It sounds like a hot topic! Deep sea mining definitely raises some interesting questions about our oceans' future. What do you think could be the best way to balance resource needs and environmental protection?
@@griheettandra5417 Sure, but usually, the danger is that the oxygen levels in the ocean are not enough. If there’s honestly a concern with too much oxygen, then just dump some biomass into the water along with some bacteria that will consume the biomass and use up the oxygen.
No. Metal mining on earth will become obsolete overnight, but that's not all mining. There are plenty of valuable minerals that cannot be found on asteroids. The whole point of space mining is the access to rare elements (like precious metals), and the lack of a gravity well to get in the way of logistics. More mundane minerals, sedimentary rocks like limestone, require geological processes to form. It will be another big leap to get from mining in space to mining on another planet where such materials can form.
It depends on whether we want to save our forests and deserts, or our oceans. You cant save both, even in a 100% renewables, decreased consumption society.
Why can't they build a harvester that floats above the surface and picks off individual rocks with a robotic arm, taking only half of them, without disturbing the sea floor.
Have to disagree , the real problem is unrestricted use and development of natural resources , especially since they now know that oxygen is produced in these seabed formations ... we desperately need joined up thinking and recycle a hell of a lot more to survive instead of all the unlimited wastes globally. Too many greedy people at the top not being taxed at reasonable scale taking money away from needed infrastructure development just to feed their egos. 😢

The answer is "duh", just look at Dubai palm island where the water still not recovering.
Not to mention the oxygen that these formations provide 😢😢
@@associatedblacksheepandmisfitsProvide? If the formations are providing oxygen into the water, isn’t that actually good for marine life?
@@mechadoggythe ocean has a specific amount of oxygen adding more can be dangerous as well

Once space mining begins will commercial mining be banned from Earth?

Do we need to ask?
Greed must be put on hold permanently nature and the environment is much more important.
It’s common sense. Of course sea life will be harmed. The sea is the last place we need to harm, without its life, there is no life.

Yes, yes it will.
Atleast clean it while your mining 💯

The Rig Season 2, available now!
😜
Yes
Why not replace nodules with rocks?
The nodules have been found to catalyse the production of oxygen
Like Biden or dP Trump f.G would care lol 😂 lame
Duh ..
Gone with those gross-looking things! I want my new phone!
I love u
Better than deforestation

Who cares? Those things are gross looking 🤢
😂
Well your mom still cares about you even with your gross looks
So are most humans and we don’t just go around getting rid of them.
