今回は全世界を舞台に繰り広げる3D視点で展開される公道レースゲーム。コースは全部で30あり、プレイヤーはそれぞれ特徴のある8台の車の中から選択しゴールを目指す。前作「ターボアウトラン」では廃止されたコース分岐が復活し、各国に合わせ背景もさまざま変化する。また、プレイ中いつでも好きなときにBGMを変更することが出来るようになっている。最大8人までの同時対戦も可能。

Between 1 and 8 players (the latter requiring the use of link-up cabinets) compete in this colourful update of the 1986 classic, "Out Run". Out Runners features the multiple routes of the original but this time includes a large number of selectable vehicles; each of which poses different strengths and weaknesses, such as higher speed or better handling. Out Runners captures of the spirit of Out Run adding characters, humour, numerous selectable soundtracks (including a radio broadcast of the race by Jake Elwood) and a seamless driving experience barely interrupted by crashes.

Even if titlescreen says 1992, OutRunners was released in May 1993 in Japan.
The name of the DJ (Jake Elwood) is a combination of the names of the main characters (Joliet 'Jake' and 'Elwood' Blues) in the 1980 film 'The Blues Brothers'.
"Magical Sound Shower", "Passing Breeze" and "Splash Wave" are the original Out Run soundtracks that can also be found in 'Out Runners' - albeit in 'enhanced' form. Out runner's creators, The AM2 group (led by Yu Suzuki) also created these other famous Sega games :

Toshiba EMI released a limited-edition soundtrack album for this game (Virtua Racing & Out Runners - TYCY-5365) on 15/12/1993.

I just realized recently that this car has 2 gears to mimic the car from the original game.
The car you drive in the original OutRun is the Ferrari Testarossa.

Ferrari 512tr roadster, this is my favorite car, got to get ready for world rally.
This is one of these games that are fun to play if you get enough experience to play decently from start to end.
Otherwise is a quarter muncher for beginners and tryhards, as it was meant to be...
Just like the outrun games are meant to be, pure arcade!
Hope this game gets a Sega Ages release on Switch. It deserves a proper port to home consoles, as that Genesis version is a poor excuse

Proper port? More like an encapsulated emulation.
The Ferrari in this game is absurdly fast. 295mph?? In comparison, the LaFerrari can only reach 245mph.
I know, this is the US version. The EU/JP version ones top 293km/h or 182mph.
295 mph = 475 km/h
245 mph = 395 km/h
It seems that they added some more improvements to the engine to make it fast
