To shed some more light on the LA fires, I got an update from some friends this morning who have family in the LA area:
The governor of California specifically set the system up to fail, and, from what my friends told me, he did it on purpose: he emptied massive water storage tanks (into the ocean, I will add) long ago for bogus reasons and refused to refill them, massively cut LAFD funding, gave bogus (and downright wrong) excuses for refusing to clear brush, refused to do controlled burns (even the Native Americans knew centuries ago that controlled burns were absolutely required to keep the wildfires at bay), just a couple days ago vetoed a bill that would bring water in from Canada to fight the fires, and many other things.
Also, in case there was any doubt, only a few of the fires actually started naturally - the rest were arson, but the system there is so messed up to the point that even if the arsonists do get caught (and many have), they get released scott-free - no bail posted - before the fires that they started have even been extinguished. Because of the arson, the police have finally cracked down on who they let back into evacuated neighborhoods, and, depending on the level of evacuation order, some they aren't allowing anyone back into "to get something they forgot" unless those people can prove (I don't know what kind of proof they have to supply) that they actually live in that neighborhood, so my guess (I don't know for sure) is that that's likely the excuse that the arsonists used to get in and set the fires, but even that isn't doing the job because it's apparently a lengthy process to even prove residency in a neighborhood (like I said, I don't know what kind of proof must be supplied when required in this situation).
Basically, assisted by arson, LA is getting what Yellowstone got 40 years ago - fire prevention so extreme that it eventually took only one spark to turn most of the park and parts of the surrounding national forests into a blazing inferno, and Yellowstone is not a small park (3472 sq mi/8991 sq km, and that doesn't include the surrounding sections of national forest that also burned), and, even now, a lot of it has not grown back yet because the fire was so hot that the seeds and roots that were underground got burned up, too. The Yellowstone fire is what changed the Smokey the Bear catchphrase from "only you can prevent forest fires" to "only you can prevent wildfires" - clearing brush and executing controlled burns regularly are no-excuses required to keep Yellowstone-level blazing infernos from happening.
However, a lot of rich people's homes have been burned in the LA fires, so hopefully either the governor will finally get his act together and do something about it, or someone else will take charge and do something. I truly cannot believe that, 40 years later, they STILL haven't learned their lesson from Yellowstone.

It's a shame the clothes are in such dull, muted colours. A bit of pattern or brightness wouldn't go amiss. And it would be nice to see Men's trousers for wheelchair users in a strong fabric other than denim - particularly at the seat and behind the knees.

Agreed. It often the same with many petite clothing ranges too (although not quite to the same extent). Why are adaptive clothing often so BORING. People with disabilities & petite people want nice looking clothing.

      Too much complaining

      @EmilyCheetham 18 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +3

@ if you don’t complain they will never give you what you want. The person made a point and I kind of agree. Also although I don’t need adaptive clothing I sometimes need petite (trousers, or long skirts/dresses, long sleeve blouses) and some brands of petite can be bland and boring too.

I really feel they wanted to make the clothes as accessible as possible for everyone and usually muted colours go with and suit most. But I get your point, the dream would be to have cool, fashionable accessible clothing and not just be forced to dress in basic looking clothes.

As a wheelchair user myself, I would want others to evacuate first, rather than be stuck behind me.

I am in the US and have found a wonderful online store for wheelchair adaptive clothing, IZ Adaptive. This company is from Canada and the designer is amazing. It is a bit pricey but quality is very good. I have been buying my pants from her for a few years now and have never been disappointed. Like others here I wish there was more color. She does clothes for women and men.

I have just looked at the clothing range especially for myself who wears a prosthetic leg, I live in the North East of England County Durham and not one of the primark shops will be doing this range. They are not even doing a click and collect service, so it looks like I will have to wait a little longer, hopefully they will stock it soon.

So sad that any lives were losses. Shame on the transport not coming for the other man I’m not sure what the mother or anyone could have done. She went for help but if there was none? It is heartbreaking if she got back and the house was on fire already. Someone I know in America was close to the fires and had to evacuate temporarily but thankfully they and their home are fine but I feel for all those who lost their homes and/or lives. We need better procedures for the future.

Such a bummer i went looking and Primark is only selling those over seas. I wish they'd sell online. Anything adaptive here is extremely expensive and bad materials😢

It's interesting the Emirates are Autism certified. I travelled with them in the summer as a wheelchair passenger and they were truly awful. I'll not go into detail (there is lots) but my initial complaint fell on deaf ears, The Civil Aviation Authority are getting nowhere so I suspect I will have to get the lawyers involved. I will not fly with them again. They appear to be very good with words but the action is deplorable.

I really hope adaptive clothing becomes more of a priority, especially in more sustainable shops. I haven't bought from Primark in years as the quality was always awful, and at those prices you know they're using slavery. Despite this I will be looking at their adaptive range as a disabled person, because currently there aren't enough places selling them, and we need to send the message that adaptive clothing is needed, wanted, and profitable.

Hey Sweet Lady or if there is a Pt/OT who follows this Lady. I desparately need to chat with you. I need to find a rollator walker that automatically breaks when I stop, I can sit, I can use it automatically and manually if I want exercise or if it breaks down. I want to have a sports back but needs a seatbelt and tilts or the back raises. I have Functional Neurological Disorder. So it also needs to be light weight and compacts. Are there ones that could change from a rollator and a wheelchair possibly. I know this is like very complex design I am looking for. But I am exhausted and need to start conserving my energy more. I didn't know that they should of supplied me with all the mobility devices before I left inpatient. But I became homeless when this bs happen. We didn't know if my temp home would be up or down. Luckily they got that sorted. I also need to have somone draft a nice letter for my landlord to add a ramp and new shower (its a tub and they have yet fixed our shower from when the neighers toilet or tub leaked 18 months ago) and put more bars and a seat. My roomate is also a amputee. Outpatient can't help. And I have to wait 5 years for an upgade or any new one. Its just time for customization as this progressees and prevent a massive flare. Anyways all the best.💕Sarah

Just checked availability of the adaptive clothing range in Penney's (aka Primark in Ireland!). Couldn't find the info on Penneys actual website, but got this list from the Irish Country Magazine, of all places!
"The new collection will be available from Tuesday 28 January in the following stores in the Republic of Ireland:
    Mary Street, Dublin
    Blanchardstown, Dublin
    Dundrum, Dublin
    Liffey Valley, Dublin
    Swords, Dublin
    Wilton Shopping Centre, Cork
    Eyre Square, Galway
    Barronstrand Street, Waterford"
So over half of them are Dublin based.

Gem I don’t think that Yeovil have any stores that stock disabled clothing at the moment, but we have got to go to Yeovil shopping tomorrow so as long as weather isn’t as bad as it is today (Sunday)!! we will go and see if Primark have it yet👨🏻‍🦽?❤️

@@Wheelsnoheels That's why communications - of which transport is part - is the top priority in crisis management, and is where we started in GAD. It's essentially ignorance, few people are so low as to be premeditatedly prejudiced.

I hardly leave the house but I still have thought about how if there was an emergency what I would need to because if no one is around to help, help is prob not coming 😐I know not everyone can do that, but if they can they should.
The adaptive clothing thing is wonderful. I know the pieces are more bland colours so anyone can wear them, but give me some colours!

I don't think I am allowed on any airline. No, I am not any bad guy. I have pulmonary fibrosis Not only can I not walk I can't breathe also. When I leave the house, thanks to my insurance's refusal to let me have portable consenters. I have to carry Oxygen tanks and a lot of them. I have been told that I can not board a plane with them. so unless I can go by car. I can't go. I used to love to travel. life kind of sucks now
