    you get an even better effect by turning the auto make up gain off

    Thank you, I love lots of reverb, but the downside (back pushing) was limmiting my use of it.
    Now I understand. Thanks to you 🎸👍

    Thats a really interesting way of doing it. never thought of that before.
    For me i find adjuysting the predelay can also help bring forward/move things back. or adjusting the amount of ER if the reverb has ER control.
    need to try this
    Did you get any nice plugins during black friday? treated my self to waves silver pack after deming some of there pkugins. R vox is such a nice warm compressor

      +vedasticks I find this to more dramatic at crafting a hole for everything to be heard clearer. The PuigTec would be the one to get if it is still available...!!!

    Really cool and clean sounding! I just got reaper ... how did you get your interface like that on the bottom half of the screen? and whats all that dragging into auxiliary you say? In my reaper I simply add FX to each track that is set up horizontally.. drop me some knowledge plzz

    • @OptomodMix
      @OptomodMix  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Reaper is very customisable :) I am taking a send from one channel (aux send - as analogue days) to feed the input of the other (the one with the effects) as opposed to affecting each original channel signal. Just makes things more manageable and easier to tweek later. Think of the other channel as your FX or Reverb return back into the console, to mix in with dry track. happy mixing

  • @lanceraustin
    @lanceraustin 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I can't quite see how you have each track set up. Which fx go where. I THINK I'm following your advice, yet I am getting no signal in my reverb track. I am able to sidechain when there is media in each track (ie: audio files). I suspect I am experiencing some kind of routing issue. Wish your video contained more detailed explanation of what you are doing, and visual clarity..

    • @OptomodMix
      @OptomodMix  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Drag the I/O button, to get the patch lead from the source track to the new reverb track, as a new send. Set up your desired reverb. Mix in to taste. Place Reacomp first in the chain of the reverb channel. Not all presets work but I use NY mix buss preset and adjust parameters. Set the Input source to aux on Reacomp. Drag the I/O from the source track again onto Reacomp to create the sidechain input to drive the compression.

    • @OptomodMix
      @OptomodMix  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I apologise for the lack clarity, hope the explanation fills some gaps, happy mixing :)

    • @lanceraustin
      @lanceraustin 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow- I think I got it! What finally did it was your advice to drag the source I/O AGAIN, this time onto the receive track's Reacomp. I see this creates a second send from the source. The first send is from 1/2 to 1/2, and the other send is from 1/2 to 3/4. Does this sound right?

  • @JTguitarlessons
    @JTguitarlessons 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just one thing... I know this tutorial was a while ago, but why in the world would you use the make-up gain feature when you're using the compressor for ducking? That doesn't make functional sense, my man lol. Otherwise, great tutorial!

  • @mrsockmonkey1969
    @mrsockmonkey1969 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I get better results if I make a second send and assign it's output to 3/4 then set the compressor to auxiliary L+R input.

    My question I guess is how do I make sure the lead is controlling the delay and reverb bus just by sending or what else to do?

    • @OptomodMix
      @OptomodMix  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes when you drag the lead over and have ReaComp set to AUX (side chain) that is what it will do. Yo can also use the preview tick box to here how that signal is effecting that track, like Side Chain listen button.

    When you're dragging the lead vox to the compression is that how it controls it?

  • @LardGargantuus
    @LardGargantuus 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm still having trouble with this. I'm a good musician and a good mixer but I'm too dumb/inexperienced to figure out the routing. If someone knows if theres a blank project file online with the fx and routing setup I'd appreciate it. I use acon digital reverb from reverb.com if it matters.

    • @OptomodMix

    • @LardGargantuus
      @LardGargantuus 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OptomodMix I don't like the drag and drop approach because it automates several tasks/routes at once so if your setup is different there might be a glitch that screws the entire thing up. I'll give it a shot

    I’m sorry, I don’t mean to be overly critical, but this video is simply not clear. You’re missing major parts of what you’re doing out and that’s why dozens of people are confused about it, please think about the way you’re presenting stuff it actually makes it much more complicated than it needs to be.
