Aye. I could be "singing" this and it would still make me weep.. instead of laughing my arse off, which would be the objectively correct response. It doesn't really matter who's signing, it's about the emotional charge to the song itself.
I was there live listening to this. It was a combination of magical and mythical Finland. Although I'm finnish I had a close connection to Finland there listening that live. Her singing sounded so haunting and magical at the same time. Can't even explain it by words.❤
And she is in a band cald PMMP. They have multiple good songs. My top three are Lautturi, Rusketusraidat and Pikkuveli. Although Pikkuveli isn't their original song but they've made a cover of it and it became more popular than the original. The original Pikkuveli song was made by Noitalinna huraa! band. It's also worth listening🤘🏼
The lyrics make it even more meaningful! It translates to something like this: “O, Finland, look, your day is dawning, The threat of night has been driven away. And the morning lark sings in glory, As though heaven's vault itself was ringing. Morning lights brightness is already concurring the tyranny of the night. Your day is dawning, O land of my birth. O, rise, Finland, and raise up high Your head is crowned by grand memories. O, rise, Finland, you showed the world. That you have banished slavery, And that you didn’t yield to oppression. Your morning has dawned, O land of my birth.” 🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮
This is very beutiful version of yhis song. If you want to hear it sung by a male voice(s)., I recommend either Jarkko Ahola and accordion player Netta Skog or Jarkko Ahola and Waltteri Torika's version of this hymn. Waltteri is classical baritone and Jarkko is rock/heavy tenor.
@@spectrumoftheseas6768 As a Finn, I am in the lucky position that I have been able to see and hear it performed live by these gentlemen a couple of times.
That was nothing. At all. The first ever, legendary FIRST ever World Championship 1995 in Stockholm... Sweden-Finland... A very beautiful performance - with style! (The hockey boys sure were not.) But hockey and sports in general are of great entertainment and hopely get people to move, train, exersice. I though hate to see the drunken or hang over athletes and fans climbing on statues... The million dollar professionals should know better.
@@johnsmith_1942 A short excerpt of it with the wrong instrumentation. Finlandia is an 8+ minute piece for a full symphony orchestra, not a short piano sing-along.
Hmm... No it really isn't, as you know so well. Our national anthem still is Vårt Land - Maamme, which, to be honest, is better as an anthem because it is much easier to sing.
This music should never be used as a song for drunk hockey fans. It tells the story of Finland's struggle for independence and the sacrifices made for it. Here is a better version with lyrics that truly convey what this music means to Finns: th-cam.com/video/9PBGPdYAG0c/w-d-xo.html
He has reacted to those already, that and the Finlandia-talo opening ceremony. And I think it should be our national anthem and I think this was as good situation as any. We can have differing opinions about this. It means different things to every person here, although I don't think it's so "holy" in it's struggle aspect that it shouldn't be sang in joyous moments like this. This is what it should be, bringing us together in times good and bad.

I didn't remember this performance but now hearing it, it got me in tears. Thank you!

YES! Definitely the version from Waltteri Torikka and Jarkko Ahola performing this song! To me this is the best sung version of this song, ever!

Paula is stunning
And lyrics are awesome too
Fun im in the video 😅
Paula is like the fairy of dreams
Shalom. ❤
I think that girl can sing.
Sibelius did not like the idea of someone making lyrics to this melody...Lyrics are ultranationalistic, but nice...
Sibelius gave his permission.
@anneliseppanen9105 but did not like it.
I'll allow that under the circumstances - being faced with an existential threat

I like Paula's version of this. But here is one a bit different from a Finnish police officer: th-cam.com/video/RW0bfpgsyXU/w-d-xo.html
This is our national anthem... Or one of those. Called Finlandia ,sang in Finnish.

You could react her song Tequila - Vesala.
2011 was better
This is nothing compared to Sakari Kuosmanen’s version of ”Finlandia Hymni”

Ilon hetkellä on aina hyvä muistaa pahoittaa mielensä ja loukkaantua. Mikä muu tilanne voisi olla parempi tälle kappaleelle kuin Suomen voiton hetki?

Thats so far away from good. Finlandia must be performed like Petrus performs it.
