    What a great tool. Rather than buying the steel you need, brand new, in many caes, recycled or scarp steel is every bit as good, even a lot cheaper. I have a pile of cold drawn tubing, hot rolled angle iron, cold rolled rounds and flats in my barn that was free or almost free.

    On the scaffolding, trying to get on and off the railing ladder, instead of stepping from the floor of the scaffolding over two ladder bars, try this
    Stand with the exit to your right. Holding railing firmly, with your left foot, cross it over your right foot, and place it on the first rail up and leave it at a 45 degree angle...knee bent
    Then simply straighten knee and lift your right leg over the top bar and place it on the lower rail again at a 45 degree angle, then lift your left leg over the rail and place it beside the right leg, then you can climb down.
    Yes its awkward to do, but a bit of practice you will get the hang of it, and it stops trying to get over two bars of the ladder in one go. Love the channel and the content. The house is looking amazing. From Jack and Family from Brisbane Queensland Australia

    Just an idea I have looked at 19ft scissor lifts for sale. They were actually reasonable to buy. They would be for indoor use. You could sell it at the end of the project. It is really a lot easier to work off of. At the end of the day would not be a fall hazard climbing out. It would not be a bad idea to buy some fall protection. Just being able to move freely and extend the platform in some cases. Even on lifts we seem to get crowded with tools at times. I am sure you will find plenty of other uses for it.

    Cut the scaffold wood platform across about 2 feet from end. Put piano or heavy hinges on so you can walk up inside platform. Don’t remember the brand, but worked on set with the hinged floor and it was WAY more comfortable to climb up and down. Reinforce the wood a little, cut a hand hole to lift up from inside, and then you have an internal ladder.

    I work for a John Deere dealer (for 21 years so far) and my only suggestion would be cylinder stops. You could easily make your own by zip tying a piece of angle iron to the cylinder ram when it’s in place. Then if an oring blows, line burst, etc, you down come down faster than you’d like to! Lol

  • @ShaneZettelmier

    Sweet! If it were me I would just cut that top bar out on one side so it’s a smaller step to get in and out. With the rails and all that up there it should be more than strong enough, you would lose one level as far as how high you can raise it but it would be easier to get in and out of.

    Ok, first off Andrew you need a small 10’ rope tied to the top rung of your ladder so you don’t get stranded aloft again. It’s great to tie off to a rafter for safety when working from the ladder as well so it doesn’t shift while you’re up high too!. I worked on poles and ladders my whole career for the phone company.

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The first thing I did was make sure I could climb down the tractor loader or the ladder on the front of the basket should my extension ladder fall. I can easily do both.

    • @charlestravis9798
      @charlestravis9798 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Once I was installing a phone line for Garth Brooks in Nashville (never heard of him then) and I had been throwing a tennis ball with a black lab dog until the ball got too slobbery and I had to string an aerial wire. All of a sudden my ladder started shaking like mad (it was tied off to the pole at the top and middle) & when I looked down, I saw the dog was already 4’ up the ladder and climbing higher! I told that story to Trisha Yearwood later on when I worked on her phone in my home town, when she was singing with Garth (and dating him) and she told me the dog had passed. Yes, I worked on lots of music stars phones in my job. Just make sure an armadillo can’t knock your ladder down while you’re up!

    Hi Andrew,
    I have been looking for your video. You are THE ONLY youtuber who has a video on a diy Scaffold to use specifally on a Tractor!
    I have the JD 1025R & a metal building that is 23' high in center & about 18' high on the edges. My 1025R can only lift my forks 5' high & the opening to my metal doors are only 12'. So I want to build one 11'6" tall so that it will clear as I take it outside my bldg. & am storing back inside. If I connect my box blade in the rear, do u think it will be safe for me to use one 11"6" high + the 5' my tractor can lift? Have you built yours? What is the height on it?

      I borrowed this one, but will be building my own this winter. I have a lot ideas for the next one. I'd be very careful if I were you with that height. Don't go very wide in the platform and keep good ballast on the back of the tractor. That's a very narrow tractor and I'd be very concerned with tipping over. My recommendation would be to NOT do it. Hope this helps

    Lol. I’ve been waiting for 15 years for steel to drop, I think that’s a myth. Go to garage sales or talk to people who do go to garage sales and buy every metal bed frame you can, that’s a ton of angle iron and find scrap yards, you can get fencing and posts and pieces of metal of all kinds, you’d be surprised what people throw away. Also look at old mobile home trailers, a lot of times you can get those for free and they have a ton of steel on them. You can look at craigslist and places selling used stuff and get all kinds of stuff. Another great source is to find companies going out of business and a lot of times they will have shelving and scaffolding and stuff that they leave behind and just let people come and take it for free or sell it off for cheap. Railroad ties you can get as well but the old compress steel it’s too hard to cut and you’ll spend more money cutting it then you would buy a new steel. Lol. Demo companies have stuff like that all the time. You’ll have to clean stuff up and it might not be exactly what you need for pretty stuff but for building farm equipment and racks it’s fine.

      All very good tips for finding some steel, I wish I had a ton of it laying around for projects.

      @@TKCL Yup. Once I got my welder I was grabbing everything I could and just welding it together for the practice. Then you start doing projects and you realize how expensive all this stuff is. Especially when you’re doing four-wheel-drive stuff and buying all that DOM tubing. Ugh.
