do love Chris Geere ever since Jimmy Shive-Overly, it's just such a twist in the plot, how can this happen?

@@n8george It’s not a spoiler. It’s progression in a story. We already know Kate and Toby are having problems. Ever since Jack was born, we’ve seen their relationship slowly go downhill. That’s like asking why they would reveal Jack to be dead in the present. Or Kevin having kids in the future. The show is all about jumping to different points in time and in the end, we mostly likely will not even get to that point to Kate’s second wedding, we just know it’s going to happen. In my opinion, that’s a lot better than simply seeing where we leave our characters in the present at the end of next season. When you finish a TV show, film, or book, you always have to ask “what happened to them after? Now we know. I’m sure we’ll be jumping around to different points in time next season, even more than before, and I’m sure we’ll be seeing Rebecca die in the future which is going to be heartbreaking. We might even get a longer season this time around. Shows like this usually run from 15 to 20 episodes. How about 25? Or 30? We’ve seen the end points, we just have to fill in the blanks, either with the new season or our own head cannon. And I’ve heard rumors that there will be a spin-off of some kind. But who knows, only time will tell.
@@nathanhills336 That's a fair point. I know they jump around a lot but I feel like that's a detail that you'd usually want to have revealed when the season actually drops and not a year before. It wasn't really confirmed what would happen with them until now so I thought it was a strange way to find out personally.
@@n8george it’s not a surprise that they don’t stay together. In flash forwards you see Toby show up to see rebecca at the end and I think it’s Kevin that says thank you for coming. It’s made clear that they aren’t together at that point. Big question is what happens to break them up? I ❤️ this show and can’t stand the thought of it ending. Lol But I’m sure it’ll be bittersweet when it does end.
I couldn’t believe that they got divorced. I had to re-watch that part three times. I’m so sad next season is the final one 😭😭. They better not leave anything out especially with all these pieces of the future in each season and season finale

i honestly miss the old toby, the one that was with kate 100% no questions asked. that toby would be the one to be fully invested in his kids. i wish that katoby would be endgame my heart is breaking for that to maybe not be the reality of what happens. we’ve grown with them since season 1 we’ve been with them through the heartaches and losses also the happy times and how they’ve grown. i’m excited to see what happens but also so so sooo sad for it to be over!
I think when I saw that Toby was texting the girl from the fit club last season and upset about jack being blind I kinda felt like they wouldn’t be forever but then I said to myself, no... they’ll definitely make it their love story was so cute. So this is very shocking.
Plus he hid CrossFit from Kate and lied to her about where he was going. Now with the job in SF without consulting her and putting her on the spot, it would be difficult for any marriage to last.
Toby has always been awful, I’m always shocked when people say they think that awful loveless marriage is “so cute”. I believe Kate will take Madison’s lead and demand love her selfish husband can’t give and she will choose herself.

The more I re-watch the flash forward the more I think maybe it's not exactly what we think. Seems odd that a show that always surprises us would give a major twist ahead of time. Either way it's a fantastic show. Great writing, acting and directing. I will miss this show and the characters so much. I was not too surprised that Kate and Toby didn't make it in the end. The 1st few seasons, Toby was so supportive of Kate, but these last few seasons, we all saw a different side of Toby, the insecurity (not accepting help from Kevin, not even admitting that he had help from his dad with the leaked pipe), hiding his gym buddies from Kate. These things can all add up and can cause division in a household. I'm really looking forward to at least one full episode dedicated to Miguel. I loved how he defended Rebecca to his kids in the Thanksgiving scene and I'm sure it was not easy with the Pearson kids either (ahem... Kevin) so, yea, we're definitely over due a Miguel episode. =)

I agree with Dan Lopez. Love that the creator had this whole story in mind and banked some footage. I was wondering that when we saw the Toby/Kate in SF scenes. Very creative. Love seeing Crissy talk as openly as she can about the show and it's process.
I was shocked at the ending. She will remarry after 5 years? With her boss? Oh boy I will keep thinking about it for weeks lol. I think Kevin will end up with Madiso because 1. They're flirting and playful with each other. 2.She is wearing her mom gift 3. It's last season. That's my take. I feel bad for Miguel in all of the season. He had been sideline far too long and it's almost that he is just there for the plot. I don't feel any love between him and Rebecca and they just feel like....acquaintance? I wanted to see more of his story with her but alas its last season and I wonder if they will be able to explain their story with satisfaction.

Ever since Toby got fit it's like him and Kate dont connect anymore, and he isnt fun and silly like he used to be with her! Plus the way he acted when he found out that his son was blind. I was so sad that Kate and Toby didn't end up together. This was not the ending I was even considering. They were the perfect couple on this show despite all the struggles they went through. RIP Kaoby. Besides that unexpected ending, I have to say loved that wedding dress. Kate totally rocked it.
A perfect couple where the husband has an emotional affair while lying to his wife about where he was going, then he gives up on parenting his son because he isn’t comfortable with his blindness, then he takes a job 8 hours by car away from his family without even talking to his wife about it. I’m glad Kate got away from her spineless awful husband, she has always deserved better!

Uncle Nicky is married?? to whom?? 3. I tried, but couldn't confirm if Madison had a ring on when her and Beth were trying to Kevin out the room. Very looking forward to next season! =)

I loved them but yes Toby has been slightly annoying this season, I understand him wanting a job but he has been lashing out at Kate & rushing to decisions without even discussing with her & seems to be least interested to know about her job. He always had this sneaky side & they have been drifting its quite visible. My only concern is they dont do their final season like GOT and rush it all.

I used to love Toby, but I've hated him for several seasons now. That whole thing with him texting that CrossFit girl behind Kate's back, him dipping out on parenting Jack when he was born because of his blindness (especially after both Jack and Kate almost died when she was giving birth to him), and now him not wanting to stay home with their kids? Toby is selfish, a bad father and a bad husband. The moment that he said to Kate, "I love our kids, but..." and I saw the look on her face, I knew she was finally done with him too. The season finale didn't surprise me at all, I've been waiting for them split up honestly.
Completely agree with this!!! I used to absolutely adore Toby in the earlier seasons but when the texting with CrossFit girl happened and with what’s going on with the kids, my opinion of him changed. I still have a little bit of soft spot for him but nowhere near what it used to be.
Well... you know, not everyone is made to be a stay at home parent even if they do love their children to death. If staying at home is detrimental for their mental health, personal realisation, self esteem etc. isn't it better for the parent to go pursue their career and be in a better shape mentally for their kids and their partner? At that point, sending the kids to daycare if both parents are working are a more viable option. I know in the US a lot of families have at least one parent staying at home but where I live in Canada almost every parent I know send their kids to daycare (Government reimburse most of the fees) Anyway, just my thoughts :)

I was shocked about the ending. But, that said, we saw a clip last season that fast-forwarded to Rebecca's deathbed, when Toby was phoned. It was obvious he and Kate were not physically in the same place. Sad, though, since they were both broken people who seemed to work together. The people complaining about Toby are doing somewhat of a disservice to the writers because I think they have done a good job in showing all sides of how Toby is dealing with his dilemma of raising a child with special needs and feeling as though he's letting down his family by losing his job and struggling to find another one. Yes, the strain definitely has shown negatively on his behavior to the point of not acting like himself (e.g., being so distant at the bachelor party), but I think the writers have been good about giving us valid reasons for the change. And who knows, maybe it's Kate who is the major cause for the breakup. Let's see how it all pans out first. As for Jack and Madison, maybe they'll grow to love one another. We'll all have to stay tuned.
Great points. I think the writers are the greatest. Kate has grown more as a person than Toby in my opinion. Plus remember Toby suffers from depression. Also just like in life some relationships are able to weather the storms and make the union stronger and other relationship don't survive the challenges. This in my opinion is what makes This Is Us so special. It's truly "Us" in all our glory, disappointments, triumphs, marriages, breakups, deaths and births. We love these characters because they are our family, friends and us. I think each one of us have related to one or more of the characters. We see our own insecurities, flaws and our strengths in these characters. This show has hopefully shown us that we are all connected in this beautiful, insane world and we all belong and have our stories to tell.

I don't know... with the context given in the story, Toby didn't consult her about his decision at all. If she knew before the decision was made, the course of a long distance relationship would've probably worked. Plus they just adopted a baby... long distance in this context with no preparation that could've been present has a low chance of lasting imo. Hope this makes sense

Dont' worry about crying, Crissy, I don't think I've watched one episode yet where I haven't cried. Best show ever, with an amazing cast of course. Can't wait for the final season, and yet I don't want it to end, ever.
That wouldn't be the worst idea, but haven't we already seen it? How they came together, got addicted and how it ended? I think the only way to go would be a the next generation, but you can't do a show in the near future like that. It doesn't age well. Like watching demolition man and laughing at their idea of 2032. Or even 1996 since it came out in 1993.
I knew from the start they weren’t going to make it. Toby has stood in Kate’s way from day one and that isn’t how a relationship should be. Plus, a lot of the comments he’s made over the last two seasons have shown he just isn’t a good guy. Example: not wanting a son that is blind. And now in the last episode “ I love our kids but..” I think the reality is he only agreed to be a dad because it is what Kate wanted, but given the choice he never would chose to have children at all.
What about trashing Kate to that other woman who was his "friend" while he was going to the gym, leaving Kate alone to take care of Jack? Geez. Good riddance for Kate.
It appears Toby may be a “good guy” narcissist. He only loves the attention of Kate and how she made him feel but doesn’t want anyone else to have her attention. He just wants to feed his image.
She might be in the car that pulls up to Kevin's house to be with Rebecca. But I'm guessing that they haven't shown her because she's in the process of losing weight. I hope that Miguel is okay.
We saw her get married 5 years into the future. But no, not at Rebecca's deathbed. YET but then when did we see Deja and Annie, just a couple of months ago did they reveal that? when did we see Kevin's daughter" just at last season's finale. Before that we thought he only had a son. when did we see Kevin arrive? AT the season 4 midseason finale. when did we finally find out Randall and Beth stay together? In the season 3 finale. Before that many were sure they would split up. This series only gives us a tiny glimpse at a time.

@@Veon_Ray I have always wondered if future Kate would have a surprise weight loss, but Metz (who I believe has said in interviews she is on a slow weight loss journey) is not that much smaller than when the series began so an older post-weightloss Kate might be another actress. Now that could really rile a lot of fans up and be a controversial decision. Maybe that is a crazy theory but it is something that has crossed my mind a few times over the years.

@@marissamata8941 Same. After he didn't want to be around Jack because of his blindness (because it made him "sad") I could see the red flags. Because of his depression his home became a place that he wanted to avoid and it revealed he mostly wanted to be a provider, not a father.

Putting some pieces together based on other theories. People have said the music teacher is Madison’s brother (her mother has an accent in the flashbacks). In this interview she kind of coy about them getting back together. Maybe they have some hiccups, separate and remarry again. And Kevin is talking to the music teacher like that because that is his brother in law due to Madison.
I like that they have a woman like my mom was on tv. People have learned to care for her and see she's more than a dress size. She's a woman whose beautiful and so likable.
This is Us is the best family show I've seen. There are tears and joys inside the show, of course, found the answers of my life within the show. Hope that the writers won't be too hard on these characters like being realistic but sweet.
Can someone tell me who this host is? Not only was he polite and asking the right questions, he also made sure Kate answered her questions with ease without bombarding her. I loved the respectful banter that gave us a neat glimpse. Bonus, he's cute.
First show that doesn’t have sex or violence it’s absolutely breathtaking I can’t believe it’s ending!! It’s beautiful story. Great actors the writers are amazing!!! It’s so smart the way it goes to the future past. I will cry when this ends. I keep watching the show from the start I watched it like 9 times now. It’s absolutely perfect. I’m so upset it’s ending. It’s helped a lot of people suffering from depression or anxiety divorce. Grieve. It’s unbelievable!!
I saw this, this morning and I cried, but I saw it when it happened. I think they will be very good at co parenting but I am so devastated at seeing this. But I am really hoping it has a great ending. Then when the series comes out on dvd I am getting 4 copies for me, my parents my brother and sister. I know it will be a great ending.

If you go back to season 3 episode 18 when everyone decides to meet up in the future and Randall goes see his mom(who is very old and maybe has dementia) he tell Toby I’m glad you decided to come but we don’t see Katie. So either he said that because Katie had passed or because of the divorce. This should have been a big clue.
Absolutely. The show obviously tries to trick us here and there with misleads but numerous moments have made it without question that they would be divorced. Like, my first question watching this interview was “has he even watched the show?!” Lol. Knowing what we know, this was still a full on shocker and I LOVE that the writers can do that. So. Good!
He actually said Jack just called, they are on their way. I just really wanted to ignore that lol because that was the most devastating thing to me. I saw it coming but actually SEEING it hit a whole lot different.

I really like that the creator has had a long-term plan since the beginning. It absolutely shows. There are far less throwaway storylines/episodes and even the twists, while initially shocking, do make sense because they've planted "seeds" along the way.

And the Laurel storyline didn't surprise me because I found it suspicious that they skirted past her and figured they'd circle back at some point. And even though it felt less relevant that other plot points, it still served a purpose to push Randall forward and reconcile with his past.
My husband passed away around the time that This Is Us aired and I have to honestly say that this show has helped me immensely and I’m going to be so sad to see it end!

Be surprised what you missed, or at least I realize I have. There are some great series out there, but nothing touches this one. I sure hope they change their minds about ending it. When I saw Madison reaction to Kevin's last question, then that night while in bed she's watching alone and for me the doubt started to creep in. Like I know he loves me because I'm the mother of his children, but is he in love with me? So that's my 2 cents. I'm absolutely in love with all of the characters. The will be bittersweet, yet all good things have to have an eventual end.
I think when Toby made the comment about their children it broke something in their relationship. For Kate a man has to measure up to her father as far as loving his children whole heartedly. Jack was a devoted husband and father and Toby wanting to take a job that would keep him away from them proved he wasn't that same kind of man. Kate wants and needs someone who is 100% devoted to them. Just my impression of the characters. I feel like Kate can handle not being his top priority but won't accept the children not being his top priority.

I was soooo shocked! I had to rewatch the ending! I mean when I saw Kate in the wedding dress I figured she and Toby decided to renew their vows and remarry, just like Jack and Rebecca did. I never expected her to marry another guy! Although I do love Chris Geere ever since Jimmy Shive-Overly, it's just such a twist in the plot, how can this happen?

@@n8george It’s not a spoiler. It’s progression in a story. We already know Kate and Toby are having problems. Ever since Jack was born, we’ve seen their relationship slowly go downhill. That’s like asking why they would reveal Jack to be dead in the present. Or Kevin having kids in the future. The show is all about jumping to different points in time and in the end, we mostly likely will not even get to that point to Kate’s second wedding, we just know it’s going to happen. In my opinion, that’s a lot better than simply seeing where we leave our characters in the present at the end of next season. When you finish a TV show, film, or book, you always have to ask “what happened to them after? Now we know. I’m sure we’ll be jumping around to different points in time next season, even more than before, and I’m sure we’ll be seeing Rebecca die in the future which is going to be heartbreaking. We might even get a longer season this time around. Shows like this usually run from 15 to 20 episodes. How about 25? Or 30? We’ve seen the end points, we just have to fill in the blanks, either with the new season or our own head cannon. And I’ve heard rumors that there will be a spin-off of some kind. But who knows, only time will tell.

It wasn't really confirmed what would happen with them until now so I thought it was a strange way to find out personally.
@@n8george it’s not a surprise that they don’t stay together. In flash forwards you see Toby show up to see rebecca at the end and I think it’s Kevin that says thank you for coming. It’s made clear that they aren’t together at that point. Big question is what happens to break them up? I ❤️ this show and can’t stand the thought of it ending. Lol But I’m sure it’ll be bittersweet when it does end.

i honestly miss the old toby, the one that was with kate 100% no questions asked. that toby would be the one to be fully invested in his kids. i wish that katoby would be endgame my heart is breaking for that to maybe not be the reality of what happens. we’ve grown with them since season 1 we’ve been with them through the heartaches and losses also the happy times and how they’ve grown. i’m excited to see what happens but also so so sooo sad for it to be over!
I think when I saw that Toby was texting the girl from the fit club last season and upset about jack being blind I kinda felt like they wouldn’t be forever but then I said to myself, no... they’ll definitely make it their love story was so cute. So this is very shocking.
Plus he hid CrossFit from Kate and lied to her about where he was going. Now with the job in SF without consulting her and putting her on the spot, it would be difficult for any marriage to last.
Toby has always been awful, I’m always shocked when people say they think that awful loveless marriage is “so cute”. I believe Kate will take Madison’s lead and demand love her selfish husband can’t give and she will choose herself.

The more I re-watch the flash forward the more I think maybe it's not exactly what we think. Seems odd that a show that always surprises us would give a major twist ahead of time. Either way it's a fantastic show. Great writing, acting and directing. I will miss this show and the characters so much. I was not too surprised that Kate and Toby didn't make it in the end. The 1st few seasons, Toby was so supportive of Kate, but these last few seasons, we all saw a different side of Toby, the insecurity (not accepting help from Kevin, not even admitting that he had help from his dad with the leaked pipe), hiding his gym buddies from Kate. These things can all add up and can cause division in a household.
I'm really looking forward to at least one full episode dedicated to Miguel. I loved how he defended Rebecca to his kids in the Thanksgiving scene and I'm sure it was not easy with the Pearson kids either (ahem... Kevin) so, yea, we're definitely over due a Miguel episode. =)

I wanted to see more of his story with her but alas its last season and I wonder if they will be able to explain their story with satisfaction.

I was so sad that Kate and Toby didn't end up together. This was not the ending I was even considering. They were the perfect couple on this show despite all the struggles they went through. RIP Kaoby. Besides that unexpected ending, I have to say loved that wedding dress. Kate totally rocked it.
A perfect couple where the husband has an emotional affair while lying to his wife about where he was going, then he gives up on parenting his son because he isn’t comfortable with his blindness, then he takes a job 8 hours by car away from his family without even talking to his wife about it. I used to love Toby, but I've hated him for several seasons now. That whole thing with him texting that CrossFit girl behind Kate's back, him dipping out on parenting Jack when he was born because of his blindness (especially after both Jack and Kate almost died when she was giving birth to him), and now him not wanting to stay home with their kids? Toby is selfish, a bad father and a bad husband.
The moment that he said to Kate, "I love our kids, but..." and I saw the look on her face, I knew she was finally done with him too.
The season finale didn't surprise me at all, I've been waiting for them split up honestly.
Completely agree with this!!! I used to absolutely adore Toby in the earlier seasons but when the texting with CrossFit girl happened and with what’s going on with the kids, my opinion of him changed. I still have a little bit of soft spot for him but nowhere near what it used to be.

Well... you know, not everyone is made to be a stay at home parent even if they do love their children to death. If staying at home is detrimental for their mental health, personal realisation, self esteem etc. isn't it better for the parent to go pursue their career and be in a better shape mentally for their kids and their partner? At that point, sending the kids to daycare if both parents are working are a more viable option. I know in the US a lot of families have at least one parent staying at home but where I live in Canada almost every parent I know send their kids to daycare (Government reimburse most of the fees) Anyway, just my thoughts :)
Poor Toby though - second failed marriage. But at least we see that he is still part of the family in the long-term future.

I was shocked about the ending. But, that said, we saw a clip last season that fast-forwarded to Rebecca's deathbed, when Toby was phoned. It was obvious he and Kate were not physically in the same place. Sad, though, since they were both broken people who seemed to work together. The people complaining about Toby are doing somewhat of a disservice to the writers because I think they have done a good job in showing all sides of how Toby is dealing with his dilemma of raising a child with special needs and feeling as though he's letting down his family by losing his job and struggling to find another one. Yes, the strain definitely has shown negatively on his behavior to the point of not acting like himself (e.g., being so distant at the bachelor party), but I think the writers have been good about giving us valid reasons for the change. And who knows, maybe it's Kate who is the major cause for the breakup. Let's see how it all pans out first. As for Jack and Madison, maybe they'll grow to love one another. We'll all have to stay tuned.

Great points. I think the writers are the greatest. Kate has grown more as a person than Toby in my opinion. Plus remember Toby suffers from depression. Also just like in life some relationships are able to weather the storms and make the union stronger and other relationship don't survive the challenges. This in my opinion is what makes This Is Us so special. It's truly "Us" in all our glory, disappointments, triumphs, marriages, breakups, deaths and births. We love these characters because they are our family, friends and us. I think each one of us have related to one or more of the characters. We see our own insecurities, flaws and our strengths in these characters. This show has hopefully shown us that we are all connected in this beautiful, insane world and we all belong and have our stories to tell.

I don't know... with the context given in the story, Toby didn't consult her about his decision at all. If she knew before the decision was made, the course of a long distance relationship would've probably worked. Plus they just adopted a baby... long distance in this context with no preparation that could've been present has a low chance of lasting imo. Hope this makes sense

I’ve actually sort of given up on it once I found out for sure Kate and Toby aren’t going to make it. I think it’s a cop-out. First the ridiculously fast and easy adoption and now this couple splitting up. I’m over it.

Dont' worry about crying, Crissy, I don't think I've watched one episode yet where I haven't cried. Best show ever, with an amazing cast of course. Can't wait for the final season, and yet I don't want it to end, ever.

That wouldn't be the worst idea, but haven't we already seen it? How they came together, got addicted and how it ended?
I think the only way to go would be a the next generation, but you can't do a show in the near future like that. It doesn't age well. Like watching demolition man and laughing at their idea of 2032. Or even 1996 since it came out in 1993.

This is one of the few good primetime tv shows that is pure quality.
I DO NOT want this series to end. I so see it running a few more years. This is a AWESOME series, with incredible acting.
I knew from the start they weren’t going to make it. Toby has stood in Kate’s way from day one and that isn’t how a relationship should be. Plus, a lot of the comments he’s made over the last two seasons have shown he just isn’t a good guy. Example: not wanting a son that is blind. And now in the last episode “ I love our kids but..” I think the reality is he only agreed to be a dad because it is what Kate wanted, but given the choice he never would chose to have children at all.
What about trashing Kate to that other woman who was his "friend" while he was going to the gym, leaving Kate alone to take care of Jack? Geez. Good riddance for Kate.

It appears Toby may be a “good guy” narcissist. He only loves the attention of Kate and how she made him feel but doesn’t want anyone else to have her attention. He just wants to feed his image.
For me it was that scene arguing about the groceries in the back of the car that did it for me.

Right?! No future Kate, Miguel, or Madison! Or possibly even Sophie. Just never know with this show lol

We saw her get married 5 years into the future. But no, not at Rebecca's deathbed. YET but then when did we see Deja and Annie, just a couple of months ago did they reveal that? when did we see Kevin's daughter" just at last season's finale. Before that we thought he only had a son. when did we see Kevin arrive? AT the season 4 midseason finale. when did we finally find out Randall and Beth stay together? In the season 3 finale. Before that many were sure they would split up. This series only gives us a tiny glimpse at a time.

Yup. Finale was sad but the brief glimpse of Toby around the time of Rebecca's (presumable) death bed gathering was telling. He was shown all by himself and like he was not doing well, as I recall.

@@Veon_Ray I have always wondered if future Kate would have a surprise weight loss, but Metz (who I believe has said in interviews she is on a slow weight loss journey) is not that much smaller than when the series began so an older post-weightloss Kate might be another actress. Now that could really rile a lot of fans up and be a controversial decision. Maybe that is a crazy theory but it is something that has crossed my mind a few times over the years.

If everyone else is around for important events, like her son (baby Jack as an adult) having his first child or the final days of her mother's life, and she's not around...she's probably no longer with us.
But it's illogical to think it's because they are "waiting for the actress to lose wait" or that they would even consider "replacing her with a smaller actress"...just... because.

But it did cross my mind because way back in season 1 there was talk in interviews about plans for a Kate weight loss journey to play a significant part in future seasons --and when they started doing more timeline jumps and twists I sometimes wondered if they would do a big casting shake up like that. Honestly, when they resurrected Laurel I kinda thought was a jump the shark moment and a bit of a cheap stunt. However, yes I think it more likely that Kate may not be alive in the future. 😭😭😭

@@marissamata8941 Same. After he didn't want to be around Jack because of his blindness (because it made him "sad") I could see the red flags. Because of his depression his home became a place that he wanted to avoid and it revealed he mostly wanted to be a provider, not a father.

Putting some pieces together based on other theories. People have said the music teacher is Madison’s brother (her mother has an accent in the flashbacks). In this interview she kind of coy about them getting back together. Maybe they have some hiccups, separate and remarry again. And Kevin is talking to the music teacher like that because that is his brother in law due to Madison.

I like that they have a woman like my mom was on tv. People have learned to care for her and see she's more than a dress size. She's a woman whose beautiful and so likable.
This is Us is the best family show I've seen. There are tears and joys inside the show, of course, found the answers of my life within the show. Hope that the writers won't be too hard on these characters like being realistic but sweet.

Can someone tell me who this host is? Not only was he polite and asking the right questions, he also made sure Kate answered her questions with ease without bombarding her. I loved the respectful banter that gave us a neat glimpse.

First show that doesn’t have sex or violence it’s absolutely breathtaking I can’t believe it’s ending!! It’s beautiful story. Great actors the writers are amazing!!! It’s so smart the way it goes to the future past. I will cry when this ends. I keep watching the show from the start I watched it like 9 times now. It’s absolutely perfect. I’m so upset it’s ending. It’s helped a lot of people suffering from depression or anxiety divorce. Grieve. It’s unbelievable!!
I saw this, this morning and I cried, but I saw it when it happened. I think they will be very good at co parenting but I am so devastated at seeing this. But I am really hoping it has a great ending. Then when the series comes out on dvd I am getting 4 copies for me, my parents my brother and sister. I know it will be a great ending.

If you go back to season 3 episode 18 when everyone decides to meet up in the future and Randall goes see his mom(who is very old and maybe has dementia) he tell Toby I’m glad you decided to come but we don’t see Katie. So either he said that because Katie had passed or because of the divorce. This should have been a big clue.

Absolutely. The show obviously tries to trick us here and there with misleads but numerous moments have made it without question that they would be divorced. Like, my first question watching this interview was “has he even watched the show?!” Lol. Knowing what we know, this was still a full on shocker and I LOVE that the writers can do that. So. Good!
He actually said Jack just called, they are on their way. I just really wanted to ignore that lol because that was the most devastating thing to me. I saw it coming but actually SEEING it hit a whole lot different.
Mandy Moore in the aftershow said 2 years ago right after we saw that scene that Kate and Toby would divorce in the future.
Mandy said in the This Is Us after show way back then 3 years ago, that they would divorce in the future, but people decided Kate would die, even though Toby did not have Jack Damon with him and surely, he would have if he was the only surviving parent. After all, Rebecca IS Jack's grandmother.
