    We are back in the dump for a NEW adventure! Its the first time in nearly a year that we have made it along here and we are so glad we did!
    We thought we'd come looking for Victorian era Jam Jars - they really are beautiful things - but we found so much more! A LOT of bottle digging has taken place since we were last here and there is so much to search through! Its a great day for marbles, glass stoppers and a host of odd and wonderful fancy finds... what is the best of the day? We are not sure, but think this old crucible is a very special and RARE find - this dish is an 'assaying crucible' and it was made to be used to determine the value of precious metal in mined ore.
    A great deal of mining has taken place in this part of Scotland - in fact, Craig's grandfather worked in the mines here! We're left wondering how this tool was used here - was it used to assay precious metals like gold, silver or platinum? We may have to do some digging to find out! This Battersea Works #3 dish is often associated with gold mining, but we cannot be sure it was used for that purpose here... well, not yet! So we'll have to come back to this in a later video...
    For now! Sit back, relax and enjoy an fantastic journey through the historical insights we can get from the things that were left behind by history!
    We hope you enjoyed today's video... Thank you so much!

      Thanks so much Sissi! We were so happy to be back at this bottledump and to see a couple of the tiny jam jars too :) You could put brushes in them, tiny succulents etc etc ... I've got a larger one on my desk with pens in it ( and so does Craig actually! ) ...

    So many good finds and so interesting to have the information about the Eagle Pottery. I remember you finding that bit in the Dreel Burn and I have also found two bits with that same motif on the same beach. The two women look to me like fishwives and the head with the hat reminds me of a Highlander’s Tam o Shanter

    • @scottishmudlarking
      @scottishmudlarking  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much Christine! Yes, they might be fishwives - they have become a lovely pair of earrings now actually, forever united in a new life! Hmm maybe it's a thinker like David Hulme or a poet or philosopher... ?

    I’m actually glad that at least one of the bottle diggers’ holes was filled in, because it’s not really nice to leave such a pockmarked landscape. I realise it’s a good way of finding treasure though….love your videos!

    • @scottishmudlarking
      @scottishmudlarking  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much Irma! It's certainly not a landscape for walking - you have to be super careful with even just 1ft deep holes when the nettles have grown over because you can't see them....

    Its a glass out of a coach lamp. My grandfather used to mend them and I have two of the glasses, an oval and a rectangle.

    This lark was so much fun as usual! I ordered and received a codd marble necklace from your Etsy store! It is amazing. ❤ It is much heavier than I expected. Now I know why Nicole wears hers on a long chain. It is exceptional and I am so happy to have such a cool piece if history!!! Thank you so much!!❤🇺🇸

      Thanks so much Tracy! So happy to hear you love the marble necklace :) I tend to wear an 18" chain with mine but I have a gecko marble pendant that I wear a 22" chain but it's really thick! Have a lovely weekend

    You saying the gold crucible but snookered what to say for once - productive, what you found is for the workshop. Something for Craig to make with the Codds! Fussy pants - LOL !

    "Now et's nawt a hawwl buttle" would be another for the t shirt designs 😂 I like the mini jam jars! (Anything stoneware really). That glass tile might be the glass from a clock front?

    * The Diggers are killing the Trees. They tried to Save the Trees by Refilling the Holes.. It can't be worth Killing the trees just for bottles & Pieces of broken pottery, bottles & Pipe pieces..

    • @helenbartoszek243
      @helenbartoszek243 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nicole and Craig don't dig holes. They go to places that have already been dug or beaches. You should direct your comments to the ones who do the digging. I do get your point though and it never occurred to me until I read your comment. There is a couple (I forget their TH-cam channel name) who dig and after fill the hole in but you reckon that probably isn't good enough. Which I can understand as the soil would not be compacted enough to support a root system. I guess the best mudlarkers are the ones who scrape the surface.

    • @scottishmudlarking
      @scottishmudlarking  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The trees do suffer that's for sure - I haven't seen many fallen trees in bottledumps though, they tend to recover once the digging is over and nature takes back what's hers... you can see this place was just soil last year and this year everything is covered with nettles and plants again :)

    • @scottishmudlarking
      @scottishmudlarking  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Helen! We don't dig you are right - we take what's on the surface and when I scrape , I scrape the soil back into the hole as much as possible... :)
