    Last time I played my Slimefoot deck my opponent grew very concerned when I said that I was considering putting more creatures on the board in response to her board wipe.

    i’ve had a slimefoot sitting around that i’ve wanted to build but have felt pretty uninspired (having just built a golgari sac deck). this video reinspired me and now i’m going to look into building it. awesome video and amazing recommendations as always, joey!!! i love these vids when i build new decks or adjust older ones.

    Huh, $70 you say? And it's got a decent number of Golgari cards I already have...looks like it might be time for aristocrats deck #2 (if I don't build Zimone and Dina, at least).
    EDIT: Also, I know it doesn't make Saprolings, but if you want to keep the Altar combo in on a budget, Chatterfang basically does the same thing as Doubling Season/Parallel Lives in this deck - pay 4, make a Saproling, make a Squirrel, sac them both to Altar for 4 mana and deal 1 to everyone, do it again and again and again.

      Hey! thinking about making the budget version for my fist every deck (i have a precon but wanna make one). How did the budget one work for you??!

    • @chaffenbake
      @chaffenbake ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rakehen2689 It's a lot of fun, and it's helped me to think more about my position on the board more often, which I'll often forget to do with other decks. By that I mean I'm more consciously puzzling out how big my board is going to get versus how much little guy generation I'm keeping in reserve in my hand, trying to apply just the right amount of pressure.
      Also built a Slimefoot and Squee deck around the same time. Even though they both kind of care about Saprolings people are much quicker to view S&S as a bigger problem because you can just get so much advantage off of a few different combos of cards, so solo Slimefoot had an easier time flying under the radar a bit more.

    I love the inclusion of Evolution Sage over Ashnod's Altar! With Life and Limb and a few spore counter creatures, you basically have another way to combo, and it's more controlled than the one with Sporemound. Nice pick!

    This was my second deck, and I still love it. It turned into a golgari card draw machine,basically playing keen sense/snake umbra on slimefoot (or Konrad), and also playing everything that draws when stuff dies. I kept drawing so many cards that psychosis crawler, jorael, empyrial plate and inner calm, outer strength are legit wincons. It got even better with plumb the forbidden, and I also don't know how I missed the card reprocess for so many years.

      My buddy runs slimefoot and way early on in our playgroup that card would always trounce my mono red Feldon deck! It’s truly fantastic! The incremental yet persistent nature of the card lead me to a lot of interesting plays to try and dodge the effect, since mono red didn’t have much of a way to navigate enchantments beyond the ole chaos warp.

A nothing card I added that I'm starting to like more is thristing roots a awbo green common. 1 green, basic to land to hand or proliferate. Gets a land drop if your missing it or spore up the broad more. My friends are getting keen on killing slimefoot now so tyvar's stand is looking better and better now too.

    TLDR: For sure play earthcraft, seedborn muse, chatterfang, some number of natural order/chord of calling effects, cradle/cofffers/urborg/sylvan scrying package and Perilous Forays.
    I have been playing a Thallid deck since....ohhhhh....1996 or so...Awakening+earthcraft shenanigans for...decades...apparently. Naturally I built an EDH deck with them when the format came around. I started with Rhys, but have recently rolled into Slimefoot...and here is what I can tell you all about our little friend here, assuming you have no eye to budget at least. Note that my deck runs alllll the thallids, so far from optimized, but they still kinda just work out fine.
    Earthcraft is the biggest card in the deck. By FAR. It is not even close. Not even close to close. Cryptolith rite is trash. I could see running it just for redundancy, but really you shouldnt expect your saprolings to not have summoning sickness typically,
    Use some tutor to play effects- natural order and chord of calling are the most synergistic, finale of devastation sometimes just doesnt even need to find craterhoof behemoth to alpha strike people- I run those 3 [and a survival of the fittest]. These tutor effects can sometimes find you verdant force or craterhoof, but if i am being real....90% of the time you just get either...of these guys....
    SEEDBORN MUSE. Slimefoot + seedborn is just game over if they stick for a couple of untaps. Sometimes Chatterfang is your guy though.
    Pitiless Plunderer is a must as well. Works really well with Chatterfang [these 2 plus ashnods altar are quasi infinte colorless+ infinite -1/-1 effects+ infinite death triggers]
    If you have Gaea's Cradle, which you should, you should also play Sylvan scrying AND Coffers+urborg. Usually you sylvan for cradle, but if you have either coffers or urborg already getting the other one gives you a lot more play in getting out again after boardwipes. Slimefoot is totally down for 8 black mana from a coffers, he is less impressed by a cradle tapping for 1-2 mana. If you do this, you should also run Yavimaya as a way of hedging against coffers being dead early game.
    Some honorable mentions- Champion of Lambholt makes your team unblockable- fast. Skullmulcher and Shamanic Revelation are good card draw options. Eldrazi Monument is a very good offensive and defensive card for this style of deck.
    Finally a card that I am actually distraught was not discussed in the video, especially as it really isnt terrifically expensive, at all, oddly.
    Perilous Forays. This card is GAS. Sac outlet, instant speed, and read closely that it gets a land with a basic land TYPE...not a basic land. This lets you run some extra swamp+forest typing duals to help out coffers. Hell, even Witch's Cottage if you feel so inclined [I dont].
    As for the video recommendations- I am very against life and limb. It is a cute combo and all, but a cute combo that often just gets all your land killed is....sketchy at best. The enchantments that go on slimefoot are interesting. I could see those maybe working out well particularly in a less thallid based more aristocrats based leaning. Not hot on most of the instants/sorceries that make Saprolings, outside of Fungal Rebirth and Fungal Plots. The convoke ones are ok as well. Gogari Germination, necrogenisis and Night Soil are just bad. Play Deathrite Shaman instead. Saproling Symbiosis, Saproling MIgration, Fungal Sprouting and SEcond Harvest are all just win-more cards.
    Feel free to dm me for a list anyone!

    • @marknicklason
      @marknicklason ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MeZimm I mean I did state that my recommendations were for non-budget situations. Cradle is one of the highest impact cards available for EDH, and clearly this is the kind of commander where it excels. That said, I think Earthcraft is by far the more important card. Very expensive still yes, but certainly not as much as cradle.

    Gonna respectfully disagree on adding Sakura Tribe Elder to the deck. It is true that you can play it on T2 and then Slimefoot on T3...but then you're only spending 3 of your 4 available mana on that turn. With a 3 mana commander, I think a one drop elf would be a better add so the potential of a T2 Slimefoot would be in play. It is more fragile than the Elder, but it's still a body that can be recurred and the chump blocker later in the game is also nice.

    • @marknicklason
      @marknicklason ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You dont really plan to play slimefoot on 3, other things to play early game. Playing it early just lets it get removed while its really not doing anything yet.
