- Wha Gwarn People Dem! Come along and watch with me as I react to this 'In-Sentional' and BREATH TAKING performance of 'Fake Monk' from Hua Chenyu from The Singer 2018!
I started reacting to both Jessie J and Hua Chenyu competing on the 2018 Chinese Singing competition (The Singer) a few months ago. As usual, I got distracted with other reactions and hadn't finished reacting to this series... but then one of you beautiful lot advised me that FAOUZIA AND CHANTE MOORE were performing on this year's series of The Singer, so I HAD to finish this before reacting to those!
This was such a brilliant performance - I was almost certain there was nothing that Jessie could have done that week with 'Ain't No Mountain Hight Enough' that would have topped this for me...
... and then I reacted to Jessie J singing 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' 😅❤️

Obsessed since finding him a couple weeks ago. His expression of emotions is incredible. He commands the stage with his presence. Cried and cried at this one.
His sunrise concert had me entranced for 3+ hours. To have been there is hard to imagine the emotions.

This performance is so captivating. I have seen it countless times and it never gets boring. So good. 😮
He had a short interview before the performance, and after the show, he said that this song reflects his struggles in life, torn between wanting someone to love him and fearing rejection and hurt. It's like a monk who both wants to detach from the world and yet yearns for its beauty. It was truly a fantastic performance.
Hua Chenyu said, "Actually, each song I sang in Singer 2018 reflects a different mountain in the uphill battle of personal growth."

"Child" => My growth;
"Nunchucks" => My stubbornness;
"I Don't Care" => My indifference;
"Flammable and Explosive" => The world's conflicting expectations of me, What do you want from me?
"Wayfarer"(AKA Mountain & Sea) => My disappointment after opening up to the world;
"Fake Monk" => Self-struggle, self-redemption;
"Ordinary Path" => Clenching my teeth to face myself;
"I Am What I Am" => Finding myself.
The last song, after I have scaled to the mountaintop, is "Shout" => surpassing myself.

Pain as art! I must have seen this performance over one hundred times and still feel utterly devastated by it. Omg, the loneliness in those long high wails, as we all collectively forget to breathe!

The audience holding their breathes during this performance, reflects what I was doing first time I saw this performance. He is not just a singer. But a performer of the song. He is a combination of Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, George Michael and... Elton John. 😂 For me.. Hua Hua is the best all round Composer, singer, Instrumentalist, Performer on the Planet. And I say that as a Brit.

Haunting is a great way to put it. This performance gives me chills it is so good. Lyrically it is about someone coping with the loneliness of their existence. Wanting to be known as a person but not noticed by society. In the lead up to the performance he talks about how he grew up without much parental care or affection. He was incredibly lonely as a child and felt unloved.

The Singer Competition was the best, I miss those days. So many great artists and so many incredible performances. Jesse J became aware of the show in 2016 when somebody sent her a video of CoCo Lee doing Price Tag in 2016. When the show called her in 2018 to be a part of the show, she was like h3ll yeah! Another must-see artist from the show, GEM 2014, If I Were a Boy and Fallin' are amazing. Dimash 2017, CoCo Lee 2016.
