There are a number of reasons why I never covered this group in the past. The main one being that they aren’t really a faction at all.
As the name suggests, they’re really just Rioters… civilians that have chosen a lawless path in order to survive.
A large number of them were simply just put in the situation where they didn’t have a choice… where others are small street gangs who have decided to use this opportunity to bolster their ranks, and take more for themselves, while law enforcement has been crippled.

That one found footage of those Rioters attacking those two civilians is still gives me chills. Those two were just minding their own business, but that pack just slaughtered them for no reason.
it is a dark truth about what may happen to certain people once law is no longer a factor in their life. With thoughts of no consequences for their action or to be judged by society as a whole, certain people will give into their darker nature because there is nothing keeping them mentally from giving into it unless they themselves see it as wrong.

Alex has to be the most common name that the rioters have and thank you for covering factions even if the rioters are not really faction just lawless citizens. Also I do like their funny recordings. Great content

There is dialogue where some people (I think Agents) discuss an "Alex" giving them trouble. They describe multiple people and conclude that there was more than one.
I miss the rioters. As small as they were, I still found them to be a fun and the most realistic faction in the division universe. Was kinda upset they didn't make it in to the division 2 with WoNY but that was to be expected. Anyway loved the video. Keep making great content and I can't wait to see what you got for us next.

I always found it odd that in Division 2, there weren't as many of those 'seperated individuals' like you do in Division 1. Yeah, they're still there but not nearly in the numbers that we see in Div 1. Another awesome video my friend....thanks for the early New Year gift!

Maybe a lot of them died by the time of division 2 by the virus, agents or the other factions
@@user-Jay178 this is the most likely reason. They don't have the tech to take care of their sick/serious wounded, don't have the tech against the other major factions (even the Cleaners, with their fire weaponry), and aren't even organized
I always figured most either joined in with the Hyenas or become the settlements after the bulk of their members realized that they wouldn’t survive the way that had been previously going.

Another amazing video from the King of The Division Lore. The rioters did eventually get their hands on a few good weapons. Lastly me being a New Yorker, Im here to say Alex is definitely not a popular name in New York City.
I've come to remember that a few years ago when the commendations were just being released on the first Division game, there was a Rioter kill challenge that was called "They got Alex"

I used to love their outfits so much back in the day and tbh I still do.

I assume that as time passes, the rioter numbers slowly dwindled during Division 2. It’s also why they just don’t appear as often in Division 2
Or my personal headcanon. Rioters heard about a gang in Washington (the Hyenas) and decided to join them. It would make sense as the Hyenas are big enough for a council AND they have police gear. Who knows? Maybe the New York Rioters helped give the Hyenas some of the police gear we see the Rushers and Soldiers use
Imagine some of them, somehow, by a shear godly miracle found a way out of the Underground, only for them to realize… We escaped from hell on earth… now what?
I wanna think that rioters still exist but not as a faction per se. If you can recall on NY Div2, there are some enemies that have their faces covered and use bows and trash cans top covers like "shields" giving the impression that they were left with no other armory or resources as what they had back in the day. Even the guy that runs around with a big backpack dropping loot as you shoot him feels could be part of them as well :v

I think Rioters did realize, like a lot of the other factions, is that, sure they aren't organized, nor military train, or resourceful, but man, even they made JTF their pet by just zerg tactic, previous to the Division, of course.
It kinda proof how weak (and trash) can be, even outside of NY

I really like you're take on the Alex callout. Reminds of the phrase Free Masons say when they're in parallel/motto "Where are my brothers". Saw it on a History Channel episode on those guys, apparently some freemason (before freemasons were a thing) was murdered out of greed and he called out for help before he died but no one was around or who cared.

Thanks for another great video NGN 😎, hope you and your family had a nice Christmas and New Year also. I recently started playing The Division again as its been 'that time of year' and I still enjoyed it (apart from the PvP DZ though, its become littered with people blatantly cheating utilising lag switches or something akin to it; if you're going to cheat then what's the point but hey, thats how I think anyway).
Back to the content... There are audio logs that have a dialogue between two agents that discuss a guy named Alex. He was clearly a handful by himself for most opponents of his and physically well built also.
The rioters are most likely to be the common threat globally, and as you say; it'll be a mixed bag of opportunists who think only of themselves irrespective of the cost to others at any time.
Because of that, they are not to be underestimated and will be people from all backgrounds possessing a whole different manner of skills and mindsets. The same 'rioter' you see masked and hooded one night looting and shooting, could be the same person you pass during the following day who is also out looking for supplies but in a much more passive and even friendlier way.
This serves them two purposes:
1 - making connections so the criminal could build up a bigger intelligence picture of the wider area, leading to purpose number two...
2 - reconnaissance for the next raid. A criminal would utilise any 'friendly' environment to gain advantage and if the opportunity presents itself; suddenly turn the switch from passive mode to full violence even in broad daylight to get what they want and escape quickly.
We see people do this today and in years gone by. When law and order completely breaks down, everything turns into a free for all. But from what I've seen in other countries, it's those communities that arm themselves and stand together that are much safer from hordes of unrepentant criminals (even though the criminals themselves will not label themselves as such in order to self justify their own actions).
The reason the Rioters don't appear in the Division 2 beyond those occasional people with bows and arrows or trash lid shields and axes is because most of the ones in the D.C. area have joined the Hyenas by the time the second game takes place, most of the independent gangs will have died off by then, especially with the Hyenas killing any gang that won't join them.
Loved these guys. Secretly this the faction that represents 3/4 of new York City during the outbreak. They can get their hands on pistols, SMGs, RPGs, LMGs. They are smart, survivalists by nature, motivated by threat of starvation, sickness, or death. And I swear on two or three occasions, I've seen a heavy gunner and two pistol guys beat a small LMB patrol consisting of 2 rifleman and a Sniper. How the hell is that possible?
If these guys by their versatility and just sheer numbers, could actually unite like they seemed to do at Madison Square Garden. They would be an army. And any rebellion with enough numbers can overturn even the most powerful PMCs and military units. Guerrilla tactics, hit and run scatter like rats.
2 ways they were let down.
They could have reformed in Division 2 like the rest, but didn't.
Secondly, no leader to speak of and only one standout mission where they posed a storyline threat.
Division 2. Here's an idea. Give us a rioter hero, a leader who wants to reach out to those balaclava wearing guys in NYC, give us a new test, a manhunt exclusive to them in New York. Maybe they can be led by former Division 1 first wave missing agent, now turned rogue to help save all those, outgunned by BTSU, cleaners and Rikers.
Hey NGN I rarely comment but I love your content either way. But this has been on my mind for while I wonder if other country's during the dollar flu have something similar to the SHD. Maybe this could be a video idea in the near future. It would probably be hard to find Intel on this but just thought.

You know there is a Audio log from doing the Shield Challenges that gives you rewards in Division 2 where some Division agents talk about killing Alex and how they debated on taking claim on it

Unfortunately I have some bad news. There was a shooting just outside the base of operations between a group of corrupt jtf soldiers and our gang. There was a lot of gun fire. A couple people got hit in the fight. They got Alex. I'm sorry

I only know that the Rioters were replaced by the Raiders in The Division 2 in Warlords Of New York
Make a video hyenas vs rioters it would be interesting regarding loadouts of each factions archetype from Red standard to veteran and elite weapons are almost the same the only difference is at the rioters don't have tanks and medics and shield
Well the battle would be pretty one sided mainly because the hyenas have better equipment. Rioter grenadier has teargas grenade meanwhile hyena grenadier a grenade launcher. The hyenas also have turrets and rc cars. In tactics their is almost no difference it's just that the hyenas are better equipt because of black tusk sending them supplies.
Think about it if the blood test were supplying the true son's whiskey and weapons with the hyenas be carrying right now if they weren't being supplied by then would be fair instead of onesided

Playing The Division now, I will never shoot a Rioter first (even knowing it’s a game and they’re literally programmed to target me). Just too real sometimes.
