The first supernatural Ghost Rider is stunt motorcyclist Johnny Blaze, who sold his soul, to save the life of his foster father, agrees to give his soul to "Satan" (later revealed to be an arch-demon named Mephisto). At night and when around evil, Blaze finds his flesh consumed by hellfire, causing his head to become a flaming skull. He rides a fiery motorcycle and wields blasts of hellfire from his body, usually from his skeletal hands. He eventually learns he has been bonded with the demon Zarathos.

I think this is one of the things where the rules change with the writer. Deadpool for example is so insane that the penance stare makes him experience a clip show of his greatest achievements, the punisher is unaffected because he completely believes every person he killed deserved it, and with captain Marvel they just had to have her win so she literally just says she's tired of feeling guilty for her mistakes and shrugs it off 😮‍💨
