- My son is short and can't reach the sink. I fixed this problem with another project. A simple step stool from basic framing lumber. This is a great project if you want to get into building things. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy.

1- 2x6 - 8ft
Pocket hole jig (20 screws)
wood glue
stain

Cut List:
2- 16" treads
2- 4.5" front riser
2- 10" rear riser
1 - 11.5" back support (ripped in half, or use 2x3)

I have a computer in my workshop with a shelf over the top of it holding my printer and I need this step stool so I can access the buttons on the top panel of the printer.
I'm not that short but it's certainly easier when you can actually see what buttons you're pushing.
Love what I learned from using different clamps with Kreg jigs etc. Great instructions!

Great idea. I really like your finish techniques. I wanted to scale this up a little bit longer and higher for a platform bed. Also! Im not gonna use the pocket holes on the treads so that they dont show while looking at it. I think i will just countersink screws and then plug them. Thanks for the inspiration fella!

Oh! I might be able to do this. I need to build some steps for my dog, but I've got a really small car. I think I could transport 2×6 boards in it though! I'll have to add more steps though, and preferably wider... Hm. Darn it XD anyway, thanks for the video!

i Made a ramp with some carpet for our dog. He had a disc removed and it works great, less stress with sudden jolts. used 3 1x6" 33" long and jigged them together, Cut corner to corner, that gave me my 2 sides, used 2 1x6", 37" long for the ramp. glued and jigged them together. Mounted to the sides, put some carpet and trim on it and stained. I have 3 of them in the house, they (we have 2 dogs) use them every time.

you can use a longer bit for the pocket hole that you had difficulty reaching or you could flip the bench over and the support piece would not be in your way. i always use the longer bit, unless the area is tight...nice job...

Thank you. Sometimes I hate how people make things seem like they went flawlessly. I noticed because the leg was wider than the tread, so I knew it would have to pulled back in.

On the stepstool diy drill all the pocket holes before starting to put it together. I put the 2 pieces together and the 4 1/2 piece would not fit in my kreg pocket hole jig.

+Pengfei Song sure thing. The wood I used is kiln dried Douglas Fir. I stained it using Minwax Espresso. Hope that helps.

will the cuts/measurements still work if the piece of wood I'm using is 2x 5 1/2?
Yes, both treads are made of the same piece. And both support/stringers I guess you could call them are the same with just butted together. 2x6s that I used are actually inch and a half by 5 and 1/2.

i'm making this right now and i appreciate this video! One question, when making your pocket holes, i noticed you had some taped distance. How did you calculate this?
my jig came with a stopper. I'm new to pocket holes so i just wanted to know.
I bought the basic pocket hole jig. So the reason there's tape is to make sure that the setback is right. it was a calculation I made through trial and error but basically you want the tip of the pocket holes drill to poke through the wood in the center. The basic pocket hole jig is designed for three-quarter. So since this was inch and a half I added another 3/4 using 3/4 tape to make sure that the offset would put the screw at the center of the board. Then you just need to adjust the collar on the drill to make sure it doesn't drill too deep
How long did this take you?
Not including paint dry time, probably less than an hour.

yes, when your pet suddenly doesn't sleep on your bed anymore, it may not be his preference, but difficulty getting up there. I found that out.
i need a stepstool for my 94 years old mom (she's very active lot's of energy pray to jesus every morning for 45 min. To an hour )i don't know anything about wood working but you explain very good ,how far do from the edge do i place the pocktholes (you have a blue tape then you clamped it )is it 1 inch ?(my mom wants to help me make it -mmaybe she don't need me)thank you god bless you and your family.
+Joe Guzman the tape I used is 3/4 wide. I have found this is my preferred distance for screwing 1 1/2 stock (the actual size of 2x4). This will put the screw extiting somewhere near the center of your stock. If you setup is right you can use up to a 2 1/2 screw for attacking 2 pieces (the same size). You need to start doing some math when I'd comes to attaching different size pieces. If you have any other questions please let me know. Thanks for the support and good luck.

What size screws do you used for the pocket holes?
+Joe Guzman the basic jig I designed to attach 3/4 stock with 1 1/4 screws. I used 2 inch screws.

How Long did you cut the treads.?
I cut my treads to 16 inches. It seems to be a very nice size. Still using it to this day.

Noob here....why you want to make wood look old? What is purpose of aging? Staining it should prevent it from weather right?
