I think the approach of producing less songs that establishes the group's identity is a pretty good strat, since it's taking a whole lot of audience in consideration, hence the mass appeal BP has. It's not ridiculous, for me at least, for them to release just a single and EPs for the past 4 years, I believe there's power with the less is more approach they're taking. Just look at where are they at now, I'm genuinely really happy for them.

First of all I have never clicked so fast! You Never Know is the hidden gem of this album. I saw an insta live that Bekuh Boom (the songwriter) did and she talked about her struggles in the industry as a songwriter and an artist. I feel like you can really hear her story through the song. And yes the song translates really well for BP as idols. I cried the first time I heard the song. It’s beautifully written and delivered.

You Never Know (love the lyrics) 5. Bet You Wanna *these 5 are literally my favorite songs. They’re on repeat* 6. Lovesick Girls (it’s a good song honestly, just not my type of music) 7. How You Like That (got boring real quick for me. Kind of has the same structure as some of their other songs) 8. Ice Cream (I don’t like this song at all, no offense) So overall, I love the album. I think it’s one where Blackpink finally found the sound they want. And YG, continue to let Blackpink be involved in the writing process of their songs. You see how much better they are? I didn’t expect to have mostly English songs and it’s kind of obvious this album was targeted for the international market but I don’t have a problem with it. I think people forget that Japan is one the biggest musical markets on the globe, and no one ever talks about how artists from the U.S. or the U.K. try to break into it. Record labels will make deluxe albums (essentially Japan gets an extra song that you can’t find anywhere else in the world) simply to break into it. Artists like Halsey, Ariana, Vampire Weekend, Kesha, Gaga, Santana, Mariah Carey, etc. used this tactic, and it’s something that flys under the radar. I’m glad you touched on western validation here. I think people forget that Japan is one the biggest musical markets on the globe, and no one ever talks about how artists from the U.S. or the U.K. try to break into it. Record labels will make deluxe albums (essentially Japan gets an extra song that you can’t find anywhere else in the world) simply to break into it. Artists like Halsey, Ariana, Vampire Weekend, Kesha, Gaga, Santana, Mariah Carey, etc. used this tactic, and it’s something that flys under the radar. I’m not trying to clown either side; it’s only something to think about.

I just started getting into Blackpink in Dec. 2021 because I had already listened to the Lisa solo singles. At that time, I was going through hardships in my life that really, really got me down. When I got to sit down and read the lyrics to “You Never Know,” I cried.
Their songs helped me to overcome my battles in life. Itʻs not just female power. Itʻs HUMAN POWER. Life is still tough but I know I can overcome.
