Thanks for sharing Nick. I really love your videos ... there's nothing like getting out of the Toronto bustle and into your canoe for some nature getaway time. :)
Hey thanks very much Thorn. Yeah plans didn't quite go as planned, but I still got a couple nice nights camping while hiking in. Summer is flying by so fast... appreciate you taking the time. Take care.
Haha, yeah I tried to take it slow... definitely not the trip I had planned for. I may have another go at it during lower flows. It is a pretty valley, and was nice to get a trip in there. Thanks very much, I appreciate the comment. Take care.
Thanks very much John. Yeah it is a slower river than some, I think it would be more exciting at lower flows. Hope you are doing good too, take care my friend. Nick
Hey thanks Perry. Yeah it's been a tough couple of years to be able to get trips in. Old Blue is hanging in there, pushing for 600000 kms now :). Hope you have been doing well, take care.
@@nickharland3795 those old chevys hang in. My 2003 had 475,000 when I replaced it. It was still running great but I needed a newer truck to pull my equipment around.
Sucks you didn't make it as far as you hoped, but tough to complain with views in the Howse valley. Glad to see you're out in the boat again Nick! Hopefully we can meet up some time this summer, miss the banter with ya!
Yes, it is an awesome valley, great views in every direction. We definitely have to get together for a hike this summer, lots of catching up to do. We'll be in touch for sure. Hope all is well with the family, take care Matty.
Hey Bo, yeah it has been way too long. We definitely need to get away for a hike, and catch up by a nice campfire. I'm good, hope you are too. Take care man, we'll be in touch.
Hey thanks very much Udo. Yeah, it has been very hot here lately, and the mountain rivers are running full. On a side note... In a recent video you mentioned Roy in tribute. Is everything OK with our Florida friend? Thanks Udo.
As it seems, Roy has passed away. The video with the poem was his last. Kayak 7 seas reported this, and other you tubers confirmed. I was in email contact with him, an even face timed once, have not been able to get a response after the reports of his demise. We did bring him joy.
Hey thanks Jamie. I'm good, just haven't had much free time lately. Life has gotten busy in the last couple years. Hope you are doing well too, and getting lots of canoeing and hiking in. Take care man.
Hello Miller. Yeah things are good here, just haven't done as many trips as I would like so far this summer. Hopefully more in August and September. Hope all is well with you too!! Take care up there.
After watching your video of the Wildhay we tackled it 2 weeks ago! Watching helped us so much, thank you! We also have the clipper prospector in duraflex. How has yours held up over the years?
That's great to hear, it is an exciting little river for sure. I love my prospector, couldn't be happier with it. It has held up great over the last 6 years. It took a fair bit of abuse getting to the put-in for this trip... but held up beautifully. Thanks for watching, take care.
I love your videos and I am jealous !!! I am considering planning a trip in Jasper beginning of August and I want to rent a canoe to do a 2 to 4 hours canoeing trip down the athabasca river. I will bring my girlfriend and she wants something relax (class 1 and maybe some rare class 2 occurrences). Is there any cie/contact that you would know that would offer a canoe rental, bringing the canoe to the starting spot and pick up at the end of the trip ? Since I do not know the Athabasca river, I would need directions on where to start / finish to only get the Class 1 rapids. Your comments would be greatly appreciated !!!!
Hi Frank. I would suggest canoeing the section from Old Fort Point to the Hwy 16 bridge. It is 22 km, and has no rapids. I did it last summer... it should only take you a few hours. I think there are some canoe rental options in Jasper, would just have to search a bit. I am not sure about a canoe drop off or pick up, maybe the rental company could help you. If not, you could try the rafting companies. Hope that helps a bit, enjoy your trip!!
@@nickharland3795 Thank you Nick !! I looked at your video from that segment and it does indeed seems like a quiet trip almost as if you're on a lake in some places !!! Would you have a second recommendation that would have a slightly more dynamic trip in terms of current and a few R1 ? Regarding a place for rental in Jasper, I have contacted a few places since writing you my message and I have found one place that is offering drop/pick-up option so I will check with them. thank you again for your help !!!!
Old Fort Point down is pretty mellow for sure. From there to Hwy 16 is not too bad though, some good current. From hwy 16 bridge, all the way down to Hinton I found the river to be very slow. Downstream of Hinton the current picks up again. It is a river of stark contrasts. The section directly above Old Fort Point involves serious class II with a bit of class III. Starting upstream of Old Fort Point would definitely add excitement, but involves some good sized wave trains.
Another great video!!! Thanks again for sharing your passion and adventures!
Thanks again Phil. Hey it's my pleasure. There aren't many things that I enjoy more than canoeing! Take care man.
Nicely Done Nick. Glad yo'ur out and about again. Hoping for more to come.
Thanks very much Darrell. Yeah it has been a slow start as far as canoeing goes. I hope I can get out more in the next few months.
Hay Hay Nick ! Great Seeing A Post From Ya Brother ! Love Them Views As Always ! ATB T God Bless

Good to see you out there again Nick, that surely is a cold river what with all that glacier silt.
Thanks very much. Yeah it was cold water, there are a couple glaciers feeding this river.

I think I'd have taken 5-6 hours, just drinking in those views. Great to see you back, safe and well.

After a long time !! Was waiting for one of your videos.
Thank you very much. Yeah sorry, I haven't been able to get out very much so far this summer. I appreciate you taking the time.

Looks like the recent heat wave did a number on the mountain snow pack and raised the water levels. Paddle safe!
Yeah, all the mountain rivers were flowing high. They should ease up a bit in the second half of July. Thanks for watching, take care.
Great to see you back in action again Nick ! A lot of power in that river. Thanks for sharing my friend.
