Was just thinking of this scene, "You made her so happy" I could watch this over and over again one of my all time favs. Perfect cast and acting, beautiful story and the soundtrack gets me every time.
I look at it from Ian's point of view. He was just a background player in the "grand tragic" romance between Dexter and Emma........and that really stinks. No one should be treated as a consolation prize, yet Ian was. In reality, Dexter and Emma weren't good people. They deserved each other. Glad Ian found someone right for him and had his own family, but he can't get back the years he wasted on Emma.
500 Days of Summer is my favorite movie but One Day is up there. Watching the Netflix series now and while I’m enjoying it, Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess is the better Emma and Dex.
@@jefft293I like the Netflix series better... the chemistry was really good! I haven't seen the movie, but just watching this clip after seeing the series was extremely awkward
i would say its the most heart touching movie for me ever and i have seen it so 2,3 times now still come back to watch some of its scenes ,simply a romantic masterpiece for me.
I like how Ian had the maturity to say there is no need to swap numbers or keep in touch, and their lives will go on their separate ways. There is a truth to that. People say keep in touch and swap numbers, but you know it won't happen, and sometimes it's better just to accept that and move on.
Ian KNEW that Dex would call him. Ian has lived the Emma and Dex Day thing. Ian knows that Dex needs to keep that between him and Emma. Ian knows Dex better than he knows himself.
Ian was the better man. He moved on , found someone right for him, not just hanging on to him while what she really wanted was unavailable. Ian knew his own self worth, good for him. He has no need to stay in touch with Dexter, he's rightfully done with that wasted time of his life.
There's something so realistic abt this narrative that I still consider it one of my favourite movies :) I've read the novel but the director's take is the best. Book doesn't hold a candle to the movie in comparison. Bravo, to the lady director & script writer 🥰😍🤩
After watching this one piece from the film, which I had not heard of until now (Saturday 7 August 2021), I became Thumbs-Up #27 and know that I NEED to see the entire film.
I really love this movie, but I think it would have been a masterpiece if Emma didn’t die in the accident but was tragically injured and Dexter became the man who brought her spirt back to life. Idk, maybe an alternate ending I always imagine.
I liked the TV show better because it's closer to the book. But the only issue I had with it was that it didn't feel like 1988-2007, it felt like it was set in 2019 or something, probably the colour grading.
@@losingneverland2891 Yes, it didn't feel like the 90s, I don't know how to explain it. Like Stranger Things, you can feel the 80s atmosphere, even if I didn't exist in the 80s, it felt like that because of the similarities it had with actual films that were shot in that time. For One Day, every moment felt like someone is going to take a smartphone out of their pocket, or put on some airpods. 😂
It’s so sad. It’s not fair and she did not deserve that. But in the end she got her Dexter. She got the man she lived even if it was for a little while. She protected his heart!
Ian deserved better. Meanwhile Emma and Dexter were awful , had zero in common, and it was merely the artificial tension of being apart that fueled their mythologizing of each other.
I saw the Netflix series and liked it, and I've just seen this film and liked it too. I think it was unfairly panned. And what was wrong with Hathaway's accent? She sounded exactly like an educated Yorkshire woman.
I am thinking what was the real version of coming home after saying "finish what we started, maybe it is written in book? Because it is not clear to me in this movie.
Oh God, I can't wait to watch this movie with my girlfriend, correction...My wife, cuddled up together on the bed, my arms stroking her hair as I reach a state of euphoria.
am i the only who thought neither person was any good? they both used other people while they played out their lame "tragic" romance. and its a silly cliche story, she's the "nerdy" working class girl hoping to do good in the world and he's the wealthy charming good looking brat. they have zero in common. its just the artificial tension of not being together leading them to mythologize each other. I can understand why she liked him, he was good looking and fun - but that fun was rooted in toxic behavior. but why would he be interested in her? she's good looking but boring.
I think that both characters are as good as they can be. They both portray humanity, not perfection. It's just two people from different backgrounds that, for some reason, fall for each other. Isn't every love story like that? Love's not hard science. Guess when it happens, it happens.
No offence but Emma is a pick me. Why would you wait on anyone especially a man. Never wait on a man. He is literally manipulating her and leading her on. How is that romantic lol
But he was not a nice man. His heart is so dark. And he made fun of her as well. And as well as behind her back too. With his friends. They were never truly in love, or trusted each other at all ? He humiliated her a lot... by his actions. And then he only ever showed her the "sad" side... of "I cannot live without you".... thing. She made him laugh, cos she was dumb.....so.... and of course, he only ever gets to be angry at her, for not reciprocating or getting him. When in reality, they never went through thick and thin. Even his daughter said the most honest thing..."you know what you are". Was this movie from 2010 ???.... It was an old movie, wasn't it ? A very very old one.... Nothing changes over the years. The women always get to be used. Even despite we have voting.
They both kept choosing to be with people they did not like. I haven’t seen the movie, but I saw the series and wondered if it came across the same in all versions. What strange behavior to romanticize.
I saw that movie. I remember someone dying but couldn't remember which one it was. I thought it was him. I usually like Anne Hathaway but this one was just a so so movie. it's a shame it ended so shitty.

The look on Dexter’s face as soon as he told him “she lit up with you”. Gah. Jim Sturgess is the king of subtle acting
she made you decent and in return you made her so happy. wow
This movie has stayed with me for a decade and would still and forever be my fav movie, my heart still aches, it is so beautiful and sad

Mee!!! How did I not know this was also a movie? With freaking Anna Hathaway!
I like the movie much better than the series. I feel like these two have so much more chemistry.
Same here
The fight scene was so forgettable in the series AND they left out one of the most memorable line in the book during that scene.
