I bought Spirit in the US on the East Coast and have now sailed her to Australia via the Pacific. The Solar Panels were very simple to install. Just some wires and solar regulator and away you go ;-) the two of them 120w per panel run the whole boat.
What a beautiful video. A huge contrast so many others. I'm sure you did allot of editing but it was done beautifully. It seemed 3 very compatible guys having a great time. Your choice of music was impeccable. Surely a pleasure to watch. I'd love to see more.
Thanks Jason,It's always nice to hear positive stories for change. I look forward to your uploads when you get a chance to do them. In the meantime I will check out your youtube channel. Thanks again mate.
Actually the two 120w panels run the whole boat, fridge, stereo, vhf, LED lighting and inverter. We have a Katadyn water maker onboard but for this we need to run the engine as it's draws about 16-18 amps at 12v. It makes 25lts of water an hour and over the last two years has proven to be excellent. We will be putting on two more flexible panels next month so we wont need to run the engine to make water.
Hi Jason,I enjoyed your vid. Did you also do vids of the rest of your journey from the US to Fiji ? I am working towards getting a catamaran and living aboard. I have recently starting considering tris as well. Thanks for a bit of practical insight.By the way, nice fish, you really did need a gaff lol
Hi OziYacht glad you enjoyed the Video. We have had a great time sailing so far. There is a lot of other videos on my youtube channel. I have two more that we did one from Newport RI to the Caribbean and one from Antigua to Tahiti that I will upload as soon as I have good internet. Cheers
It looks a little small. I would bet that it's just the radar detector and the display for that looks about the size of a deck of cards. As well, I don't thing there's enough solar on that boat to support a stand alone radar.
that black sailing yacht at 00:13 looks like you have got to have allot of dosh (money) to own and tht fish you caught but got away looks like id have a good feast on but hey least you got proof of the catching it
There is a lot of info on the blog so please read that it's easier than writing every time someone asks.... sorry. Anyway just quickly she's an old formula 40 trimaran named Spirit. She weighs in at just under 4 ton and has a 35ft beam. Her mast is 18mts off the deck and she has a few hundred square meters of sail area with the light air sails up. She easily does apparent wind speed and more with the extra ton of cruising weight we carry. So far she's proven to be an excellent machine to sail and live on and she proves fast in light airs and she sails everywhere we never motor. With the centreboard down she draws 9ft of water and with it up 5ft as the rudder is very long and thin. We carry around 20lts of fuel for emergencies when cruising and have done 300nm days sailing. She was designed in the late 80's and built and launched in the early nineties. Her racing name in Europe was Spirit of England.
Tim & Perina White great advice for a boat that carries a gaff 😊👍 obviously we weren’t there to fish and were happy he got away as he was a beautiful fish.

Where do you get a trimaran like this? Was it easy to install the solar panels?

Sorry I’m not sure I understand your question well??
Clic , Fizz , 10kts in 8 kts of wind , 28 deg. cold beer = Perfect (& No TV )
Yeah it doesn’t get much better than that and we had four days of it! ;-)
Just love that you are eating out of dog bowls.. LOL funny!!
Is the Auto pilot a piece of line?
michael d no it's a linear ram that connects to the tiller at the deck.

Experienced sailor! No fancy dinner plates. Just small and medium stainless doggie bowls!
It took us 6 days to sail from Fiji to Australia.

Yeah that black boat also makes Spirit look pretty small ;-)
