Hi!! It’s tough for everyone right now, we’re all in the same boat; I’m from Wisconsin by the way. I’ve been diving into guitar more than ever just to get my mind off things.
Thank you so much for all the work you put into your videos. As a bass player of 16 years I have tried picking up a 6 string many times over the years and very quickly given up trying to learn chords as my hands would never quite get the hang of different chord shapes and would fatigue surprisingly quickly. After my wife and I had our daughter I desperately wanted to learn to play some songs on acoustic that I can sing to her. After finding your channel and seeing the pure joy and excitement you get even playing simple chord progressions I am glad to say I pushed through the initial wall that has blocked me so many times before and am developing my guitar playing at a rapid rate. So thanks again Paul without your videos and passion for the craft I'm sure I wouldn't be where I am now.
I've done that kind of "interacting with yourself" editing in video and live. It's such a satisfying trick, but also takes a bunch more work, so... thank you for investing that time into making an already great lesson even better than it has to be!

One of my absolute favorite little pieces of sound is a regular C to a Csus2/B, played on the 4 lowest strings (I normally tune the low E string down a whole step to make the Csus2/B easier to play). Sounds heavenly on the telecaster with reverb and the tone knob turned 40-50% down.

Music is such a beautiful gift God gave to us. Thank you sir for sharing your gift with us. Don't forget to thank God everyday for the things He has given.
Wow!!!! Thank you for not only the education, but for slowly demonstrating truly beautiful chords and chord progressions. It’s really nice to see a video of actual chords that sound sad/happy and overall beautiful. You sir, are phenomenal!

The acoustic riff sounds like Johnny marr’s Some girls are bigger than others. I wish I learned this during my first years. Never too late. Thanks for teaching us.
I love Cocteau Twins! Trio that layers and cheeses chord. I imagine all 3 instruments/voices create these type of chords. And add the overtones, harmonics and open galactic gates. Bless music
@@Machihekamake You are so right about Johnny Marr and Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others. There is a Smith's bootleg version I think from San Diego'86 where Johnny plays an extended (i believe) intro...it is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard.
I just found "Sugar Coated" on Spotify. Paul, why are none of your TH-cam videos performance vids? The beginning of this video is so pretty that I just want to hear you play that guitar and float off into space. I love your lessons and I am playing and practicing again after many years off. But man, you need to get some more songs out into the world. Keep up the great work and the great channel.
I am the same in regards to feeling every chord! I cant stop closing my eyes. I love to listen my way around the guitar. Sometimes helps. Sometimes its disasterous.
For me even as a metalhead who loves my explorer guitars and v's .. my first guitar ist still the most beautiful guitar for clean sound ... my stratocaster played with the neck pickup is just wonderful imo ♡ Thanks for sharing those chords and riffs.. I definitely try them next time I'm jamming and vibing on my guitar ^^ Well done and cheers! :)
When I hear this playing, I think of something Stanley Jordan said: play a little, then listen... the next part will suggest itself to your mind. Play that, then listen some more
Just figured out this kinda mu major chord that sounds cool with the b and e open. LowE -7 (ring) A-4 (index/pointer) D-7 (pinkie) G-6 (middle) B-0 highE-0
If you take a regular C chord and slide it up 2 frets and add your thumb to 3rd fret of E string it makes a really nice Gmaj7 chord, and you can also add pinky on 5th of high e string for a different sound
This philosophy reminds me of how U2`s Edge plays .. i saw a documentary once where he said that he`ll take a conventional chord shape and "play" with it to make it sound kinda different and new ..cheers anyways great vid !
Wonderful wonderful sounds you play with the chord structures and progressions. You Mr. Davids and Marco Cirillo are my favourite musicians on TH-cam to watch and learn acoustic guitar. I also love those sweet resonant sounds that give one delight, and a sweet spot of experience through music. I'm presently watching and learning the chords from your TH-cam video here. Fun experiences and very good for one's being and others hearing the music.
Paul, you are the maestro and more importantly the muse. Your video channel has done more to elevate my playing more than anyone else on YT or live teachers that I have had. One possible equal is Justin Guitar, whom I generally view to sharpen my basics or step into a new style, like finger picking. That said, I don't always follow exactly what he teaches, but with your lessons and demos I always come away with something, even if it is just a new found appreciation for how beautiful and meaningful music can be. Thank you for the lovely chord shapes and examples of how to make them shine. PS; I was trying my hardest to NOT buy a classical Nylon string, but all hope for that happening is now gone!
This is definitely the best video I ever seen in my whole life about chords, you are the master of matching sounds together, your taste is perfect, the best sound expert
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I always enjoy your lessons, jokes and your wonderful accent. But when you reveal such a beautiful things it touches strings of my heart and I regret TH-cam does not have button 10 or even 100 likes :) Thank you one more time!
When you saw yourself weep and tried to console yourself with a sincere "Stay strong man" is the moment I began to weep... Wish we all loved ourselves as much.
I think that chords are just giving a emotion to you. Theory is hard to explain why we should use them. Let we study what chords can attract us. (Don't mind the chord name...
i feel so happy today, for the first time you bringing up music theory in your videos and i am understanding it...thanks to your music theory episodes...

There are lots and lots of “generalisable” shapes on the guitar,
So long as you know what note is the root note of the 3 you’re playing,
And you know your intervals,
You can know what chord you’re playing and not just by ear,
Having a sense of major and minor, Sus, dim, and aug chords shapes and which ones I can generalise to other parts of the neck really helped.
So like knowing that you can generalise a shape all the way along the neck,
Knowing it will produce the same chord type all away along the neck,
But the only thing that changes is the notes under your fingers,
Making it a different chord,
But because your fingers haven’t changed shape,
The intervals that make up the chord are still the same, just the notes that make up the chord is different,
I do that all the time as well, I barely know any theory
impossible the scale is mapped you cannot invent chords that already exist
@The Divine Djin I think that’s what he meant
@The Divine Djin Absolutely, that's why I wrote "inventing" instead of inventing ;-)

YES! Congratulations, you just played “love is on the way”, by Saigon Kick. (Circa 1990 I think). Yes, I’ve always loved that chord progression!!!
This autoplayed and that intro caught me by surprise. Damn, that was beautiful.
For me even as a metalhead who loves my explorer guitars and v's .. my first guitar ist still the most beautiful guitar for clean sound ...
my stratocaster played with the neck pickup is just wonderful imo ♡
Thanks for sharing those chords and riffs.. I definitely try them next time I'm jamming and vibing on my guitar ^^
Well done and cheers! :)
When I hear this playing, I think of something Stanley Jordan said: play a little, then listen... the next part will suggest itself to your mind. Play that, then listen some more
Thanks, I like that. Shall do.
👍👍
Just figured out this kinda mu major chord that sounds cool with the b and e open.
LowE -7 (ring)
A-4 (index/pointer)
D-7 (pinkie)
G-6 (middle)
B-0
highE-0
From 5 min to 7 min 30 secs..my god..that is just magical Paul..thankyou fellas..gonna learn that today
Sounds so beautiful. I just want to shred emotional notes that make my guitar cry!!
Chordal playing is an extremely fundamental way to learn so many things about the guitar and neck. It's really pivotal to learn satisfying chords!
Thanks!
The was the type of video I’ve been looking for! Thank you! 🙏🙏🙏🙏
I love how much he loves the chords.
When he said *EMOTION* I felt that.
The second set of chords I will be practicing and I will always give you full credits for showing me this beautiful use of them
I learnt a valuable lesson last night! DON'T listen to Paul playing beautiful chords before bed.......i couldn't get the tune out of my head 😂😂
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I always enjoy your lessons, jokes and your wonderful accent. But when you reveal such a beautiful things it touches strings of my heart and I regret TH-cam does not have button 10 or even 100 likes :) Thank you one more time!
I just arrive to this channel and with this first video I felt in love the quite that gives me listenning this amazing chords, new suscriptor
Literally typed in "beautiful chords" in the search bar 5 minutes before the upload!
Music is for sharing, MAD RESPECT!!!!!!
i have never seen someone obsess over beautiful chords like me…SOMEONE GETS IT🤩❤️🥰
When you saw yourself weep and tried to console yourself with a sincere "Stay strong man" is the moment I began to weep...
Wish we all loved ourselves as much.
I think that chords are just giving a emotion to you.
Theory is hard to explain why we should use them.
Let we study what chords can attract us.
(Don't mind the chord name...
Downright righteous chords. The open notes give it a very soft but melodic sustain.
Дядька ты лучший) Как раз таких аккордов мне не хватало))) Настроение очень поднял.
Now I've heard there was a secret chord that David played ...
Yes
that Davids played and please the followers like me
But u don't really care for music....
Do you?
@@sweetlife343 well it goes like this ........
@@markjamor5637 the fourth the fifth... THE MINOR FALL, THE MAYOR LIFT
Look wise , as well as sound wise , the classical guitar is just magnificent
AAAA I CANT WAIT TO LEARN
Edit: also I love your stuff Paul lmao hi
Finally... An ASMR for the guitar community
i feel so happy today, for the first time you bringing up music theory in your videos and i am understanding it...thanks to your music theory episodes...
U just played Bullet for my Valentine's "A Place where you belong" Intro in that second chord shape mate :D
Kinda sounded a bit like “Love is on the way” by Saigon Kick which is actually a lovely melancholic tune. Great progression!
This video is not just a musical, but a cinematographical masterpiece.
Paul crying - Paul saying to Paul "stay strong man" 😂😂 killed me
Paul you seem a nice guy, but especially your feeling for the chords make me want to sub to your channel. Thanks my friend.
Hugs from Toledo, Spain
Today you put a smile on my face realizing you are very creative with you twin who adds to your to your Charisma
Chords are awesome and I really appreciate your creativity of video making..it's different .👍👍
