Got him early on JP and he's simply so busted that he shouldn't be treated as an defensive servant, he's just as capable to be used offensively. Just to make sure the opponent doesn't have Invincibility Pierce and you should be supplying enough stars for him. Also, Jun Fukuyama's voice is just as majestic as ever, like a certain masked guy. That's more than enough to roll for him. Oh, but when you fight him in LB3 he'll probably destroy you. Even if you bring Avengers.

Best Combo with Shi is (in my humble Oppinion): Waver and Tamamo All Three can stall the Enemy, Tamamo provides healing, Shi protects them, Waver gives NP and Buffs to the Team, Tamamo shortens the Cooldowns, ... In short, it's very good. It's so good in Fact i used it against Shi Huang Di in his own bossfight and only lost Waver after knocking down the Last bar, which removes all Buffs from you

I agree with the point about him not being able to generate enough crit stars on his own from having only one quick card. If you're going to use him in a solo context, he definitely needs a 2030 or some star gen buffing command codes. On his own, it's going to be hard for him to crit consistently because the star absorb on his noble phantasm evenly distributes any stars he makes. But if you put him in a team with some good supports (cough cough double Merlin), he's practically unstoppable.
So here is how to get Shi: Roll Jeanne. Clear her np interlude to remove self-stun. Make her stun aoe. Let her NP on demand. Replace her utterly useless second skill with Waver NP. Add a free crit servant. There you go. Since I recently got her, I do wonder, what niche Jeanne is supposed to fill. As I see it, Merlin does everything Jeanne can, but much better, aside from if you really need invincibility every 3rd turn, in which case Jeanne is outclassed by both Shi and Castoria.
Yeah Jeanne really didn't age well. She really needs more buffs to make her worthwhile. Her main claim to fame aside from everything that Merlin and Castoria can do better is that she's tanky, but then Shi Huangdi does that better than she does. I feel like her niche is slowly starting to be eroded. They did recently buff her second skill to give a decent def down, but she needs more than that to save her.
Shi huang di, teamed up with BB, is a legitimately terrifying combination. You can lock either hand type, and the crit stars and their "selfish" self buffs, go surprisingly well, with their few "team" skills (faceless moon and buried scholars respectively). Toss a tamamo or a hans on their team and you get buffs to an insane degree.
@@thefool8224 Goetia has a pretty high hit count on most attacks that will charge NP by at least 20% per attack, disregarding buster one, combine this with Qin's cards and some NP gain CE or something like that it's not really incredible at all.
this is it, the servant i mostly waited this entire year. Friggin Ivan coming out of order costed me 120 quartz but i still have at least 6-7 multis for Shi Huang Di EDIT: fucking got it with 5 tickets and 1 multi. Feels good.
in a way, 2030 is also another CE that is good with him for solos. with the pure hp stat for more survivability and help in getting enough stars to crit since generating stars alone is his problem

Mothman is the top servant to get this year. Easy skill and ascension mats and he can carry you through a lot of hard content practically on his own. If you are a new player, He is the one servant that releases this year that you need to pull. The only Ruler I'd put above him is Himiko (for two very big reasons) and she's 2 years out for NA.
Hello Oni and Drew! Just wanna say that I got this pretty emperor boi at the second day of his rateup. And umm, I had him at my Top 3 targets for 2020 with Waver and Archer Artoria and well, I had Waver rolling for Cu Alter last month, and while rolling for this guy, I got OG Artoria first. Guess I got all I wanted... Call it a flex but I just wanna share anyway. Thanks for the reviews and can't wait for the 2021 content!
The best ruler in the game, at least until Himiko comes out. Would roll for him, but the 4*s on his banner are pretty bad (even after JP buffs), and I wanna save for Beni-Enma / Sign of Smiling Face

@Dmon Blu I disagree with that, Super Orion defs outdeals damage compared to Mothman, but Mothman shuts down enemy turns completely when he NPs unless its aoe, and can still hit like a truck. They have different usages imo, Super Orion is great if you need to kill shit faster, and debuff immunity is great, Mothman meanwhile just shits on longer fights.

Shi huang di is a far better pointman for a comp where also being tanky af is helpful, such as cqs that have insane card damage, and super orion is better when you don't care too much about defence is merlin invul is enough to be all you really need, and damage is more important.
You summarized it perfectly, SoberOni: very, VERY strong, but it can lead to an awkward playstyle, since you often have to choose if using him offensively or defensively. Also, he doesn't generate the stars he needs (unlike others servants with a self buff NP in the future). In addition to that, you'll use him only in challenge and story quests (and even then, often there are better choices than him, depending on your strategies).

I think I've just used up all my luck for the next couple of months. Today was the last day for the banner and I decided to spend 3 tickets to get my tickets down to a multiple of 5. I got the Emperor himself on the third ticket. I've never been so fucking happy rolling in this game before holy shit.
I think you forgot to mention Hans when it came to crit dps supports, since he buffs stargen with his NP, has passive stargen and NP charge per tun with his future buff and also more attack and defense buffs
Defense Debuff (x1.2 damage modifier) and Attack buff (x1.3 damage modifier) don’t add up to 1.5 times, but to 1.56. That means it’s actually 56% more damage from just the first two skills, not 50%. Not that different, but still.
Update: Amassed free total to 300 sq and bought another 150. Nothing. Two days later I get my 1250 days SQ drop. Got him plus Astolfo to NP5. Absolutely legendary pull. No regrets.

It's a separate 70% chance for each enemy so some can resist it while others get hit. Landing it on all 3 enemies at the same time is very unlikely unless you can buff his debuff success rate with Caster Gil
Despite I may or may not get them in NA. I truly feel blessed getting them on JP during the 21M Download Milestone Celebration Campaign they were in. Lots of solos and critical hits for weeks.
Dear gods...I only beat him/them because my Spishtar was the last Servant standing for me and she had to tank two crits to pull it off and use two NPs after I lost my support Jalter to him/them using his/their NP+ double Crit after getting rid of his/their second break bar, 8 turns of pure horror. Buff Removal is easily the best answer to his/their boss fight although if you're confident, you can 3T him/them with Jalter (you need to get her NP to 100% three times in a row which might be a hassle) if she has Invincibility Pierce for a CE and you have good RNG, though that's not likely. Emperor Mothman doesn't hold back, how do Chen Gong and Mordred think that this Chinese Emperor's preferred way of handling human affairs is the way to go? Despite being a Ruler, his boss fight can almost be summed up as 'Want to bring an Avenger to an 'Anti'-Avenger Boss Battle? Be my/our guest.' S Tier for being one of the best playable stalling Servants in FGO (if not the best) and S Tier for being one of the most aggravating boss fights for players to have to fight. Got to admit though, Shi's Interlude really does have them hammer home how PHH really needs to step up their A Game with the stakes for PHH's survival being slim on the line. Chaldea's Mainline Master (aka us) fails a crucial mission or lose to the big bad? Shi's going to take over PHH to ensure that nothing gets worse. For all their faults, Shi lives up to being a Ruler, one who takes action when action is needed and it manifests in his/their skills. Being centered around building up his/their NP gauge quickly, spamming it to get stronger then murdering opposition while protecting his/their people in the process. Oh, story-wise, it's worth noting, Holmes mentions that under very normal circumstances upon noting Shi's humanoid form's aura and power, if he/they were in PHH in their current state (aka not as summoned by Chaldea necessarily), they'd be classified as a GRAND Servant, not just a Ruler causing him to wonder why Shi most likely downgraded his/their status not knowing Shi did it intentionally to prove some of his/their points. Meaning Shi could have made it in as a Grand Ruler given his/their reputation and power. Lostbelt Shi showed mercy on us if this was true. Facing a Grand Ruler would be a pain to fight and given what Shi can do, ugh. Also, I say he/him/they/them because while their humanoid form looks male, their 'divine frame' is practically a 'robot' aka genderless.

@@thefool8224 Goetia has a pretty high hit count on most attacks that will charge NP by at least 20% per attack, disregarding buster one, combine this with Qin's cards and some NP gain CE or something like that it's not really incredible at all.

in a way, 2030 is also another CE that is good with him for solos. with the pure hp stat for more survivability and help in getting enough stars to crit since generating stars alone is his problem

Mothman is the top servant to get this year. Easy skill and ascension mats and he can carry you through a lot of hard content practically on his own.
If you are a new player, He is the one servant that releases this year that you need to pull. The only Ruler I'd put above him is Himiko (for two very big reasons) and she's 2 years out for NA.

And umm, I had him at my Top 3 targets for 2020 with Waver and Archer Artoria and well, I had Waver rolling for Cu Alter last month, and while rolling for this guy, I got OG Artoria first. Guess I got all I wanted...

The best ruler in the game, at least until Himiko comes out. Would roll for him, but the 4*s on his banner are pretty bad (even after JP buffs), and I wanna save for Beni-Enma / Sign of Smiling Face

@Dmon Blu I disagree with that, Super Orion defs outdeals damage compared to Mothman, but Mothman shuts down enemy turns completely when he NPs unless its aoe, and can still hit like a truck. They have different usages imo, Super Orion is great if you need to kill shit faster, and debuff immunity is great, Mothman meanwhile just shits on longer fights.

Shi huang di is a far better pointman for a comp where also being tanky af is helpful, such as cqs that have insane card damage, and super orion is better when you don't care too much about defence is merlin invul is enough to be all you really need, and damage is more important.
You summarized it perfectly, SoberOni: very, VERY strong, but it can lead to an awkward playstyle, since you often have to choose if using him offensively or defensively. Also, he doesn't generate the stars he needs (unlike others servants with a self buff NP in the future).
In addition to that, you'll use him only in challenge and story quests (and even then, often there are better choices than him, depending on your strategies).

I think I've just used up all my luck for the next couple of months. Today was the last day for the banner and I decided to spend 3 tickets to get my tickets down to a multiple of 5. I got the Emperor himself on the third ticket. I've never been so fucking happy rolling in this game before holy shit.
I think you forgot to mention Hans when it came to crit dps supports, since he buffs stargen with his NP, has passive stargen and NP charge per tun with his future buff and also more attack and defense buffs
ShiHuangdi + Jeanne + Merlin = brainlessly clearing any challenge quest
Defense Debuff (x1.2 damage modifier) and Attack buff (x1.3 damage modifier) don’t add up to 1.5 times, but to 1.56. That means it’s actually 56% more damage from just the first two skills, not 50%. Not that different, but still.

Update: Amassed free total to 300 sq and bought another 150. Nothing. Two days later I get my 1250 days SQ drop. Got him plus Astolfo to NP5. Absolutely legendary pull. No regrets.

There is that chance, I believe
It's a separate 70% chance for each enemy so some can resist it while others get hit. Landing it on all 3 enemies at the same time is very unlikely unless you can buff his debuff success rate with Caster Gil

Dear gods...I only beat him/them because my Spishtar was the last Servant standing for me and she had to tank two crits to pull it off and use two NPs after I lost my support Jalter to him/them using his/their NP+ double Crit after getting rid of his/their second break bar, 8 turns of pure horror. Buff Removal is easily the best answer to his/their boss fight although if you're confident, you can 3T him/them with Jalter (you need to get her NP to 100% three times in a row which might be a hassle) if she has Invincibility Pierce for a CE and you have good RNG, though that's not likely. Emperor Mothman doesn't hold back, how do Chen Gong and Mordred think that this Chinese Emperor's preferred way of handling human affairs is the way to go? Despite being a Ruler, his boss fight can almost be summed up as 'Want to bring an Avenger to an 'Anti'-Avenger Boss Battle? Be my/our guest.'
S Tier for being one of the best playable stalling Servants in FGO (if not the best) and S Tier for being one of the most aggravating boss fights for players to have to fight. Got to admit though, Shi's Interlude really does have them hammer home how PHH really needs to step up their A Game with the stakes for PHH's survival being slim on the line. Chaldea's Mainline Master (aka us) fails a crucial mission or lose to the big bad? Shi's going to take over PHH to ensure that nothing gets worse. For all their faults, Shi lives up to being a Ruler, one who takes action when action is needed and it manifests in his/their skills. Being centered around building up his/their NP gauge quickly, spamming it to get stronger then murdering opposition while protecting his/their people in the process.
Oh, story-wise, it's worth noting, Holmes mentions that under very normal circumstances upon noting Shi's humanoid form's aura and power, if he/they were in PHH in their current state (aka not as summoned by Chaldea necessarily), they'd be classified as a GRAND Servant, not just a Ruler causing him to wonder why Shi most likely downgraded his/their status not knowing Shi did it intentionally to prove some of his/their points. Meaning Shi could have made it in as a Grand Ruler given his/their reputation and power. Lostbelt Shi showed mercy on us if this was true. Facing a Grand Ruler would be a pain to fight and given what Shi can do, ugh. Also, I say he/him/they/them because while their humanoid form looks male, their 'divine frame' is practically a 'robot' aka genderless.
