I really like this way of starting a base-you get a nice flat base. I've been teaching myself with on line tutorials etc and turns out I've been reverse twining also! I'm not sure why but starting a weave this way helped me to twine correctly. I recently l istened to your talk through Society of Arts+Crafts and was inspired to keep learning!
Sorry! I don’t know how I missed your comment. There isn’t a straight forward answer, it depends on the thickness of the materials you are weaving with. It takes some experimentation to get the feel of it but you want your spokes about 2 thicknesses of the weaver apart when you split the bundle.

I think it would have been a good idea to use more contrasting colors so we could better see what you are doing...especially beginners.
How many rows have you roughly done of each bundle of spokes then 4 until you've started to twine singles? Thanks so much
