There's a similar bridge in Louisville with lanes on both sides that closed to auto traffic in the late 70's when a dump truck partially fell through one of the lanes. It was too heavy and had no business being on it. I got to ride across it when I was a kid in my folks car. Wish they'd re-open it to pedestrian traffic if nothing else but Norfolk Southern doesn't want the liability. In the meantime we do have the old Big Four bridge as a pedestrian bridge.

Get your bikes out and ride over the Mississippi! Hopefully, those of us who walk dogs will be permitted on Big River Crossing.
